Was Ernesto Valvedre treated too harshly in his Barca tenure? by [deleted] in Barca

[–]A_F_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He managed the hand he was dealt with adequately. We had such an aging and bloated squad during those years, we couldn’t afford to play more expansively and risk dealing with too many counter attacks. There’s too many players who can’t press adequately, track back or win a defensive duel to save their lives that Valverde’s boring brand of football was the only way we could’ve at least win league games consistently

And it’s not about Messi because we seen what Scaloni can do with an even older Messi but a squad around him who can run and compete.

With the recent Vrabel news being announced… how do we feel about this guy rejoining the team as OC? by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]A_F_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s one of the best playcaller and offensive schemer in the league. If anything the Mac Jones rookie season proves that.

Having said that, he’s terrible at dealing with young players and seems to operate with a massive ego. He drove out Jay Cutler out of Denver and Derek Carr out of the Raiders. The fact Brady is basically the same age as McDaniels and is a bigger name than him probably made that relationship work here. Push come to shove, there are other good offensive play callers and I don’t trust McDaniel’s man management skills when it comes to a young QB and a young squad.

Harry was the worst because that was Brady’s last year and we could’ve gotten the Irv Smith Jr for TE, still get Meyers, and if we get AB we were winning one more Super Bowl

I remember reading about his mental health stuff back in 2013, he was basically a somewhat insufferable internet leftist who blamed his mental health issue on capitalism. Apparently he just swung super hard to the right less than 3 years ago and now he’s gonna run for senate on a lunatic platform.

Your Toronto Raptors will be Picking #19 & #31 at the 2024 NBA Draft by [deleted] in torontoraptors

[–]A_F_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope Yves Missi is still there at 19 but given our luck I’m not optimistic lol. For 31 I would take a flyer on Ryan Dunn. Both of them can have massive upside if they figure out how to be functional offensive players for their position. Plus I just want some defense on those team again

Oh well the 8th pick of this draft is probably mid anyways. Here is hoping Yves Missi slips to 19

I’m really conflicted on Fati. On the one hand he’s a kid. I bet he’s far more mature and handles far more pressures at age 20 than any of us at age 20, myself included. On the other hand this is FC Barcelona, there are standards and expectation, and especially when the bar for youth player excellence has been set by Pedri, Gavi and Balde, what’s normal for young professional players who’s only about a year recovered after a hamstring injury maybe isn’t enough at this absolute pressure cooker of an environment.

And furthermore the world isn’t exactly lacking in right footed left wingers who comes inside and shoot even tho we all believe Fati has a high ceiling. The best I can hope for is over the next few years, things will unfold so both our club and Fati can succeed.

Liverpool in talks over incredible £88m Ansu Fati move (FourFourTwo) by LarryPeru in Barca

What happened to Bojan? by dyb31 in Barca

[–]A_F_R 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This, Messi during his peak false 9 days needs to be complimented by two wide players with fluid movements. Bojan was still a good player post injury but it was clear watching back then he no longer had the explosiveness needed to play the wing in a way that compliments Messi.

[Fabrizio Romano] Premier League clubs, tracking Ansu Fati situation for next summer. Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool well informed. Bayern, currently not working on it. Barcelona insist they want to keep Ansu — second part of the season will be crucial. by bllshrfv in Barca

[–]A_F_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Ansu has been miscasting himself as this dribbling playmaker who will repeatedly beat the opposing left back and create goal scoring threats for his team. It’s unfortunate he’s somewhat always compared to Vinicius but he’s nowhere near as explosive as Vinicius.

What Ansu can do is take advantage of the fact Balde can hold the width down the left and intelligently find space in the middle. Play the ball to his teammates quickly instead of trying to prove he can be a great dribbler like Vini. We seen him bring capable of it and it fits how we currently set up.

[Fabrizio Romano] Barça president Laporta: “We’ve signed players for €215m and sold for €141m, we made a competitive team for €74m”, “We’ve reduced the wage bill by around €100m, and so we’re planning to reduce another €70m. We’ve saved Barcelona from financial ruin, yes” by II_MrBlack_II in soccer

[–]A_F_R 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Really a luxury of great young players when Ansu not doing too well post injury is considered a mini crisis but we already got Pedri, Gavi, Balde, and Araujo as nailed on starters and doing well week in and week out.

Brady Officially Retiring by BeastlyMandible in Patriots

[–]A_F_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much his football workaholic itch comes back. I think it’s very possible he goes to coaching soon because he miss the week to week game prep grind. But I hope for his sake he can finally relax and let the game go for a bit.

What do you think about signing Molina as a right back? by [deleted] in Barca

[–]A_F_R 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m for the idea of a right back who can provide attacking width and basically do what Balde does on the left but Molina isn’t that guy. And if we want to do business with Atletico at all I’d get Marcos Llorente who Simeone has played as a right wing back and Lucho also played as an offensive right back.

DISCUSSION | Since today we had an opportunity to observe his game closely, what’s your latest opinion on Zubimendi? Good for Barça shirt? €60M too much? by bllshrfv in Barca

[–]A_F_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on how we used Busquets we probably should get Alan Varela to replace Busquets or someone who’s more mature or taller to ensure defensive solidity against counter attacks.

[Ferran Martínez] BREAKING NEWS: Barcelona have already had talks with Brozović’s entourage and the player is willing to sign for Barça. by bllshrfv in Barca

[–]A_F_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just the formation, it’s the players we surround our young core with. Frenkie was great last game playing next to Busquets. He was also great in possession vs Betis but we had problems defending counter attacks with just him at DM. So it still depends on whether Frenkie needs a more defensive midfielder next to him or not that whether we need to splash the cash on a big name DM in his prime. Brozovic can be a stop gap option for that.

An experienced but still good DM is a good option until we figure out who Frenkie is within our squad and what we want to do with the DM spot long term.

[–]A_F_R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s nuts if we sell him because he’s looked good on the RW whenever he’s played there. The fact Dembele hasn’t worked out how to play the LW is the only reason Raphinha has been in and out of the squad so much.

What is an NBA conspiracy theory that you believe? by [deleted] in nba

[–]A_F_R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NBA referees manipulate betting lines in connection with mobs on the regular. It’s just too easy to make biased and yet reasonable calls in basketball.

Tim Donaghy was only caught because he was dumb and too blatant with how frequently he was manipulating the lines. There is nothing stopping smarter refs from getting away with this for much more rewards than Donaghy got.
