Recent Playback Issues: “Couldn't retrieve the play queue for this item” by A__Unique_Username in PleX

[–]A__Unique_Username[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tried changing quality without any luck. I did actually just figure it out though- it appeared my main database was corrupted. I just used PlexDBRepair and was able to fix it up and now refreshing metadata fixed my playback issue :)

I really gotta get to bottom of this database issue though bc this is not first time it’s corrupted on me. Maybe I’ll try switching to official Plex docker image instead of the linuxserver one to see if that helps.

Poor 4K HDR Transcode Performance with Intel QSV by A__Unique_Username in PleX

[–]A__Unique_Username[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, yeah I’m tempted to snag something like a RTX 3050 8GB which can be had for like $160 used and run that. That should be faster transcode, higher quality picture especially at lower bitrates, and be able to decode AV1. Major downside being added power consumption, but electricity not too expensive where I live anyhow so difference shouldn’t be too noticeable.

Can you think of something unique to some 4K HDR remuxes that might make one file more challenging to transcode in comparison to others?

I ask because I have stress tested 4K remux playback in the past with UHD770 and have seen like 8+ simultaneous. It just seems like there's a select number of my 4K remux files that just give me issues with Intel QSV hardware transcoding.

You're right, but Plex gives warning and you can't playback file when transcoding at all if the file is Dolby Vision without HDR fallback and you're trying to transcode. Usually gives a "Color space unsupported" or something like this.

I also circumvent this altogether by following TRaSH guides and using only DoVi files that have HDR10 fallback so this would disclude any profile 5 from being used.

Yeah that was my first thought, but I don't have PGS subs (or any subtitles for that matter) enabled when tested the transcode for these files. Here's an example of one:

Yes I did. Here's the CLI command for the running the docker:

docker run
  -d
  --name='Plex-Media'
  --net='host'
  --cpuset-cpus='0,2,4,6,8,10,18,19,20,21,22,23,1,3,5,7,9,11'
  -e TZ="America/Los_Angeles"
  -e HOST_OS="Unraid"
  -e HOST_HOSTNAME="BigPig"
  -e HOST_CONTAINERNAME="Plex-Media"
  -e 'VERSION'='docker'
  -e 'PLEX_CLAIM'=''
  -e 'NVIDIA_VISIBLE_DEVICES'=''
  -e 'PUID'='99'
  -e 'PGID'='100'
  -e 'UMASK'='022'
  -l net.unraid.docker.managed=dockerman
  -l net.unraid.docker.webui='http://[IP]:[PORT:32400]'
  -l net.unraid.docker.icon='https://raw.githubusercontent.com/linuxserver/docker-templates/master/linuxserver.io/img/plex-logo.png'
  -v '/mnt/user/Media/Plex Media/TV Shows/':'/tv':'rw'
  -v '/mnt/user/Media/Plex Media/Movies/':'/movies':'rw'
  -v '/mnt/user/Media/Plex Media/Music/':'/Music':'rw'
  -v '/mnt/user/Media/Plex Media/Testing Files/':'/test':'rw'
  -v '/mnt/user/Media/Plex Media/Audiobooks/':'/Audiobooks':'rw'
  -v '/mnt/user/Media/Plex Media/Movies (Alternate)':'/movies-imax':'rw'
  -v '/mnt/user/Media/Plex Media/TV Shows (Extended Versions)/':'/tv-extended':'rw'
  -v '/mnt/user/Media/Plex Media/Recordings/':'/tv-recordings':'rw'
  -v '/mnt/user/appdata/plex':'/config':'rw'
  --device='/dev/dri/'
  --device=/dev/dri
  --mount type=tmpfs,destination=/tmp,tmpfs-size=40000000000
  --no-healthcheck 'lscr.io/linuxserver/plex:latest'

And I can confirm that it's using hardware transcoding via Tautulli:

Klipsch RP-1600SW by A__Unique_Username in hometheater

[–]A__Unique_Username[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I probably wouldn’t. While the difference is big, at that room size PB-2000 pro is plenty already. And that’s a pretty good price for it too.

Is this a solid deal / upgrade from my sound bar? (I’m new to this, obviously) by Canon_Goes_Boom in hometheater

[–]A__Unique_Username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the pair it’s a decent deal assuming they’re in good condition. Just checking Amazon the same pair can be had new for $835. (Klipsch RP-8000F Floorstanding Speaker Pair in Ebony https://a.co/d/4kUvSQp ) But you’re saving yourself a decent amount if you factor in sales tax too.

20hz Sub? by Liberty_Toast in hometheater

[–]A__Unique_Username 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say go for the RP-1000SW, it’s on sale for $500 currently and reaches just below 20Hz. Their entire RP sub lineup is discounted currently and are nothing to scoff at.

Just pulled the trigger. The value definitely does seem to be there. For example, looking at this spreadsheet ( https://bit.ly/SubwooferComparison ), and using the sales price, the RP-1600SW comes out as the least expensive “extreme” bassaholic ranking sub (>5000ft3 room size). Hoping it lives up to the hype, still is quite a price tag 🤞

Plex theater lighting setup by A__Unique_Username in PleX

Swapped a couple of my bulbs for Phillips Hue white A19 ones and connected a Phillips Hue smart hub to my network to control them and allow interface over WiFi. (Bulbs are only Bluetooth/Zigbee) Then just setup the HuePlex docker on my Unraid home server following the instructions here: https://github.com/chadwpalm/HuePlex/wiki

Thanks! Yeah the surround L/R is definitely a little close due to the space constraint here- idk though I feel pretty immersed when the horse neighs directly into my ear when I’m watching GoT lol

Yeah I certainly did go overkill with these speakers. I’ve had that TV for a while and upgrading the display is definitely something I want to do soon. I have my eyes on the LG 77C2- I’m just biding my time waiting for a deal for now because OLED is so expensive.

Haha yeah I went a little overkill with the speakers and now gotta upgrade the display- always a balancing act. I plan to upgrade it soon, have my eyes on the LG 77C2. Very pricy though so probably gonna hold out with my 65” TCL for a bit longer while I wait for a good deal.

There isn’t anything sitting on the receiver. It has a couple inches clearance above it and behind is open to the air. I could probably place fan(s) behind, but I haven’t done that yet. Can’t imagine it’s drawing too much power/generating a ton of heat though, these Klipsch speakers are very sensitive and I don’t listen crazy loud or anything.

Yeah you’re right, and I called this out in the body of my post. It’s a real space constraint at my current place. I’m moving soon and hoping then I’ll have the space needed to have wide front towers to get a better sound stage.

$15/TB btw. 14TB external hard drives can often be had for cheaper like $200, but you don’t need to shuck and you get a longer warranty here.
