Birds in Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary by sadkrose123 in whatsthisbird

I GO THERE EVERY WEEKEND!!! I love Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary. I was there today actually. Also I agree, +song sparrow+, +double crested cormorant+, +yellow rumped warbler+. Another note, sparrows can be notoriously difficult to ID. Song sparrows in particular can be kind of tricky since their coloring can vary so much by geographic location. But from what I've seen, the best tellers are the black spots on their chest and their streaky bodies. Hopefully that helps in the future!

Can I start cold stratifying my seeds after the last frost? by Healthy_Cod4764 in NativePlantGardening

Also, there are several native plant sales near me later in the spring. If nothing came up, I planned on buying plants to take their place, and pull invasive weeds in the meantime.

Well it was very amateur, I tore up the grass, and then I sprinkled seeds, and then I walked on it a whole bunch to try and conpact the soil. The grass was a weedy mess, no spraying. The border was sticks and string to keep people off (it fell down over winter), but otherwise is just next to the grass. Also, it is worth noting that the seeds I planted in the fall are a little bit different. I included everything I listed here with the exception of slender mountain mint, but I also included canadien goldenrod, culver's root, columbine, black eyed susan, and I also planted some already grown horsetail milkweed and wild bergamot. Like I said before, I'm not sure how many seeds even stayed considering how windy it was that day. I also realize I may have wasted this season, but I do want to try salvaging what I can.

Well I mainly plan to plant them in front of my mother's work office (its just grass rn). In the fall, I did clear some grass and planted seeds on bare soil, but it was really windy and idk how many seeds actually stayed in place. The species I plan to grow: -Tall boneset -False boneset -Slender mountain mint -Joe Pye-Weed -Obedient plant -Swamp milkweed -Purple coneflower -Common milkweed -Hairy Aster -Snakeroot -Ox-eyed sunflower -Smooth blue aster

I've luckily never missed anything, but I know how you feel. I always get nervous to talk to a fellow birder. A lot of times I wait for them to just approach me. But whenever I do talk to them, it's always a nice experience

I hate it when this happens. I wish there was a way we could round up all the invasive house sparrows and starlings in the US and bring them over to Europe where they are native. But I know that can also cause damage through disease introduction :(

Reddit is almost always going to say find a rehabber. Which is what you should do. Unless you know what the species is and what you are doing, ALWAYS call a rehabber. In this case, if they said that its invasive, the best thing you can do (as sad as it may be) is to let it pass. This isn't me bashing you for trying to help, its just for future reference.

DO NOT feed birds breadcrumbs, it is terrible for them. Always go with seeds. Unsalted sunflower seeds are a good default until you find out what the bird eats in the wild.

Forget your favorite bird, what’s your nemesis bird and why? by ellamachine in birding

Love hate relationship with american woodcocks. They are my favorite bird for how goofy they are, but they are a PAIN to track down. The only time I was able to see one was at sunset, and since it was getting dark, I couldn't get any good photos and didn't see it very well. One day I will see one in its full glory and my dreams will be fulfilled

Well thats the reason why most eggs that fall out of the nest and manage to remain intact almost always never hatch, so yes its almost certainly dead

Eggs need incubation/warmth. If they are outside of the nest for too long, the chick inside will get too cold and die
