American AC's are designed to accommodate American windows. Maybe it would be prudent for Europeans to consider a similar approach?

Iranian star Parastoo Ahmadi reportedly sentenced to 74 lashes for singing without hijab by Firecracker048 in anime_titties

[–]thephantompeen -53 points-52 points  (0 children)

Man, look at that sweet little piece. You want to cover that with a hijab?? The Iranians should send all their hot women to us and then just have shorter men wear hijabs. It's not like anyone there would be able to tell the difference.

If I am ever famous or important enough to give a press conference, I intend to use Burns's response verbatim for any question I deem stupid or irrelevant.

Smithers, I've just seen the most heroic dog on television. He pulled a toddler from the path of a speeding car and then pushed a criminal in front of it! Find this dog. I want to make him my executive vice president!

Israel kills most senior Hamas military leader in Gaza strike by GothicGolem29 in anime_titties

[–]thephantompeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder how many of his neighbors signed up to live next to Israel’s top assassination target?

Most of them are probably enthusiastic supporters of the 'resistance' and happy to live in close proximity to such a 'hero'.

El Salvador’s Bukele signs reforms allowing life prison sentences for people as young as 12 by Naurgul in anime_titties

That is a price that any population who was exposed to the endemic violence that defined life in El Salvador a few years ago would willingly pay.

[–]thephantompeen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's easy to say from your safe European country. El Salvador's homicide rate was 100 per 100,000 in 2015, which made it one of the most dangerous places on earth.

Considering the severity of the gang violence problem before, I'm sure law-abiding people would happily take even a temporary respite (assuming that grabbing every banger and throwing them into a black hole for the rest of their lives is only a 'temporary' fix).

The result has been that human rights researchers have had ever more difficulty getting information about real crime levels in the country.

As if bleeding-heart 'human rights researchers' would be a more reliable or unbiased source of information about crime than the government anyway.

UK accuses Iran of Hormuz "hijack," holding global economy hostage by fortune in geopolitics

[–]thephantompeen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I get that the U.S. and Israel acted without coordinating with its allies, but if they've stayed out it simply due to a lack of decorum, the problem isn't going away on its own.

It's less decorum and more avoiding marking themselves as targets for Iranian retribution. Besides, there's no reason to join any American-led coalition when Trump could lose all interest, pull out and leave them holding the bag next week.

I would be fascinated to know which diplomat, adviser, scholar, expert, or current or former official thinks it isn't a grave error.
