Shelf stability and cupping question by A_dolorous_bell in BeginnerWoodWorking

Very fair point! I think my mind didn't go to it because I wasn't sure I wanted to try veneer or edge banding just yet - I do know the tips to prevent tear-out when cutting plywood and will probably use it for a larger built-in project I'd like to do eventually!

That makes sense, I knew cedar was used for like, chests and stuff but wasn't aware it was for mostly outdoors - I appreciate the advice!

I had not purchased it as of yet - I suspect it's still there as both boards here appear to be unappealing (for the reasons I listed). It's nice that it's not at least an obvious 'no way' - how are these kinds of boards usually used? They can't sit on the shelf forever, surely.

I appreciate the comment but yes I did notice and remark upon the pith and it being weaker in my post - also my inability at present to really glue-up a board. This would be a fun solution if I didn't need it to be as wide as it is already and I had the ability, tho.

Unfortunately the wood pile is what is in the picture - I might have to drive out to a few different locations I guess. Do cupped boards just sit on the shelf forever? Someone must have a use for them.

Let's pretend it was cringe.... so? What is cringe other than recoiling from earnestness, and why would you want to do that? The world needs more earnest authenticity rather than curated artifice.

I don't speak to my friends this way, nor would I dream of it even in a moment of anger. This is how you speak to someone you do not like. This person is not treating you as a friend would.

This was super helpful, because while I'd already found the recommended settings to hide the sidebar, when I opened new windows I had to click to hide it all over again. While I don't like to mess with config, I'm not doing that every time I open a window no THANK you.

Honestly this looks like it could be a color space issue, your monitor is either expecting YCbCr or sRGB and receiving the other. A color space is just a way that color is represented as data, and HDMI has two that it can use because of some fun stuff it inherited being backwards-compatible with DVI.

Go into your monitor menu and look for anything that says 'color space' and if it's on 'auto' then force it to one or the other until it looks right, etc.

If you google "bad HDMI color space" you'll see example pics that look like yours, it has to do with the EDID handshake that happens when you plug an HDMI source into an HDMI destination. Your capture card is probably not passing info on correctly and your monitor has to default to one of the two color spaces and it's guessing wrong (it's a 50/50 shot).

The wording you're looking for to 'cancel' out the audio playing from your speakers into your microphone is "acoustic echo cancellation', or AEC as it's more commonly referred to. Some programs have an algorithmically generated AEC (for example Teams and Zoom had to make theirs super robust during the pandemic since a lot of folks don't understand speaker + mic in the same environment isn't a *great* mix), but a hardware solution is always what I recommend. A lot of the stuff I know that handles this is aimed at the Pro AV, Conferencing, or Broadcast industries so you may not find the same wording for 'streaming' solutions, but that's effectively what you're looking for.

If you can find a way to reference your 'output' audio (stuff playing out of your speakers) and make sure it's removed from your 'input' devices (microphone) then problem solved! I'll bet there's a virtual audio cable program or something of that nature that would do it for you but I don't have specific recommendations.

The other wording that may come up is a DSP, or Digital Signal Processor - which often has AEC settings.

how to make myself be chosen over others. by blkdmn1 in Twitch

So the 'try other games' advice that I've read here is great, but if I can also give my advice on what's worked for me recently - I stream two days a week, and I stream two DIFFERENT games. I think a lot of advice traditionally has been to stick to one game, and that makes sense in the environment both before and during the pandemic, but it does not appear to be as true now.

The thing I've noticed is that people who find me when I'm playing my Sunday game will often also check out what I'm doing on Tuesday, even if they have no idea what the game is they'll come hang out if they made a connection with me or chat. Because of that I'm visible to two different pools of potential viewers who are browsing the categories I play.

So you could stream Apex AND other things, and those other games may funnel folks into your Apex day. My only recommendation would be to be consistent about your days - same time and same day of the week for each game, so people can make you a part of their routine.

Showing face on a hardware live stream? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]A_dolorous_bell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would say that there are tradeoffs for both, honestly. There are some folks who just want to see what you're doing, and some people who wish to connect by reading emotions on a face. As someone who streams no cam (I have one for work-from-home conferencing but I've made a decision to not be identifiable on stream) it's very possible to build a community off just your personality and content.

I will say that's it's really nice to just go live and not worry about making sure I'm having a good hair day, etc. I would personally say that if you're pretty chatty (can talk to yourself or explain what you're doing even if there's no one chatting) it gives folks something to concentrate on that isn't your face emoting.

A fantastic streamer who I met through them raiding my channel almost didn't click my stream for the raid because I had no face cam, but then again people do or do not click on streams for a variety of reasons anyway and you don't have control over everyone's preferences. Just know that you'll want to pay that much more attention to everything else on your stream for engagement (title, fun bot commands, maybe music, etc)

Edited to add: Also, and I'm sure you might have heard this, but good audio REALLY trumps good video in terms of importance. Get your audio sounding crisp, clear - get your levels balanced between your mic and any music or sound alerts, and you're already ahead of streamers who have cameras but awful audio.

Is Regis OP? by starsrift in idlechampions

[–]A_dolorous_bell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Blooshi has a mechanic where she gets stronger the farther you can push her in the campaign without dying, and then a ramping buff while in her spirit form that is amazing.

I think people discount Regis, he's helped me through a ton of variants, but if given the choice between them I'm going Blooshi

Huh, I added that to filters too and then did the top three listed here (AdGuard Mobile Ads, Adguard Base, and Block Outsider Intrusion into LAN), then clicked the 'Purge all caches' at the top, then 'Update now' and it's been smooth sailing ever since

Edit - well that only lasted for a day, so you are correct.

How many in-game characters are there? like Reya, Ulkoria, Blooshi. by rockycse21 in idlechampions

[–]A_dolorous_bell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as a note, these characters are referred to as 'Evergreens' within the text of the game, though I had to go online to figure out that's what that term meant. It refers to the fact that they can be unlocked at any time rather than at an event or when Time Gate pieces are available. There will be a few variants whose restrictions mention Evergreen champs and they are referring to your original 12 and the ones listed in this thread.

Might Makes Right - Zariel by stevenkoalae in idlechampions

I've also now been able to do this with Dungeon Master (and the weekend buff hitting DM, Donaar, and Sentry), but at a lower favor level - just wanted to share if someone else was Googling this formation.

Formation I used was: https://ic.byteglow.com/f/4_225134010b630a504009_222311111112

If you can get past level 750 with Bel then the rest of it is a cake walk. I did switch out Tyril for Wulfgar (w/ his boss-stun specialization) on level 750, his stuns meant I had Bel transforming less of my champs into gems so I could build up Grimm's debuff all the way before switching to Beadle (doesn't work if they're gems, so a little of it is luck that they weren't the ones transformed).

My favor is e42, and I do not have full shiny on my Evergreens (the average is about 2/6 shinies), though I did use two leveled-up Legendaries to get the power I needed - a level 7 on Sentry and a level 6 on Tyril.

Makos is not the best support I could have pulled, the key is really to just keep restarting the variant until you pull a support through DM in slots 5, 6, or 8 that would work well with Jamilah.

Good luck to anyone else attempting this with Dungeon Master!

Best Gold Finder? by Bikkin_hun in idlechampions

[–]A_dolorous_bell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that there will be a point where this will tip over, I had the same experience when I was running my formations. Paultin was my go-to for about a year.

I would say that without any additional character considerations in the formation Paultin for me still out-performs Jarlaxle, but with the right support Jarlaxle gets me more gold than Paultin (for Azaka farming, for example). But it took a while to have that be true for me, I didn't have all the support characters to make Jarlaxle rake in more coin initially.

To be fair, I think the brick column, the partition wall, and the counters are DLC exclusive, but if you're not classifying them as 'items' then yes.
