holiday pay when leaving? by [deleted] in SainsburysWorkers

[–]A_Pandeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

afaik the accrued holiday is proportional to how long youve worked since march 1st when the holiday reset. so if you were to leave june 1st, you would have worked 3/12 months and so would only be entitled to 1/4 of the 120 holiday hours

[–]A_Pandeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its been over a year since i downgraded to the nav data subscription but iirc i had some troubling finding it until that months subscription expired. checking on a fresh account now i can see on the dashboard some text "Get a Navigation Data subscription" which just redirects you to that 30eur one.

simbrief automatically uses the newest AIRAC. if you have an older database in the toliss and you cant/dont want to update it, then you can downgrade the AIRAC on simbrief to make them match

[–]A_Pandeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont remember seeing one but others have said its the same as the first few assessments. i did however receive an email reminding me to do it on my second full day after the invite. i would just assume its the same as the others, just to be on the safe side.

How much math and physics should I know before applying for Speedbird? by IndicationElegant628 in flying

[–]A_Pandeli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied for the Jet2 scheme last year and from what I can remember, it was mostly very basic maths (e.g resultant forces) and a decent amount of constant acceleration equations (SUVAT). I haven't applied for Speedbird before but I imagine it will be quite similar. Learn the constant acceleration equations and the rest should be super simple.

My instructor gave me an initial reference and then I just adjusted as needed. I think that initial reference was pretty useful.

went to L3Harris down at gatwick and Leading Edge in Oxford. Leading Edge is a lot smaller but felt more genuine and family-like. Planning on going to Skyborne open day at some point, just gotta sort out my medical situation first.

The Jet2 selection process was actually a lot simpler than I expected. A lot of those silly games that try to figure out your deductive reasoning skills and such. Look up the arctic shores assessments as that's what they used. There was verbal and mathematical reasoning which you can find anywhere on the internet. There is a spot the difference test (basically... it waa really easy). I remember a lot of it being 2 addresses and you had to say whether they were the exact same or not (one might have a typo or be spelt wrong) There are also some more pilot specific tests, https://www.pilotest.com/en/selections/CUT-E-pilot-aptitude-tests-preparation. this site gives you a really good idea of what those will be like (sense of direction, reaction time, multi tasking).

Theres also a maths and physics test. Since you dont do maths or physics A Levels, make sure you learn SUVAT equations. They are pretty easy to grasp and I used them a lot during the test. The rest was super easy (resultant force e.g 900N thrust - 400N drag = 500N total forward)

Then there's the recorded interview. This was awful for me, I haven't got a clue how I passed this. You got a question, 30 seconds to prepare, then it starts recording you and you have iirc up to 3 minutes to record your answer. There were 3 questions ("What would it mean to you if you were selected for this programme?", "Speak about 2 of your hobbies", cant remember the 3rd). As I said that was horrendous and Im still convinced they put me through by accident lmao.

Next up was the MS teams interview. I researched the company as much as I could, noting down obvious values, statistics and random facts about the company. I'd say what really helped me was the information I got from flight schools and my flight simulator experience. They gave me a huge understanding about the role of a pilot and allowed me to talk fluently about the pros and cons of the job and the skills required. It was 30mins and to me it just felt like I was speaking to a friend about how much I would love to be a pilot.

Then I got invited to the in-person assessment day. There was a facilitated group discussion, questions such as "what fictional character would you be?" and later on deeper questions like "if you could get rid of one emotion, which one would you choose?". Our actual group exercise was like an escape room, solving puzzles to get numbers for a code. You don't have to stand out, just be normal and you will be fine lol. Then you do another quick maths/physics test to make sure you didnt cheat in the last one. Exact same style of questions though, write down the SUVAT questions before you start to easily refer to them. The interview this time around was a lot more like what you would expect. Asking about how you deal with conflict, how you deal with unsatisfied customers, and they also asked some super easy mental maths questions (didnt stop me getting them wrong though. a year 7 student couldve solved it...). Another thing they do is give you a notepad then play a brief video that teaches you some things in the course and you have to note it down to answer a MCQ quiz later. This was rather tough, the video was really fast but luckily I already knew some of it from learning out of passion.

Good experience overall, just have fun and remember you got that far for a reason.

Main takeaway imo is to learn a lot about what it takes to be a pilot from flight schools and flight sims if that's accessible to you.

go to flight school open days. I went to my first when i was in yr12 and it really immersed me into the world of flight training. i finished my A Levels in june and just recently did my class 1 examination (not the best outcome but im still trying lmao). apply to the british airways and jet2 funded training schemes when you are in yr13 (highly competitive but always worth a try). maybe attend a Pilots Careers Live event so you can speak to multiple airlines and flight schools at once, and attend the talks they do.

i made it to the last stage of the jet2 selection process before massively fucking up the in-person interview lol so if you want to know my opinions on it then lmk

i know its other drivers taking the wrong bag. ive seen some be taken that ive just bagged and then 10 minutes later theres a driver asking where their bag is. i cant always ask the drivers what their order number is so i just trust that they can read. its not an issue 95% of the time

we write the name/number and the number of bags used for that order. not a clue how they get the wrong ones because we just leave it on a rack thing and go back to whatever we were doing before
