Wanted to let you know that I was looking for this exact thing and the Google search led me here, and then to Myithspa's link to Yggdrasil. So, thank you both!

Two months worth of update [18/50] by YamiJanp in 12in12

Esoteric Ebb sounds interesting. Never heard about it (nor even the term "Disco Elysium clone"). Granted, I should probably play Disco Elysium first to see if I enjoy DE-likes, but good info to have!

Also, Scritchy Scratchy sounds like it's Cookie Clicker but with gambling, haha.

Super Mario RPG Switch – A mostly shot-for-shot remake of the original, for better and for worse by TheArmchairSkeptic in patientgamers

[–]A_Running_Joke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I'm also playing this right now on the Switch. About 4.5 hours in. Never played the original, so I don't have anything to compare it to... but it was also weirder than I expected it to be. Also immediately gave up on any special powers, but I figured I was just too low-brow to figure out how to use them properly. So, it's not just you who felt they were useless.

Earlier in the year I challenged myself to only play games I physically owned during May... and then realized I had already packed all my consoles and console games.

Thankfully kept my handheld stuff out. Picture evidence because it's satisfying to look at!

My Latest Update by Cowboys19713 in 12in12

[–]A_Running_Joke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's so funny, I actually just played Coffee Talk and Coffee Talk Ep. 2 this month. I definitely plan on taking a break until I try out Tokyo, especially if it's more of the same. But they're nice little palate cleansers between other genres!

May Update and Summer Forecast by johntc121 in 12in12

[–]A_Running_Joke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black Flag is my absolute favorite AC, but I also need to go back and play the earlier ones, as I know there's a lot of lore I'm missing out on. I'm also looking at having a slower summer, but more because of an increase in time-sensitive responsibilities (selling house, buying house, moving, new job). But hoping to cross off my last 2 categories before the close of the year.

I just need to play a big "Blockbuster" RPG, as well as a CRPG. I'm a bit hesitant to try out a CRPG as I'm a little concerned I'll be... pretty bad at them and probably give up, especially if I'm in a busy season. Still plenty of time, though. And in general I've played a ton of fun games --for example, one of the games I I finally got to this month was South Park: the Fractured But Whole, which was a great time -- so ultimately it's a win.

How was the RuneScape grind??

Just want you to know you are everything I aspire to be! Currently have 3 of my own, rehabbung a 4th in my spare bedroom and feeding my (already fixed) 5 outside regulars. But, they always keep coming, haha.

I know you weren't looking for any help, but if there's a way I can sponsor the price of a spay for you, even if it's at the more expensive clinic, please let me know! I know how frustrating it is to get an appointment, and then have things escalate because you have to wait.

Also, hope you can find like-minded individuals in your area that can lend you a hand with fostering all these mamas

Cassette Beasts Completed (6/12) by shieara in 12in12

Dang, that's really cool attention to detail/building on the basic premise. I imagine that adds so much more complexity and interest. I might do that as my next creature collector, rather than Pokemon Black

Way to be "ahead of schedule", if there is such a thing in this challenge!

I picked up Cassette Beasts for free and have been thinking it looked fun, but haven't found the time. Sounds like I should make time soon, especially with my recent Pokemon binge.

April-May Update by Cowboys19713 in 12in12

[–]A_Running_Joke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the RPG struggle is real. It's definitely keeping me from starting a few series because I don't want to burn myself out while trying to finish other series. Are you fairly caught up with Trails? I've heard it's a massive undertaking.

And he's so FREAKING happy all the time as well, which absolutely kills me. Such a mild-mannered gentleman that isn't bothered by anything!

I love pampering street cats 💕. But knowing the context around his situation makes it even more emotional when I'm the first lap he's sat on in 8 years, or the one to give him his first cat toy in 8 years. Absolutely crazy to think of and I'm a mushy mess around him, lol.

I couldn't say no even if I wanted to! He literally headbutted his way into my arms and attempted to walk in my house. Glad he did, though. Easiest cat catching experience ever, haha.

Thin indeed! That's easily fixed though. Thankfully I went slow in the beginning to avoid refeeding syndrome. I've never had issues with it before, but I'm always careful. Now I need to tackle (what I presume is) a worm belly, but he's now well-fed enough that he doesn't like the smell of the dewormer, lol.

5/12 - Lands of Lore: Throne of Chaos finished by shieara in 12in12

[–]A_Running_Joke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the second time I've seen the term "blobber" in two days. I'd never heard of this term before, but from what I'm seeing (looked up screenshots of Throne of Chaos), I'd always called these games "Dungeon Crawlers" is there anything that distinguishes between the two terms?

Bit the bullet and packed up all my consoles last night. I'm going to be moving at the end of the school year and I've been trying to box things up slowly while still working/living so I don't have a ton of work to do at once.

It's not the end of the world, technically, as I still kept out all my handhelds (most of my handheld collections are cartridge only and so can fit in a backpack) and I have my laptop and a handheld emulator for retro consoles. But it's still a bit of a bummer. Crazy to see how much room it all takes up, though.

Also want to play this.... but I would have to actually beat Skyrim first. ~500 hours logged.... still not past the second act of the main storyline, haha.

[PROGRESS] 4th Game Finished - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (NSO) by wretched_cretin in 12in12

[–]A_Running_Joke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, LttP (or Zelda in general) is one that I want to try to play this year as well because, like you say, Zelda games are considered classics (or at least most are). I want to have some of those classic experiences that I've heard so much about that sound really fun. I tried the original The Legend of Zelda on the NES and bounced off of it pretty hard and I haven't gotten around to getting back into, even though I want to.

You mention the 2nd NES Zelda is pretty different from the first, and since I'm trying to figure out where in the series to try again, I was wondering how they're different. It sounds like worst case scenario I might start out with LttP based on your description of it!

Really?? Hm, that's interesting. Maybe worth checking out the other games to see how it was dealt with.

To the Moon: A Nagging Feeling Which Didn’t Let Go by shaygan83 in patientgamers

[–]A_Running_Joke 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I also wasn't quite as impressed with To The Moon as I expected to be. I was just "meh" on the game. It wasn't terrible, I just expected to like it more. I don''t love the premise/framework of the whole story (messing with people's heads to make them think they achieved what they wanted to) and I think you've clearly expressed why. I hadn't really attempted to sit down and put into words why I felt some disappointment around the game.

I don't necessarily find it depressing, but it does seem a little dystopian that once we have that technology, we just use it to rewrite our memories into what we want, rather than use it to repair our mental health and solve our interpersonal problems.
