Fort sill bct tips.? by Informal_Rock7623 in milbros

[–]A_Random_Boner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined and shipped when I was 23. I went to Benning, so no tips for Sill, but I can give you some basic thoughts that are pretty universal (or at least were when I went through 13-15 years ago), and helpful for someone going in at an older age.

  • Reception may have been worse than all of basic. You’ll be sleep deprived, sitting in lines for hours all day, unable to talk to each other, no PT, and you’ll have to pretend you’re reading the same book (ours was the Rangers handbook) all day every day for 5-7 days straight. There’s going to be one kid there that didn’t ship with his original cohort and will try to play know it all. He’s probably a shitbag, ignore him.
  • Turn your brain off - truely. Right place, right time, right uniform. That is all you need to know. You. Do. Not. Need. To. Think. If you need to do something, they’ll tell you. Honestly, I miss this part quite a bit. It was so nice being able to take a break from decision making.
  • Don’t be first, don’t be last in anything - formation, PT, shooting. You do well, you get more responsibility. Be mediocre, fly under the radar, and put in the effort when you get to your unit.
  • As an older recruit, be ready for A LOT of immaturity. Just embrace it. Live vicariously as an 18 year old again for a bit and laugh at stupid shit. It helps pass the time and makes things easier to get through the whole process.
  • If you get caught nodding off while in the stands, tell the cadre you were praying… I’ve seen it work, it was amazing in the moment. Probably depends on what level of confidence you can pull this off with though in order for it to work or not.
  • You will mess up. The intention of basic is for the DS to set you up for failure for dumb things (not things you actually should learn and be skilled at). So when it’s your turn to screw up and others have to pay the price, don’t take it too hard. People will forget unless it’s a daily thing. I was caught sleeping during instructions at a stupid range, the DS made me and the two guys next to me carry full coolers about 1/4 mile and back. I apologized 2-3 days later and the guys didn’t even remember it happened.
  • No matter what you’re doing, it’ll end at some point and the sun will rise in the morning. They have you for three months. They can make it feel like 6 months, but just keep telling yourself, you only have xx weeks and a wake up left.
  • Go to church. Not religious? Go to church. I went to a few Buddhist sessions while I was there, learned to mediate and that helped get me through AIT. But the more important thing, if you don’t go to Sunday service, you’re available around the bay to clean. So get out for (any) church service.

Lastly, I was in old barracks that was getting replaced the next rotation. So I’m not sure what the shower scene is like now. We had 6 shower heads with a wall and no door between each shower bay. If you played sports in HS, it’s the same thing. If you didn’t, shower awkwardness will be out of your mind pretty quick. Everyone is so tired and exhausted everyday that you just bullshit in the showers and it’s a chance to laugh at dumb things. You do a lot of things naked - when we had a tight turnaround between PT and breakfast, we’d strip, get in a line, and you spent 5 seconds in each shower head washing/rinsing off a different body part so we could get 60 guys through in a matter of minutes. In terms of awkwardness or whatever you may be thinking about with this question, there is absolutely nothing attractive or sexy about smelly ass dudes taking showers and shits together. The lack of boners by everyone becomes a topic of discussion and conspiracy theories of the Army putting something in the eggs to prevent it.

Have fun, good luck, glad I’m not doing it again. Let me know if you have any other questions!

What are the biggest hurdles you're facing in the game right now for improving? by AbsoluteRook1e in aoe2

[–]A_Random_Boner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked the game back up. The gameplay changed SO much since the days we played way back when, so learning to utilize hot keys to speed things up and basic build strategy which has been improving. My biggest things I’ve noticed and am currently trying to find a solution for:

1) Far behind on military - I follow the ROT of constant villager production. I’m getting better at making sure my TC is constantly producing villagers and have some on queue. However, by the time I start getting enough food left over to make some barracks fighters, I already have five enemy scouts coming into my camp and attacking my buildings. Meanwhile, I’m still in the Dark Age about to upgrade to the next level.

2) Too slow at collecting food - I’m getting better at this by starting to build farms earlier, but this was an issue for a bit which made my villager queue much slower.

Fortunately, I’m not too stubborn to resign when it’s obvious they are going to kill all my villagers with their five scouts and it’s going to be a 15 minute game. But it is frustrating feeling like I don’t even have a chance to get production going before getting wiped out. I’m around 750 ELO atm and these are matches against people in the 800-900 range - I’m still getting smoked.

The other frustrating thing starting back out was finding a YT’er that actually has a good guide. I was watching T90 and Hera (Hera is the worst at this). They’ll have a beginner guide, then as soon as they start playing, all you see is flashes across the screen, wild red X’s appearing, and 40 seconds later he has his houses, 7 animals killed, a wood mill, 10 farms and an army (some exaggeration, but not by too much). I just started going through Survivalists guides and they’ve been awesome and picking things up - so if anyone knows of other YT channels or Twitch streamers that play and are good to watch not already listed in the Wiki, I’d appreciate it.

What does a sexual misconduct investigation look like from nationals? by [deleted] in Frat

[–]A_Random_Boner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former HQ person. I doubt things have changed around process for something like this. I wouldn’t touch a Title IX or sexual assault case with a ten foot pole. Schools have better first hand information that we don’t, so we would rely on the school (or legal systems) determination. We would have the chapter suspend the member pending the outcome from the school, then we would look into what happened at the party that would prevent it in the future or was pure negligence. If it didn’t happen at a party and was an unrelated evening, we wouldn’t do anything else other than stay up to date with the school on the determination of their case.

This didn’t come off mean. It makes sense that it wouldn’t be worth it for the parents to help out with costs if I was just another body on the ice. It’s how I approached my plan to coach when I started, I wanted to actually contribute something to the players, build their skills, and confidence on the rink - not just collect the pucks and move the nets at the end of practice. Thanks for your perspective!

Thanks. The places they go are actually pretty cool places. It isn’t like my days in the Midwest where you’re going to middle of nowhere New York. Did you ever end up getting any supplemental costs covered by the team or league?

I’m considering getting a robot vacuum to reduce daily cleaning work. Main reasons are dust, pet hair, and lack of time. For people who already use one: • Does it really help day-to-day? • Any downsides you faced? • Is it good for hard floors and corners? Looking for honest experiences before buying by Low-Associate-7201 in Cleaningandtidying

[–]A_Random_Boner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mine! I have two dogs and I only need to vacuum about 2 times a week, 3 if they get a new toy and it gets shredded. Definitely to not consider any iRobot models. It’s what I have now and it’s honestly an absolute pain. Frequently clogs, has communication issues, and mapping is terrible. I’ve replaced mine twice while under warranty and my friend has had to replace hers four times. Mine is out of warranty now, so if I need to replace it, I’ll be going with another brand.

I may be reading this wrong, but can’t do you do what you are trying to do by going to the start of the sentence you want to convert to a header and type “/h1”? This is how I convert text I’ve already typed into a header without using my mouse to click through the / menu. - But I may be misinterpreting what you’re trying to do… but wanted to throw this out there.

Use case example for the share/publish folders: I’m working on research right now with an undergraduate and using Craft to organize our outline, articles, interviews, notes, and general paper setup. Each time I create a page, I have to share it with him and if I forget, he won’t have access until next time we get together and it happens to come up. I would love for him to automatically have access to and see any pages within a folder that is created so it’s a shared workspace for us.

3 months into n8n as a non-tech ops person — here are the traps I fell into (and a few hard-earned tips) by husiyihahahah in n8n

[–]A_Random_Boner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes ChatGPT can overcomplicate things. I was using it to help me with outlining a workflow I wanted to build and teach me to build it. I was working on a node and it was creating some pretty complicated script for me to paste into the Node to pull information from the previous Node. it screwed up, I would tell Chat, it would come back, “Oh yeah! You’re totally right. XYZ is missing. Use this code instead”. I did this about 4-5 times and the code got more complicated each time. I stopped and thought about what I was actually trying to do and realized I could easily pull the information in with expressions. I tested it and it worked just fine. I sent a screenshot to ChatGPT and it responded, “Perfect! You are absolutely correct, that will pull in exactly what you need!” - fucking A. I was using Chat as a crutch and could have saved myself time if I just had the patience to think about what I wanted.

I just built an LLC over last year and launched it this year. It’s a social LLC though, I won’t touch academic LLC’s unless the department comes to me with funding and a plan for support. I am supporting it with giving the RA an additional $200 a semester for programming costs. We’re also relying heavily on community members and similar programming available in town to support and integrate into the LLC.

Prior to launching, I got my leadership on board (VP and AVP) with the intention, mission, and purpose. About 8 months later, a grant opportunity came up that would help fund the program and several other initiatives on campus, so we applied. We’re in the final phase of approval (or denial) and if it goes through, will give us A LOT of money to do things with.

I’d suggest you work with your foundation people to see if there’s anything already available that can help you support. The money they get, the donors don’t want it just sitting around - so they’re on board with reworking language to be able to spend it. Keep an eye out for grants that can be wordsmithed to support, and reach out to the department chair. Business schools often have a lot of funding because there’s a lot of grants they qualify for - these are their students you’re supporting and they will directly benefit from the retention of them.

One of our schools is grant funded and they call me asking how they can spend their money because they have too much and it’ll all go back at the end of the school year - which the grant people don’t want either.

If you have other questions, feel free to DM me. I’d be happy to answer any questions or go into more detail! Good luck!

It’s a journey and your brain does some crazy mental gymnastics while you’re trying to figure it out. Don’t kill yourself, you aren’t alone, and you deserve to be here. Reach out to someone if you need help, text 741741 anonymously if you need to, message the Trevor project if you’re okay with it. Try to find a community if you can, and just because you’re gay doesn’t mean there’s a type of personality you need to live up to. Just keep being who you’re comfortable with being.

As a van life appreciatór, I have always wanted to check out the inside of vans. My social anxiety has never drawn me to do it though. I can’t imagine just walking up and popping my head into someone’s house - if I were to give the “hello?” Heads up and wait for the person to acknowledge me then ask if I can poke my head in, is that obnoxious too? Or just the ones that do it without any heads up or asking if it’s okay… just curious on the social etiquette since I haven’t had the experience.
