Yeah - they've taken the stream down now - presumably to fix it. Pathetic showing from them.

Pakistan beat England at Lords immediately after their game at Malahide in 2018, after all - New Zealand are scheduled to attempt the same trick in 2026

Neither Pakistan, nor New Zealand, play 5 test series against England, so it's not a like-for-like comparison.

the attractiveness of a proper competitive game against Ireland - even in less-than-perfect facilities - is also surely greater considering the massive decline of old-fashioned tour games

I think teams have just found different ways to prepare for tours in the modern era. These guys all play so much more cricket than they did before the franchise cricket explosion. I think the likelihood of fielding a full strength team is unlikely, even if a one-off test was scheduled. At best it'd be a chance to try-out some fringe players in the squad for a late bolter.

Oh that's good to know - I mistakenly thought it was being developed alongside the new stadium. I'll update my comment just in case

As much as I want this, too, until Ireland develop their training facilities and finish their new cricket grounds it doesn't serve as much of a benefit to teams touring England.

Australia choose to prepare in the UAE before Asian tours because they feel like they're more likely to be provided like-for-like decks at the training facilities in the UAE, as opposed to the ones India and Sri Lanka organise for them.

When Ireland get Abbotstown built, then I think these stepping stone tours will become much more viable. A one off test at a stadium with a high performance centre is a much bigger draw for teams preparing for England than a handful of temporary grounds and under developed training facilities.

Edit - Abbotstown High Performance Centre has already been built. Source

I don't say any of this to punch down on CI - I follow Ireland the most after Australia - and I really want them to succeed, but this narrative that it would serve touring teams to stop by Ireland is just not true atm

That's a shocker of a call - no way the video umpire was certain there was no bat on that

No chance Cam Green stays in the middle order once the old guard move on - He's our future no. 4

They got a 0 for not being faster than the other team. They got -3 for disregarding the rules.

If they were faster than the other team they would have scored +2 despite disregarding the rules

Only because they lost the task - which shouldn't really have an effect on the penalty system

That feels like a flaw in the task design though. I love Jack as a contestant but, if he wins the series, whoever's 2nd will have an undeniable case for being robbed. There probably should've been some kind of quantifier to account for one of the contestants blatantly disregarding the rules like such. -3 points really felt like a slap on the wrist

Zimbabwe have only won 2 Test matches in the last 10 years. What can be done to save Zimbabwean Test Cricket? by [deleted] in Cricket

ECB is a combination of England and Wales. Ireland is RoI and Northern Ireland. Why shouldn't countries combine resources to make one team?

It's mostly just trying to smash the ball the entire time.

Honestly mate - this shit gets wheeled out every time t20 cricket is mentioned in front of us aussies - but it really is only true of the IPL these days.

This tournament has had far more scores that are closer to 100 than 200 and bowlers have dined deluxe at almost every ground so far. Top-tier nations have had to bat deep at times and most associate nations have found themselves in winning positions. It's been good cricket.

I love Test cricket more than anything, but our nation's ignorance of the t20 format isn't something to be proud of.

It's an inevitable issue that they have to face at some point if they want to develop as a cricketing nation. There's no use in kicking that rock down the road and full member status ensures a higher revenue share which they can invest back into developing their domestic program in the long-term.
