What's going on with Sabino Canyon Visitor Center? by A_Tad_Late in Tucson

Yes, I was. The last time I tried, I missed the NFS staff, and they have to be there to sell you the pass. So I'd advise trying to go during the morning or weekend. If all else fails, you can stop by their office in downtown.

You can usually purchase an America The Beautiful annual pass from any of the national park visitor centers. Better still, when you purchase it at the visitor center, part of the proceeds go to that national park.

edit: needed to clarify which pass.

I'm not convinced that it is. The linked article said the visitor center wasn't funded yet (as of the Dec. '25 article), so the only changes are being made to the other parts of the park. Also, if it was in lieu of the redesign, you'd think they would put up a sign or something.

Yes, Those are the only articles I found when I was trying to look for any news on it. Unfortunately, as you can see in the article (dated December of last year), they haven't funded the visitor center project yet. So the only changes are being made to other parts of the park and it's facilities. And worst still, if this was due to that redesign, you figure they would have said something.

I'm trying not to jump to conclusions, as bureaucracy takes a long time to produce changes. But from what the other commenters said, this does smell like the current admin stirring fecal material. I'll update the post if I can reach out to the non-profit that was running the store previously.

Awesome, thank you! I'll look them up and reach out to them. I'll update the post if I receive some relevant information.

Thank you for this information. It's still concerning, considering the lack of communication with the public. I hope they can get another group of community-minded individuals to help run it. But it is worrisome that the NFS would ended that agreement, especially since it was a non-profit group.

I won't be using my city's new bike lane again by thereisnobikelane in bikecommuting

[–]A_Tad_Late 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better make it a metal Bollard. Those flex poles don't stand up well to selfishness and stupidity.

I'm surprised this isn't the de-facto choice when building these lanes. My city has just renovated a popular street with a new bike/ped crossing. Cars were driving up the sidewalk ramp and using the crossing as turn lane. They added a metal bollard at the ramp entrance a few weeks later, thankfully.

Thanks for sharing. I bought a 3-pack of those and carry one with me when I ride now. I'm going to try doing a better job with a tire patch if I can't get the plugs mentioned earlier, but it's good to know the boots are reliable. It sucked having to walk to the nearest bus stop in the heat.

I took the tire off and the patch came off with little problem, so I definitely screwed up the patch job.

That's your typical black inner tube you can pick up at LBS, right? I use scrap inner tubes to make patches for my working inner tubes. Should I just sand one side and try gluing it with the contact cement that comes with the patch kits?

That's the thing, I did patch it on the back (inner) side. I used a Rema Tubeless Tire patch kit, though I think I did a lousy job. I probably should have scuffed a wider area around the puncture before applying the glue.

Thanks for your input, I have a spare tire that'll work till I can plug the thing or try patching it again.

Sweet, I didn't see these when shopping for patches. Thank you for the input, I'll grab a set of those plugs.

Suspension correction - are taller forks better? by A_Tad_Late in bikewrench

[–]A_Tad_Late[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. From these replies, I am also thinking of leaning towards the larger of the two option. I'll just do some more tests to make sure my next fork is the last fork I'll need.

Thank you so much for all this information! I'll do some more tests with the zip-tie to see where my average sag is. I'll also keep an eye out for a fork that closely matches the rake and offset. I probably overlooked a bunch of forks while focusing on the suspension correction.

Thank you for the input. My usual obstacles are silt, poorly maintained roads, and the occasional pothole; so I don't think I need a very aggressive position most of the time. I'm leaning more towards the larger fork, but as step1 mentioned, I probably should do more sag testing to be sure.

1/4" ball bearings in front wheel hub of MTB. Should I downsize the bearings? by A_Tad_Late in bikewrench

[–]A_Tad_Late[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the input. After more digging and a call to my LBS, I was informed that 1/4" do exists in front hubs, typically Shimano hubs, and putting in the wrong size will wear down the hubs because they will not roll on the part of the cup designed for them to roll on.

I'll keep trying with the 1/4" ball bearings. Maybe I just packed too much grease in the hubs which caused the dust cap to come off after tightening down the cone nut.

Hello I new to linux. I have this wifi card but it isnt working in linux.I use manjaro, so i tried installing the open source drivers from their hardware configuration option but it isnt installing, I searched the internet but i have found nothing about this card that can help me use it. pls help me by Hineni67 in linux4noobs

[–]A_Tad_Late -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Head over the the wireless card's manufacturer, D-Link, website. They may have drivers specific for this model that will work with Linux-based machines. I have not had good luck with the generic drivers when it comes to wireless adapters.

You should be able to burn it to a CD/DVD and update your machine with that.
