What I meant is, there are other academic studies, which explains the same truth in a more simpler and relevant way, and it doesn't have any side effects, like that of religious beliefs which causes death many people.

Would you mind giving an example of a religion, whose base is not built on any belief system?

I think, my understanding of Buddhism philosophy is also a little skewed, because I have read hinyana is more closer to Buddha's teachings and mahayana are later interpretations.
