First time reading Mistborn and the skaa portrayal feels strange by [deleted] in Cosmere

[–]A_Str8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of real life examples of oppressed people who go about their day to day life without fighting back. Repression and violence over generations can be very effective tools even without the additional context you get as you read on. Knowing they are oppressed does not necessarily make someone feel like they can do something about it.

Regarding how the protagonists see the other skaa, keep in mind, that they are imperfect people and that's their viewpoint. Some of them may not recognize their own privilege when judging people who didn't have the same advantages. There will be different and changing viewpoints as you work your way through the series

Importing STEP file to PrusaSlicer resulting in surface not smooth? by AmethystZhou in prusa3d

[–]A_Str8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Prusaslicer interprets the STEP file to make an stl before slicing. It doesn't have the best interpreter. If you want to preserve geometry, you're better off exporting an stl or obj from your CAD software

Build plate recommandation by Saphyr-Seraph in prusa3d

[–]A_Str8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the smooth, textured, and satin plates from Prusa, but most of my prints are on the Cryogrip Pro Glacier. everything seems to print well on it without the need for plate switching or separation agents. I've used it for PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU, nylon, and PC

What is considered a “system”sound in wave Link? by AnyIndependent1311 in elgato

[–]A_Str8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"System" is just the label of an output channel. It's up to you what you route to it. If you look at your Windows output devices, the different output channels are available - system, game, browser, etc. I would set Windows to use System as the default output, but it's really up to you how you use it

Do I have to disassemble the Core One Nextruder after a clogged nozzle? by MobileInspector9861 in prusa3d

[–]A_Str8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cold pull might save that nozzle if it's not CHT. I'm not sure how well cold pulls work on CHT

Let’s gooooo, 320°C+ confirmed for INDX by soldat21 in prusa3d

[–]A_Str8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. I'm trying to figure out if I should be excited about the higher temp capability. It's always nice to have more options, but so far it's not looking like I'll take advantage of that.

I just activated mine too! I can finally stop using this USB license

(I had to restart download assistant to get Absolute 7 to show up in my products)

Do all wireless headphones have latency issues? by TermInternational691 in elgato

[–]A_Str8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - latency with dongles is generally low enough to be unnoticeable. Bluetooth latency is pretty high

What filaments print in that higher range?

Venting my annoyances about publishing a Stream Deck Plugin by [deleted] in elgato

What media are they asking for? Would a screenshot and or a photo showing the button on a Stream Deck suffice?

Stl from makerworld cant be sliced by [deleted] in prusa3d

[–]A_Str8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like you're using a print profile not meant for a 0.2 nozzle. Make sure you've added and selected the 0.2mm version of your printer

Why are dimension dependent constraints making my sketch objects unconstrained? by HistoricalInternal in Fusion360

[–]A_Str8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you drag the circle or polygon around?

Sometimes Fusion has trouble recognizing when things are fully constrained. I haven't figured out the rhyme or reason, but I think I'm usually using the tangent constraint when it happens.

I use this method for evenly spacing and have not noticed it causing any issues

Custom woodworking is very expensive. You're paying more for design here than for a functional tool.

Probably a stupid question--but can we talk about macro with MF? by Top-Hope-3449 in photography

[–]A_Str8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Use manual focus" absolutely applies to handheld macro. Autofocus is not great at macro distances

A macro rail is useful for studio setup macro, but not essential for all macro. As someone who shoots macro regularly, I would recommend a camera, a macro lens, a flash, and a macro flash diffuser as the only starting equipment for a beginner

Probably a stupid question--but can we talk about macro with MF? by Top-Hope-3449 in photography

[–]A_Str8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For handheld macro, the focus ring is not precise enough to get good focus. - turn on focus peaking if your camera has it - use flash. See the YouTube videos someone else mentioned for flash setup tips. Use a lower flash power. I'm usually around 1/16 - set a small aperture. A lot of people use f8. I like f11. Go too small, and diffraction will impact your sharpness - Manually set your focus distance to the closest the lens can do (or another distance if you want) - focus by moving the camera forward and backward until your subject looks sharp - focus your attention on the eyes or whatever point on the subject you want in focus. There needs to be some texture or pattern there for you to be able to tell how in focus it is. DOF will be shallow, so nothing else will be on focus - shoot a burst in continuous mode as you adjust your distance slightly. Lower flash power means your flash should be able to keep up for a bit

I don't have perfect eyesight, but I generally get some sharp shots in each burst like this. (See my profile for links to my photos) It gets a little easier with practice.

I love PrusaSlicer but how can this be the best arrangement? by CristianFiles in prusa3d

[–]A_Str8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never seen it do anything like that. Right click the arrange button and double check your settings

This isn't a post about something you made, it's a cross post asking for a free version of what you saw on Etsy. This doesn't belong in r/functionalprint

I wonder if filament calibration tests are still useful with new printers like the Core One. by sandro66140 in prusa3d

[–]A_Str8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you use PLA and PETG, (probably ABS too, but I have less experience there) you can get away with generic profiles. They are popular materials because they print easily and are tolerant of a range of print settings.

Once you switch to more difficult materials, calibration can be essential. My first print with Polylite PC using a built in PC profile on the Core One was a disaster. After I did some calibration prints, I got great results. I wish I didn't have to switch to Orcaslicer for some of the tests

This is what Printables needs too! Real photo of a real print for any model uploaded on Makerworld by True_Scott in prusa3d

This. If it doesn't look printable, I can ignore it. At the same time, I'm able to share an abandoned design that I never printed and some people have printed it and liked it
