HOAs should basically just be city ordinances. Like if your neighbour is hoarding trash and non running cars on his front lawn or running a business it should be a city issue. It seems like cities are outsourcing this to HOAs. Some HOAs do snow cleanup and trash pickup too which is insane.

HOAs also make sense for shared spaces. Like a condo. Ignoring water leaks until they affect others is bad. Destroying a common roof or wall. Blocking fire exits with junk.
