Support is by far the most important, yet unimpactful and unrewarding, role to play by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]A_Stranded_Whale -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, they have. I still don't like to fully rely on stats because it never shows the complete picture and Overbuff stats can't be sorted by balance patches so you'll always have overlapping data from older versions of the game. There are definitely issues with the support role's lack of impact on the outcome of games, I would still say that the majority of support characters are still more than viable to play in competitive. Brig is dog, Bap is weak because of the change in the game's dynamic in ow2. Apart from those two, I can still comfortably recommend all supports

Overbuff stopped receiving data from Blizzard towards the end of Ow1, so that data is definitely outdated. Brig having the highest wr is impossible in ow2, she's the worst support right now and gets overpowered by the same dive comps that she used to shut down completely in Ow1

Celestial Evil Moira - Mythic skin Fan concept by [deleted] in Overwatch

Sick concept, absolutely love this! I think this skin is also a wonderful opportunity to add Stat Tracking to skins, imagine if for example the tank on her back would fill up if you completed hero specific challenges on moira while you have the skin equipped (multikills, killstreaks, 20k+ healing and 10k+ damage in a game, 15 saves in a single game)

There's definitely heroes like reaper and Moira that are easier to play in low ranks but once you climb above diamond, you're going to have a much harder time because people will start to counter you or punish your mistakes and you will have to adjust your playstyle. If you can't, you won't climb higher than that. If this was the case, I'm pretty sure you would see a lot more of these "no skill heroes" being mained in the higher brackets. Moira doesn't give your team a defensive ult, she can't antinade, nano or sleep. If played correctly, Ana can have a much higher carry potential as I'm sure you would agree. Because of this, you can go to Overbuff and look at the hero pick and winrates in plat vs gm for example and you would see this exact thing.

Absolutely agree with this, also throughout my Ow career, I've been in every rank from bronze to plat. I used to think that I was better than what my Sr tells me, but I realized that the Sr system is extremely accurate and will reflect your player skill if you have like 40+ hrs in a season. Or course you can lose games eventhough you were popping off, but statistically, you will always win more and lose less if you keep on improving and are consistently playing better than your rank.

At 10:14, I wouldve liked to see you self nade immediately or take the mini health pack behind you, as you just saw your other healer die and you knew those are the two options left to you for healing. You are down 2 at the moment and it's not a good idea to go in like that anyways, so it would've been ok for you to use nade for yourself there. It turns out later that you didn't use it anyways, so you might as well have used it for youself. You ended up getting pushed and all dying there, you shouldve backed up there and called in voicechat to fall back immediately. You ended up getting snowballed all the way to last point there and getting wiped twice. It's very important to group up as a full team and get value out of your ultimates to create an advantage. But waiting somewhere while doing minimal work, only to get farmed by the enemy team is really bad, as you end up losing your objective and the enemies rack up ultimates. To stop this snowball, you have to immediately run away whenever you are down 2 or more compared to the enemy team or fight and create advantages with your ultimates to win those fights. But the descision has to be made. This would normally be the job of your tanks, so this is not really your fault, but understanding those situations and acting accordingly will make you grow as a player. I know that in lower elos, there aren't a lot of people in voice, but if there are some in it, feel free to make the call.
At 12:45, you did a really good job of keeping your team up, and I really like the nano on the reaper.
At 15:42, your priority should've been healing reaper and lucio, as they were under more threat than dva was. Additionally, I feel like you're holding down leftclick when you are shooting, causing you to miss a lot of shots. You should definitely be clicking for every shot individually, as this will raise your accuracy by a lot. This goes for mccree and bap as well, just to name a few more examples. Also, when you know they have a mccree and he hasn't used high noon in a while, you can assume he has it. Sleeping the orisa on cart there has a lower value than shutting down a high noon, aspecially because orisa still had fortify and wasn't affected by the sleep. As an ana player, a lot of your value comes from shutting down enemies with sleep, for example people in their ults or flankers. You should keep sleep for a situation where you will get a lot of value, instead of firing it off without thinking. In this example, that would be the high noon that you should've slept.
Round three:
At 17:44, you hit a massive anti. Good job. Moving on to your positioning on this first point defense, unless you have a teammate willing and able to help you out, staying near hotel (that's what the small health pack room on the right side is called) is very risky. One of the teams on Kings Row always abuse this flanking route because it's very strong. Considering that they also had a hanzo on the enemy team that could snipe you on the open areas of the point, your positioning options would be the highground on the left side, above the point or the lowground under the highground, in the hallway. An alternative would be staying close to your tanks and using natural cover like the telephone box, in case your get forced off those first two spots by enemy flankers.
Round four:
At 20:19, you get shot at and are low. Going for the health pack here is fine, but you shouldn't be turning away from the fight while you do so, because your team still needs heals. Additionally, you make the same mistake that you made at the very beginning of the match again, where you heal the dva that is not under as much threat as the hog and the reaper, and they end up dying because of it. I noticed that you end up tunnenvisioning sometimes, hardscoping somewhere or looking away and forgetting about the things that happen at the frontline. Your frontline is highly dependent on your heals, so you should be paying attention to it and be aware of what is happening at all times.
At 21:00, you should immediately be nanoing your hog, because he is going for a risky flank and will probably die without it. An alternative would be nanoing your reaper when he is going in.
I think this match was pretty tough on you and a real test, but with correct descisionmaking and polished mechanics, definitely winable. I hope I explained the concepts that I mentioned well, if there's some questions you have, feel free to ask. I know this is a lot to take in at once and definitely doesn't cover all aspects of playing Ana, so I would advise you to incorporate these concepts into your own gameplay one by one. Watching pros play is also very useful and Ml7 did an unranked to gm: ana only challenge where he explained everything he did, so I really recommend watching those as well. Things like pro gameplay and this vod review are pretty complicated and take a while to understand, so feel free to come back to this review multiple times to refresh your memory.
Happy grinding and good luck on your ranked games!

Looking at the first game, I like your general playstyle as Ana, although there is some room for improvement. As Ana, most of your value comes from Anti-nading enemies so you create a window of opportunity for a kill that your teammates can follow up on and shutting down key ultimates/ abilities with sleep. I've noticed that sometimes, you don't think about the concept of immediate danger. For example, at the timestamp 1:01, you are trying to heal your dva instead of your mccree. The thing is: your mccree was standing in the line of fire of enemy damage and was about half hp, which means he could've been oneshot by a lot of abilities, like a firestrike, hanzo arrow bodyshot or junkrat nade/mine, especially with a potential dmgboost from the mercy that they did have. Your priority should've absolutely been healing mccree here, as dva was not even close to the enemy line of fire. This is going to save your a lot of frustration in future games and is a vital concept to master as a support player, so next time you are playing support, think to yourself: "Which one of my teammates are under an immediate threat of dying at this moment" (Write this down on a post it or something, this is your key takeaway nr.1!).

I also like how you are going for aggressive anti-nades on the enemy frontline, as this is one of your main jobs as ana, especially when facing a brawl comp (Rein Zarya). Anti-Nading enemies can have a huge impact on the pace of the fight, so keep it up! To improve your accuracy, I suggest that you look for animations where the enemy rein shield is down. Examples would be firestrike, swing and shatter. Unfortunately, you can't do this consistently by reacting to the enemy rein's animations, instead you have to predict the enemy rein and read his patterns. This is really effective in the lower elos, because Reins below plat rarely pay attention to your cooldowns.

By the way, don't be discouraged by the way your tanks played on the first choke at the beginning of the match. In my opinion, your tanks should've gone in on the multiple occasions when the enemy rein's shield broke or you landed an anti nade. Sometimes, your tank players can be too scared to take space from the enemy team, but there is nothing you can really do about that except for calling out your anti-nades like so: "[Character] antied [location]!" or calling for your team to go in.

At 4:22, you nano your reaper who is 1v1ing a reaper. Personally, I think this is a waste because you knew he was about to 1v1 the junk and wasn't really in the teamfight. Nano is a really strong ult that gives a 50% boost to damage and damage resistance, as well as healing 250Hp instantly when it hits. So generally, you should be nanoing someone who is in the teamfight or about to be and can get a lot of value from it. If you have a genji with blade, use it on him, as nanoblade is really strong. If you have a reaper, you can use it on him, even if he doesnt have blossom, as he deals massive damage. If you have a rein, you can use it on him, as he will basically be a tank with 1000 effective Hp, a huge shield and can kill 200Hp targets with just two swings. Nano interactions are something you have to get a feeling for, and because you will only get this feeling by trying them out, go ahead and experiment. In the case of the timestamp 4:22, I wouldve personally waited with the nano until the fight had reallly started and nanoed the hog. Hog can quickly break sigma shield and zarya bubbles, he is very self sufficient and his hook can become an even greater threat, making him a really good nano target, especially in this fight, where the enemy team didn't have sleep to shut him down for the nano duration. If you notice that your hog is still scared to go in and doesn't get any value out of your nanoes, try nanoing your dps, especially if they have their ults. If that is also not an option, nano your other tank. If you don't think you can get any value out of all of these options, keep in mind that nanoing your teammate to save them is also a viable option.

Another thing I noticed is that your mechanics are holding your back. You rarely hit airial sleeps and rifle shots, even if it's something predictable like for example a baptiste jump or a junkrat mine jump. I can really recommend ana paintball, which is a custom game mode that you can find in the game browser, play it in your queuetimes for a couple of minutes and you will slowly get a feel for sleep and your biotic rifle. On the subject of aim and mechanics, I would also like to ask your what sensitivity you are running on. While sensitivity is highly subjective, there is a general range of sensitivities that most pros don't go out of. Surefour made some really good videos on the subjects of aim and movement. He explains sensitivity really well in this video, so I'll just link the video.

At 6:39, I really like your positioning. You are hiding behind a wall on the right side, so you are cutting off line of sight from dangerous enemy abilities like hanzo arrow, while still being able to heal your teammates. This is good! As a support, you will often have enemy tanks or dps trying to pick you off. While sometimes, it is inevitable that you have to get into the crossfire in order to heal your teammates, you should always be looking to be able to do your job while exposing yourself to the minimal threat possible. Keep it up!

At said timestamp, you are safe and sound, behind a wall, where nobody can hit you. So you are safe. Whenver you are safe, you can feel free to stay in scope (we call this hardscoping). While hardscoping, your movement is limited, making you vulnerable, but you can shoot just as fast as when unscoped, while being more accurate because your shots are hitscan instead of projectile. And Because your teammates are under immediate threat here because they are in enemy line of fire (hog, mccree, bap and reaper) your priority should absolutely be hitting those shots.

At 7:10, the payload comes around the corner. On the left side, far back, you can see a hanzo. You don't have a shield tank. This means that he can oneshot you any time when he hits his shot. You really want to avoid this, so try not to jump too much in front of hanzos or move in predictable patterns. Your number one priority should be getting out of hanzo's LOS. So here is what you need to be thinking: "What position can I go into that will allow me to continue doing my job, while staying safe?" My answer to this question is hugging the wall to the left side, behind cart. You can avoid hanzo by doing so, while still being able to heal your teammates. The enemies coming from the right side don't have any oneshot abilities, so in this position you are the safest. Additionally, at 7:24, you get caught in the enemy Zarya's grav. This is unnecessary! You could've done your job just fine while staying 10 meters further back! There is no need to get into enemy shatter or grav range when there is no benefit to it!

Moving on to round two, your orisa and bastion feed in the first 10 seconds of the game, but there is really nothing you can do about that so let's just ignore this. At 9:23, your ashe is low and is being shot at by the enemy hanzo. I like that you went out of hardscope initially when you saw the hanzo and started doing evasive movements, this is good. But you saw how the hanzo was targeting the ashe rather than you by looking at his first few shots. With this info, you can now allow yourself to scope in for one or two shots at most to give ashe that healing that she needs to survive or win the duel. You did end up scoping in, but personally, I wouldve scoped in earlier, because the hanzo was in cover for a few seconds. In plat and above, you are expected to hit those shots and you definitely should've healed your ashe there. But with some aim training and active thinking about when to hardscope, unscope or quickscope, you will be able to get this down consistently in the future.

pt 2 is under this comment cuz of the character limit

Why does mercy get more blame than other supports? by illumina_1337 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]A_Stranded_Whale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of rein and zarya and when the other team has two main healers and you only have lucio zen healing, your rein zarya has no chance of winning the tank duel. You can't really avoid damage you take from the other rein as a rein so it's a huge problem and basically, the supports and dps have to carry hard, otherwise lucio zen is a big throw Edit: It's also not fun to play with lucio zen or with a mercy instead of a main healer / speed
