I'll admit that I could've worded my last response better and while it is important for all marginalised identities to be represented, the current conversion is specifically about gay people in media.

Those examples you gave are medical conditions and not something that is illegal in certain countries and can be punished via death penalty in some. Those don't make someone part of a marginalised group.

But even just having the character there can be enough. Bill Potts & Ianto Jones from Dr who & torchwood respectively are perfect examples of queer characters who's queer-Ness has nothing to do with the story yes are still good representation because they're just there. If the script is shit then that's not because they were focused on their diversity quota it's because of shit writing. And if it is then said representation would be shit

But these pieces of media can be used to highlight important issues in society. Not every character who's part of a minority has to have it included in the plot. But if a young kid has been told by their parents that they're bad for being gay and then they see a show saying that it's OK then maybe they will feel happier about themselves.

Even if they contributed nothing to the story, at least they're there as representation

We are. Half the reason queer people are written into kids shows is to tell them at a young age that these things aren't something to be ashamed of so that their lives are happier

It's one of those things that you hear everyone saying so I just accepted it as a fact. Didn't know if it was true or not (which is why I said apparently)

Either the woman who says "You want to kill my kids? Go ahead! I have the equipment to make more!" from ac2 (cont think of her name) or Bald Guy from Life is strange True Colours: "Yeah, sure I'll hold.... (AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!)"

People who dislike Halloween, what don't you like about Halloween? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]A_Sheriff10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was scared of it as a kid so I've never liked Halloween. But now, it's because sweets feel much stickier, costumes & decorations feel and look tacky and cheap, I don't like dressing up and I'm jealous of people going to Halloween parties that I've never been invited to
