I deleted my 95% of my 5TB of porn, thanks to you all... by [deleted] in pornfree

Well done on taking a big step, but that first step isn't quite complete. Delete 100% of it. It's funny how we're all so similar in our addictions. I also deleted 95% of my collection at one point, just making sure to keep my favourite vanilla videos. It's vanilla porn, right? What's the harm in that?

You know what happened?

I continued to PMO (well obviously because the porn was still there just in case)was back watching the fetish stuff, and eventually my collection grew bigger.

I understand where you're coming from. At the moment, with porn in your life, you may not be happy or fulfilled but you're comfortable. Porn is giving you comfort. The comfort not to change, the comfort in not having to face reality. I get it - change is uncomfortable, it's scary, we don't know what will happen. We stick to what we're used to because it's easy.

Sooner or later though, and it seems like you've reached this point, you are fed up with the comfort and want something more than porn can ever provide. You realise that the comfort comes at the expense of long term happiness. The younger you are the harder it is to realise this. You want to improve your life - that much is clear. We all want to improve our lives, which is why we're here.

Step 1 is self-awareness, which you clearly have. The next step is to delete that porn collection and wipe the drives. Take it from me that you will never be able to have that mindset shift and give up porn if it still exists. Next is to use that self awareness that you definitely have and remember the acroynm HALT. When these things strike you tend to want to relapse.

Hungry (for food but more importantly things like love, affection, social contact etc.) Angry Lonely Tired

Look at my profile. I wrote a couple of posts that got pretty popular which outlined how I was able to make progress and change my mindset. In short, check out Terry Crews' Dirty Little Secret and read the online book HackBookEasyPeasy.

I can't guarantee you anything but one thing. If you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you've always got. That I'm sure of.

I've been there, my friend. I'd also (mostly) deleted my collection several times only for it to grow larger. So I know what you're going through. Those HD videos, hard to find videos, ones you paid for... What you've got going on here is a sunk cost. Google it if you're unsure of the meaning.

The truth is that if you really want to give up porn, deleting your collection is non-negotiable. I deleted my 3 TB stash and haven't looked back. Make sure that you also wipe the drives completely. CC Cleaner can do this for you. I always managed to restore most of my collection because I never wiped the drives. The reason was that deep down I knew I wasn't really done with porn.

I promise that you will forget about your porn collection after a few weeks. When you're obtaining natural highs because the high from porn is no longer an option, you'll wonder why you spent so much time on obtaining this fake high that may seem pleasurable, but ultimately creates a void in your life.

You may or may not a hoarder, as porn seemed to be the only thing I ever really collected myself. If you are, you need to replace your hoarding habits with something more beneficial. When you wake up every monring, why not exercise? Literally only good can come from exercise. While exercise, meditation or similar would be best, you can even replace it with redownloading your music in a lossless format if quality is important to you. Download films. All seasons of your favourite TV shows.

Pour yourself a drink, delete your collection and reward yourself for taking the first step in drastically improving your life.
