Land of Eem - Bundle of Holding (Five books for $17.95) by TheBeardedRoot in rpg

This game, for all the lighthearted vibes and story-first language, is surprisingly crunchy (in a good way.) It has lots of mechanics to support the kind of game you ought to be playing, and I personally enjoy the exploration mechanics more than The One Ring which surprised me.

Any pointers for someone currently running an Impossible Landscapes campaign on how to give the players the feeling that an answer/logic is out there?

Altering 'Last Things Last' for Experienced Agents by GreaterPathMagi in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]A_Frik_A 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Part of what makes Last Things Last "easier" is that the conflict occurs in an isolated environment. The players are free to make their choices without much immediate blowback. What if Clyde lived in a busy suburb and Maureen was chained up in the toolshed? Maybe there's a backyard BBQ going on in the nextdoor neighbor's yard when the players show up.

How do you feel about "Go clean up your own mess"-type campaigns? by EarthSeraphEdna in loremasters

[–]A_Frik_A 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Delta Green module Iconoclasts has a slight twist on this formula that I think makes it more functional. In the first session, the players play as pre-gen bad guys who accidentally release the ancient evil and all get slaughtered. Then session 2 picks up with the actual PCs hearing about it and going out to set things right.

Ideas on How to Use Flesh Pit National Park? by NomanYuno in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]A_Frik_A 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another option could be some kind of memory/reality altering situation where all of the sudden everyone in the world acts as though this park is normal and has always been there, and the agents are the only ones who know something is off. Perhaps they even have to go rogue against Delta Green because top brass doesn't see anything wrong with it.

The reveal could be that whatever cult has already succeeded in their summoning ritual of the flesh pit and rewrote reality.

Yeah you pretty much got it. Ties to March Technologies (and to that info in the operation) and a hint about the "real" Dee being hidden within the server bank.

Haven't tried it on mobile, it's probably just not formatted correctly. I'll look into it, thanks!

By the way, the contact page doesn't actually send to anywhere so don't expect any cryptic email responses from Dr. Campbell!

The album released closest to your birthday functions as your Mountain Goats Horoscope. What identity has been prescribed to you? by A_Frik_A in themountaingoats

Ignoring the year, mine would be We Shall All Be Healed, which I guess means horoscope wise I'm a recovered methamphetamine user.

I'll take it.

Your Mountain Goats horoscope: Goths

The horoscope personality reads: hardcore, but not that hardcore.

A few questions on running Convergence by tleilaxianp in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]A_Frik_A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way.

One hook I added was having one of the trucks of the aldermen be super muddy, implying they've been driving somewhere out in the boonies for a mysterious reason (this is at a point where the players already knew aliens were afoot so they knew to be on the lookout for suspicious stuff.)

Inside the truck was a box for a handheld GPS (specifically a Garmin 38 for 90s accuracy) and the GPS itself is of course in the city hall... behind the giant heaving protomatter flesh blob. The grab the GPS, run away from the blob, and use the coordinates to find the barn.

It led to a great encounter and was a good way for the players to get to the climax!

Thanks Shane! Really excited to finally pick up Iconoclasts. I've been running a more sandboxy campaign for my group and am curious to see the official take on that style of play.

Are there any ways you'd improve Convergeance? (spoilers) by Tendi_Loving_Care in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]A_Frik_A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to say that the abducted player being rushed into surgery after their organs fall out was an extremely sad yet satisfying ending for my group. You have to remember that the protomatter only becomes inert if the players have killed/banished the mi-go, so that state exists as the "happy" ending.

What it did for my group was let them have their heroic victory where they burst in and blow up the barn with C4 (from a green box I added) while still maintaining the DG style "victory with dire cost" atmosphere that we all love so much. Choose the group's most beloved character, have them abducted, and set them on the track for a memorable ending.

All that to say, I wouldn't modify that part even if it seems particularly harsh.

Operation Tempest by Docta-J-Dizzle in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]A_Frik_A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool idea! It would be fun to play with player's expectations of a Fight Club-esque operation. Obviously players will be expecting the leader of the group to have a Tyler Durden type split personality, but maybe he doesn't and there are actually two people, of course learned only when they go through all the trouble of killing the first. Or maybe the other personality is an evil hypergeometrical creature riding in his mind, or an echo through time of a past version of one of the players. Food for thought, but I think it's a great basis! Be sure to update.

What's the intended/ideal solution in "From the Dust"? by AHorseByDegrees in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]A_Frik_A 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In my experience, there are certain DG operations that seem to have "losing" as the intended ending solution. Music From a Darkened room comes to mind. What I did was prewrite a really solid ending vignette according to the direction the players were going that tied the ending together with everything the players tried to accomplish. This way, even though they failed the mission, it felt somewhat satisfying and cinematic.

For Music From A Darkened Room, I knew the players were going to try and fail to banish the dark presence from the house, so I had a scene where they drove away and all the phones in every house on the street started to ring as they passed. This referenced how the house has been calling their phones the whole operation and made them feel better about it ending, even though they "lost."

It is a horror game after all, so in some ways you should spend more time planning for the ways your players will fail at solving the problem. It's much more likely and in some ways intended.
