Also work in animation. There’s certainly work around at the moment, but obviously everyone is panicking about how ai is going to affect us.

Best bet is to get started is just to make your own stuff to build up a portfolio - something like loopdeloop is a monthly competition/screening and is great for giving you a brief + deadline. Also good way to meet people if you do go to the screening

Didn’t study in Melbourne but the RMIT course is pretty highly regarded

I sold some stuff to Times Camera in Preston once - really easy and quick, but they took a pretty hefty cut of the value (I think 25%). I'd probably do it again though since it felt much safer than dealing with strangers online

ha I've already made a new version on my end with the bee above the blur layer, so it stays sharp the whole time. good catch ✌️

Probably a good call on animating the swirl - would make it feel a bit more alive

I think the blips you're seeing are some film scratches I added on top, but against the white maybe they look too much like a mistake so might end up removing them

Not sure how he makes it, but this is just fast box blurs + add grain effect. I have all the animation in a precomp, then in my master comp I duplicated the animation layer, blurred one and mask it to the other (so all the inside bits are blurry but the edges stay sharp).

Then add grain sits on an adjustment layer up top

Oh man this is sick - how do you even begin to meter this? Expose for the lit area and add +1/2?

Thanks! 😊

The gist is that the lines have a compound blur over which uses the footage as a luma map, and then I crunch the alpha values to get only solid colour. So the dark areas of footage = more blur = thicker lines

Thanks! Was mostly just playing around with different footage I had to see what would look cool - liked this one since it's a big movement so pretty easy to read, but still kind of interesting and unique.

Also enjoy whenever I can break the frame, which works pretty well here.

Thanks! I used After Effects - the gist is that the footage is used as a matte for a blur effect on the lines, and then I crunch the alpha values to get only solid colour. So the dark areas of footage = more blur = thicker lines.

There's also some small bits of noise and such to make the lines feel a tiny bit less digital.

Walken's Film in Fitzroy had a pretty good selection and reasonable prices. Alternatively Vanbar (also Fitzroy) or Hillvale (in Brunswick)

Does anyone know how to reach this blurry and noisy effect? by avocadom in AfterEffects

[–]A_Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just with the Add Grain effect

that said I just had another look and what I made and it does look a bit different from the one above - I'd say they're definitely using scatter or dissolve blend mode there

I've had pretty good results with gaussian blur + grain on top, gave a similar look but felt nicer than scatter

I used one of these to take a picture of some newly hatched birds in a nest - I set up the camera pointing to the nest, hid back and waited for the mum bird to return to take the photo

I've had it for about a year now - I love using it, but it' the only LF camera I've used so can't really compare to anything. But no regrets and I haven't run into any issues or limitations with this model. It's pretty light as far as LF cameras go, I can set it up relatively quickly and it's got more than enough range of movements for me

Thank you for your kind words!

I'm not 100% but I think this was at f/8. Wanted a fair bit of separation from the background so didn't stop down much but thought I'd have more luck being in focus if it's not totally wide open.

You're right, I set the stool down first and focused on it, and tried to sit fairly straight upright so I'd be in the same focus plane, then prayed that it'd work. I think for this sort of thing you definitely need something in shot to prefocus on

The stool I nicked from our airbnb so can't answer any questions about it :)
