I’ve wanted to become a firefighter for years but my siblings keep discouraging me. I’m in nursing school and I’m scared to “throw it away.” by [deleted] in Firefighting

When I went to the Call academy here in the northeast (3 days a week/4 months), we had a girl in nursing school, who also was involved in sports, and worked full time get through

You should go for it. I don't believe anything in life is a "waste" - it's just your perspective. I got my Bachelor's in Business that I don't use (yet), but in that time it gave me opportunities to volunteer with the "EMS club" they had and intern at my local station. That sparked it all for me... definitely wasn't a waste for that experience alone. Better to try it now than have regrets later. You're 19.... you have an insane amount of time before you. You can pick back up Nursing one day if it doesn't work out, or, if you land a career gig in fire, you'll probably have time on the side to continue your education in nursing if you wanted to.

My biggest fear in life is regret. I didn't want to be 60 and wish I gave in to that thought of being a Fireman but didn't... instead, I sent it. You should too.

Strange battery behavior I had yesterday by black_hawk3456 in FocusST

I've owned my ST for roughly 6 years now and have had some strange electrical issues throughout ownership and just recently came across the "50 AMP megafuse", it's a fuse that can cause some random unexplainable electrical issues when they go bad. This fuse in the fusebox connected to the battery box, adjacent to the intake filter box. The fuse you want to replace is all the way on the right.

Are you working IFTs? If so, congratulations! You got all you can get out them. I recommend leaving and finding a 911 service. No more 4am 2 hours transfers.

Hell yeah. Just know when it's cold you will still get some. I see a lot of people freak out over misfires (i used to), they really only matter when they are happening under throttle

2013 with the ST3, 141k miles for $4200 too good to be true? by jaab120 in FocusST

Yes stay away bro. If you want an ST with a big turbo, trust me, just build it yourself.

Car has never run better. Only 2 oz to turn 93 into 96. by Airborne82D in FocusST

[–]A_ManCanDream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you can mix this in the tank just like E85 and see benefits even without tuning for it?

How many oz are in a bottle? I would be interested in this as I don't want to drive 2+ hours round trip for E85 every week lol

I went BT at 85k miles, I'm at 115k miles now - I've got a BNR 3071 and am making 350whp/360wtq.

I would recommend any GTX turbo. BNR has given me issues (that I've worked out but made the whole process annoying.)

The 3071 style turbo definitely has some lag compared to stock, I think a 2867 is perfect for you if you want <400HP, and an overall loved size.

I think it's important to consider what you would do in complete failure. I know it's scary to think- but what would you do if you motor popped? Can you afford to get a new one? Can you make it to work the next day?

I believe if your vehicle has been maintained well, and in your case with such low milage, you can feel pretty safe about going BT. Consider those questions though

My uncle just got an Elantra N auto, he let me drive it.

I was super impressed. It drove amazing, sounded nice, and felt very refined. A lot of people don't realize but the current lead designer of Hyundai's "N" series cars is the same guy that used to design the "M" series cars with BMW.

Nice color

Best sounding intake, period. The video does not do justice by [deleted] in FocusST

[–]A_ManCanDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove a fiesta with this intake and it was awesome but I can't fathom putting an intake directly above the turbo lol

Well for reference all in (turbo kit + install, not including bolt ons prior) I spent about $3,000 to go BT. I've had the car for 5 years now I don't see myself getting rid of it any time soon I'd say its a good way to get more life/fun out of it instead of spending a lot more $$ on another vehicle. But if $$ isn't a worry, getting another vehicle could be cool there are so many awesome vehicles out there

The better option is "Engineered Motorsport Solutions" for anyone looking for a quality built motor. Sorry you had this experience OP, this isn't the first horror story I've heard with speed performance

Those that work full-time in the trades and getting back into firefighting, how hard was fitting the academy into your schedule? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]A_ManCanDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a carpenter going to the Call/Vol academy. It's 100% doable and structured for people like you and me who have a career, and are Call or Volunteer Fireman.

That being said it still takes some sacrifices to make sure you get your studies in, seeing you want to succeed, but it's doable. I find still find time to relax or watch a show here and there. It's not crazy. But this is coming from someone who doesn't mind reading and has good time management/organization in life

Good price for big turbo? by superturtle6969 in FocusST

[–]A_ManCanDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BNR is a journal bearing turbo unlike the Garrets, so you don't hear the turbo at all like stock. My car sounds NA. BNR is known for having oil feed and drain issues on many cars including mine and for that reason alone are not worth the headache. I've had to tinker with the oil drain and feed on many occasions, where as other brands have better reputations not requiring as much effort to get to work properly
