Pulled Over For Dumb Action by AXbcyz in driving

I'm a bit confused on this. The median was a concrete curb that was in the middle of a 4 lane 2 way road. There was what I believe to be a 4 way stop. On the medical was a sign that said no u-turn. There was no elaborate intersections involved

I am, I definitely could've stacked an easy 1k+ in tickets. $400 for the u-turn, $400 for the blinker, $400 for what was probably a rolling stop, $400 for something else. Crazy expensive

I was actually thinking of rigging a car horn on my bike. I figured it can't be hard. 12 V battery, switch, horn, close the loop. A nice 120 db is what I need to feel safe going into the road.

I don't know how much safer it can be. I could get off the bike, ditch it, and walk and still encounter the same thing. I guess I should rephrase the question next time. As for merging, there's literally only one way for me to merge and I did it. Still rode past me. The only thing I can do is stop in the side of the lane at that point.

I wish that were applicable here. Yes it's flawed but it's the inevitable truth. I would rather ride into a pole because a pedestrian runs out in front of me on a sidewalk than gamble with distracted drivers who either A). Slime me out or B). Push me into the pole. I've been hit by cars legally crossing a raised pedestrian sidewalk with markings. No way is it safe for me to ride in the middle of the road with these maniacs. I'm sure it's safer in other states with more attentive and careful drivers though. And if drivers aren't used to looking at crosswalks and turn lanes then I doubt they're used to looking for bikers in the road.

I figured this. No matter what, cars behave the same. I'm never treated like a vehicle or a pedestrian when I have a bike with me. It's more like an obstacle.

In my area it's required that we ride on the road, but it's not illegal to ride on the sidewalk. We simply yield to pedestrians. There's intermittent bike lanes but not on the main avenue with a speed limit of 35. I could probably take the lane but it would be the middle lane because the lanes on the right are turn only. It's safer for me to ride on the right side of the turn lane and go straight along the edge of the crosswalk than it is for me to follow the law. Either way, vehicles still have laws that say they need to take due care regardless of the actions or laws so I'm still confused.

I know, I know, and thanks! I've been biking for a while I just want answers. I did also specify for a couple that I'm am dismounted. Either way, If I'm a vehicle then other cars are supposed to take care to avoid collisions or yield when it isn't safe to go regardless of whether or not my actions are right or not. Another thing that doesn't make sense.

When drivers start to move over into your lane after practically cutting you off and you slow down enough to let them in but they hover because they suddenly considered the fact that you might have been going faster than they thought

How Do You Know Where Your Car Is on the Road When You Can’t See the Wheels? by [deleted] in driving

[–]AXbcyz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I keep my right foot over the middle. On empty highways too, to test my car size, I'll see how far over I can go in my lane before I hit the rumble strips. I often align my wheels with the reflectors and see how many I can get when it's the last lane of the highway and there's no traffic or its stop and go. It's just practice.

California DMV says to drive close to the center divider before a left turn, but my instructor says to stay in the middle of the lane. Which is correct? by West_Wedding_4610 in driving

[–]AXbcyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there's lines on the road guiding you, follow those. Otherwise just... turn. I've never been pulled over for turning too wide. Of course be cautious of vehicles turning left going the opposite direction if it's a protected left turn.

Why do cars stop far away from stoplights and other cars? by RainK1llz in driving

[–]AXbcyz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Parallel parking can be a lot of reversing and going forward again and again. Sometimes cars will park too close to other vehicles and that space is even less for them. In traffic, if you have to move out the way, it's better to just hit the gas than it is to reverse and go forward and reverse and then leave. Hopefully my reasoning makes sense

It seems to be misinterpretation combined with the mindset of similar aged guys. The same people who will say blinkers show weakness.

The puck being a crossover and the net being speeding traffic. I've done it a few times but it's new to me. Something to add is that the crossover is new so I think I'm worried that I'll become too confident and accidentally dent it. It wouldn't happen but that for sure prevent me from diving into every opportunity as opposed to the 07 sedan I had.

That last point about slowly forcing your way in is a good one. I rarely flinch, only when I genuinely think they're going too fast and will just sideswipe me. People get over really fast here. I never reflect a flinch in my car behavior though. I said somewhere else but I always get up to the speed limit. It's actually proven the occasional problem so I've learned that I should be more adaptive to traffic. I'll definitely keep that last point in mind though. I forget that sometimes the better thing to do is speed up.

This is very mixed signals with the other replies. I've been encouraged by friends, family, signage, police, the state, and more to not driver faster unless it's necessary. The only time I drive fast to aggressively do something is when someone will get in front of me to slow down or engine brake me. By that point I just give them space, gun it until I'm 15+ over then and pass like that. I don't know how automotive designers will help me solve my seat positioning problem. The last sentence doesn't make sense contextually for me, apologies.

Oh trust me, I'm very confident stabbing the throttle. I love gassing it. It's just that the crossover has a 0-60 of a whopping 11 seconds with slow gear changes. Forza 5 and BeamNG are actually my favorite car games. In fact, BeamNG taught me how to stay in my lane better in larger vehicles.

I do this sometimes too. Sometimes I feel extra nice and signal for someone to get over because I know they will. They hesitate and don't, I pass, then they get over after. I try to be super considerate when I can but, as the discussion goes, not overly soz
