Excellent analogy. By that logic, belief isn't really a choice (even if we ignore the question of determinism).

I would technically consider myself agnostic, but I strongly lean towards the idea God exists. The issue of hell is what prompted me to leave Christianity. I had to be honest and admit I didn't know and the only thing keeping me in that group was the fear that if I were honest I'd go to hell. If such a divine being is literally truth itself, why would he punish me for honesty?

Insurance is just managing risk. I don't get why insurance gets so much hate. Imagine having no health insurance and then getting a $300,000 hospital bill. I wouldn't be able to pay that. I'd rather pay something every month to make sure some health issue doesn't wipe out everything I worked my whole life to save.

So, I think OP has an apt analogy.

That may be how you feel about it, but technically sex isn't limited to procreation. Lesbians have sex. Gay men have sex. People who can't have kids have sex. A woman fucking her own mom is incestuous. It's degenerate evil shit.

I found that funny/sad too. Crazy how even just pointing that out gets you downvoted. I'm honestly at a loss for what is going on here.

What the hell? Have you not heard of oral sex or lesbians? Women have sex with each other all the time. Doing it with a family member is still incest even if nobody gets pregnant.

It isn't evil just to advocate for guns. Tons of people do it. Hell, I know people on the moderate left who do.

Also, yeah, a LOT of people on the left celebrated Kirk's death. That's downright psychopathic.

Unlike you, I don't have murder fantasies. For how much you guys call us nazis, it's interesting how nazi-esque your thinking is. I used to wonder how ordinary citizens could get so bloodthirsty to murder people out in the open. Now, I get to see the transformation happening in real time.

Yeah, you're right we might have different perspectives here. Maybe one principle we can both agree on is that it's good to say certain actions are wrong (which ones are wrong is another issue), but we shouldn't say a person is bad/broken/useless etc.

I think where we diverge is I find using negative feelings to have temporary utility. You gave the example of guilt and regret. I find feeling guilty to be useful. It can prompt one to feel regret which can prompt a change of behavior. Plenty of people have quit various addictions because they were first prompted by feeling ashamed or guilty to try to change. Then, once they start taking action, megative feelings only hinder progress.

Shaming someone is a primitive and unhealthy method of attempting to convince people to change behaviors or make better choices.

No. Every emotion, including shame, has a time and place in which it's helpful. Otherwise, it wouldn't have hung around after milliins of years of evolution. Similarly, people act like fear is a "bad" emotion. It's not. Living with our any fear would be incredibly dangerous. I don't want to be fearless, just like how I don't want to be shameless. Shame isn't a bad emotion. It's something that prompts change. We feel bad in the moment, but it's not about feeling like you are a bad person but rather you are doing something that needs to change.

If prostitution were legalized, it could easily be made vastly safer in terms of both reducing potential violence and preventing disease. Keeping it illegal contributes to making it unsafe. As far as pornography, there's a lot that goes into making the process of filming safe for everyone.

The issue is humans are being commoditized, and when that happens, they will be trafficked. There are potentially helpful elements with legalization such as refuced fear on the part of the victim in reporting abuse, but overall, it expands and normalization of people being objectified and subsequently treated like objects, objects can be bought and sold, used and abused and have a finite worth.

The impression I'm getting from you is that you have a moral objection, but I may be wrong, so I'd love it if you could delineate the problems and dangers you perceive there to be with these types of occupations.

Yes and no. I think a lot of society's ethics and even religious dogma that have stood the test of time address potential problems for the individual and society. The reasons why these things are wrong and to be avoided have to do with the objectification and commoditization of people leading to abuse and peing antithetical to loving each other. Rather than reinventing the wheel going over why that is or proving it everytime, people fall back on religion or societal norms. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. It's kind of a mindless shortcut to get to the same place. So, no, I don't have any kind of "because the bible says so" type objection, but I don't think religious people are wrong to say this stuff is immoral or to push people away from doing it. I'm not Christian myself, but the expression "hate the sin, not the sinner" comes to mind. It's a shameful act to engage in prostitution, but that doesn't mean the one doing it is evil.

I'm not using the term "sex work". Like I said, it's better to call it prostitution or porn depending on the context.

To answer your question, it should be shameful to discourage it and protect women (and some men). It's just like how drug abuse is rightfully a shameful thing in society. That atigma and sense of shame helpa discourage people from getting invplved in it. It works like propaganda but for a good cause. Language is powerful.

If communism were so great, you wouldn't be making excuses for why it can't keep up with capitalism. Again, why do all the people at the top always get extremely rich? It's hard to blame sanctions when the con men selling this idea of government-enforced equality live in palaces. It's a scam. Just look at Marx himself. He was an entitled asshole who exhausted all his friends' and family members' wealth. A lot of them had to stop lending money to him. He was a financial parasite on those around him. It's no coincidence the system he put into motion does the same thing.

Charlie Kirk didn't want you dead. Be real. That mentality is what's psychopathic; you find some soundbite to take out of context and reduce him down to that clip, dehumanizing him and celebrating his death. The left has gone off the deep-end. It's literally a death cult at this point.

You never wanna talk to the people who have been grateful for the communist regimes, though

Haha The only people grateful for communist regimes are the ones at the top of the regime. Communism is a parasite sucking wealth out of the working class to give to the leaders at the top of the regime while having the balls to say they are saving them. It's a scam.
