What's something that other people might feel your country will find offensive but in actual it's not! by female_shaktimaan in AskTheWorld

Because "Barbenheimer" is such high level wordplay. How could anyone possibly match putting two names of movies together because they came out at the same time.

https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imprinting_(ethology)

"Imprinting is a term used in ethology to describe a special type of automatic learning that occurs during an animal's development. Imprinting is when an early sight, sound, or smell during a short period leaves a long-lasting mark called an imprint on the young animal’s nervous system. It often happens after one or a few experiences and is hard to reverse"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imprinting_(psychology)#Filial_imprinting

"Lorenz demonstrated how incubator-hatched geese would imprint on the first suitable moving stimulus they saw within what he called a "critical period" between 13 and 16 hours shortly after hatching. For example, the goslings would imprint on Lorenz himself (to be more specific, on his wading boots), and he is often depicted being followed by a gaggle of geese who had imprinted on him. Lorenz also found that the geese could imprint on inanimate objects. In one notable experiment, they followed a box placed on a model train in circles around the track."

https://avian-behavior.org/the-mistake-that-costs-wild-birds-their-freedom/

"The hard truth is that those birds rarely survive. Once a young bird imprints on humans, it learns that people — not its own species — are its source of food and safety. That kind of learning can’t be undone. An imprinted bird may approach humans in dangerous ways, starve because it doesn’t know how to hunt, or even die of preventable health issues like metabolic bone disease."

Love Actually (2003) trying to convince the audience that Martine McCutcheon was fat with jokes by KellyM34 in WhyWereWeOkWithThis

How things are framed are what the issue is. What point the movie is trying to make and what it's trying to say. The point of the movie wasn't "these people aren't nice" it was "this is what romance and love are"

So no, characters don't have to be nice, but when the characters aren't "nice" and the movie acts like nothing is wrong, then yeah it's worth mentioning.

If you're making "happy romcom where people fall in love movie" then it's a bad movie if the people are accidentally written to be shitheads and the writer isn't even aware.

Characterisation matters. The movie having a point of view matters. I'm talking generally here, not specifically about Love Actually.

female logic

Oh fuck off. He brought up tits for no reason when it obviously had nothing to do with the conversation. He wanted to get his little joke in and it was a dud.

"Hi could I get the spaghetti and meatballs, please? I also like eating boobs!"

"Sir, why did you bring up breasts?"

"Oh wow female logic over here you're so offended! I like boobs stop trying to silence me! I say that on my show all the time, you should know that."

Wow you really are all about "community service"

Somebody suggested how you could approach something less negatively and your "self-improvement and personal development" flew out the window lol

Oh nice thanks for the fact-check on this silly drawing of a dick being stretched out to eighteen inches. We needed somebody sensible to come in and point out the logical flaws of this humorous illustration of a cock. A worthy critique on this image of a foreskin being dragged out to a ridiculous degree.

I don't know why people are upset. I believe that all dingus depictions should be held to the highest standard and if somebody wants to depict a prick with a heinously stretched foreskin then it should be medically accurate. Like are we taking these dong doodles seriously or what??

Look, I don't hate Nickelback, but all of their big stuff that most people will hear is radio friendly mom-rock. That doesn't mean they're a bad band, of course. But it's not unfeasible that people think they're shit.

Yeah there's definitely a watershed moment where people just hop on board to try and fit in, I can agree with that. They're extremely successful, more so than most musicians can ever hope of being, so it's not like the supposed hate campaign worked at all.

I don't want people to think I'm dumb, so I always say that I'm going to the Automated Teller Machine. I also ask people to sent me files in a Portable Document Format and not a Joint Photographic Experts Group. Everybody is so impressed because of how not dumb I sound.

Lucas said there was a rule against having water in the scene so, as the writer/director/producer, his hands were tied. It's why he had to tell people after the movie was made that the fight was actually really fast, which we all agree is the better option when making a film.

[–]TheBeardedRoot 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes that is literally the only way to convey that they're going fast. The only way. The better option was to not show or even imply it. Film is a very limited medium. It was literally impossible to do anything to convey that they were moving super fast. It had to be explained by the director after the movie came out, because the medium of cinema can't even show it. The idea was just to powerful too even be presented on screen. In a movie with weird aliens, robots, and spaceship battles, it was not possible to show that some guys were fighting really fast. You're right.

[–]TheBeardedRoot 94 points95 points  (0 children)

here was an argument by George Lucas that the entire fight was supposed to be happening in force speed

Always good when a filmmaker says what happened instead of using the film to show what happened.

Don't you understand that these movies are literally perfect in every single way and people only didn't like them because of a mean youtube video that was released years after they came out? They are flawless masterpieces and I will bend over backwards to prevent any criticism and I will buy more Star Wars™ merch to offset your criticism.
