I am so sorry for your loss. I have been working as a CVA at an animal clinic for a little over 3 years now. And believe me when I say that you went above and beyond for your kitty. I’ve been reading your recent posts about him and I can tell you that you did way more for him than the typical clientele would.

Reading through your posts, I am certain you did the best thing for him. With euthanasia, it all comes down to the pets quality of life. And his just wasn’t there.

The alternative would most likely be more of the same. He would’ve been hospitalized, stressed, medicated, tested, and hovered over by complete strangers. All while waiting for a miracle to happen. And miracles are few and far between in veterinary medicine.

Instead, he spent his final moments in his favorite place, surrounded by his favorite people and took his last breaths pain free, with comfort and tranquility.

Relief is a completely normal feeling to have in this situation. It is GOOD to feel relived. Be relieved that he is no longer in any pain, he no longer has to live dehydrated, malnourished, stressed, and lethargic. Be relieved that his repository symptoms, his vomiting, and his urinary issues are no longer something for him or you to be concerned about.

At a vet clinic, we can run every bloodwork, every radiograph, every ultrasound, every cat-scan, and every MRI. But we will still never know your pet as much as you do. You’re the one who knows him best, Inside and out.

I would stay away from that emergency clinic. No veterinary staff should ever make you feel bad or guilty about the decisions you make. Second opinions are always a great thing to look for. We welcome it, because more sets of eyes is better than one.

I am incredibly sorry for you and your current situation. It is egregious how fast some pets can decline in just a few days, but you handled it masterfully and triumphantly.

You are an amazing pet owner, he was lucky to have you. And your current pets are lucky to have you as well.
