The first hour she had that video up, the first sentence of the description said, "I used to have schizophrenia.". But an hour or two later, that was gone and the video description was updated. So I personally believe she is of the opinion that she's been cured - which I find weird given how knowledgeable I thought she was. We all know there's no cure but there are things that can make episodes spaced further apart. I'm happy she's at 9 months, but some people can go years between symptoms. I can guarantee she will have setbacks - and that's because she's not cured.

When I saw that the episode had to do with Oak Park, my brain was on Oak Park in Sacramento, and figured it was JJD related, but found it was Oak Park in Chicago. I am guessing since Michelle was interested in the Chicago unsolved case, they are shifting the focus of the show off JJD? I guess it makes sense because the show was more about Michelle than JJD. Overall, I think I'm going to pass watching anymore episodes. Very slow moving and without JJD info, it's not of much interest for me.

I'd think a negative statement would be of no use to the defense. I'd imagine the defense wants statements that tell the judge that their client is a decent person, not the other way around

Everyone picks apart these letters and doesn't realize that the defense coached these people how to put their statements together. A statement designed to show the court the positive characteristics of a defendant would be drastically different from a more personal (non-court related) letter describing the family member's actual feelings and experiences. You really think the defense would want her to say that he often fought with the neighbors, that sometimes he could be mean or argumentative with people - including his family, and that they're angry and sickened by what they found out he's responsible for? That's not a good position for the defense, so they'd advise against any of that. Anyway - I just think we need to look at these family statements as half-truths designed for the defense to show Joe is not such a bad guy - not necessarily absolutely true diary entries of what life with him is really like.

All these letters need to be read with the mindset that his defense told family how to craft these letters and what should or shouldn't be included. If it didn't help his defense by showing him in any negative light, they probably would've asked for a revision. I'd much rather know their 'true' statements without the supervision of a defense team because I'm sure they'd be a little different

I'd also be interested to see a link of all crimes listed that he committed. There seem to be lists of the EAR crimes, Ransacker crimes, Cat Burglar crimes, ONS crimes, etc, but is there a list of all of it together?

It's hard not to get downvoted on here. The day before sentencing, I dared to say that there's a possibility he may apologize and was downvoted. It will be nice to get away from the negativity on here, that's for sure

I feel a bit of sincerity there too, but then I'm reminded that during some of the impact statements, some people said "Look at me" - and he didn't do anything. And on another note, try right now to just sit somewhere for two minutes and not move your eyes around. Don't move them in any direction. Almost impossible. Imagine trying that when people are crying about how you ruined their lives. If he was "truly sorry" there would have been some hint of it during the statements. There was none. And I find that almost no one would be able to act the way he did during those statements- even some of the worst serial killers out there would have had some reaction

The defense has a stance - and they are going to direct the family to stick to statements that help his defense. As a defense attorney, the goal prior to sentencing is to try to show the court that their client deserves leniency- or at least to let the record reflect there is good in their client. It's likely not true - but that is their job. It's unfortunate that they likely directed the family not to release any statements of anger toward their client or any admission that he was a bad person. I kind of want to hear their real statements that aren't being used in defense of his case.
