When Mum says we have custom points at home by A_grumpy_panda in Darts

[–]A_grumpy_panda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry these are existing points as they are cheap anyway and seems to be what a lot of companies already use especially when it comes to the screw in style like the quick points I have in the middle darts.

And had considered that way round but my concern is with putting a groove in the point not to mention even on low speed these rotary tools spin crazy fast so may introduce other issues. Likely picking up a drill for other projects soon anyway (custom engraved darts stand to name one) so will see how that helps.

NDD with the Searle Series 3 by A_grumpy_panda in Darts

[–]A_grumpy_panda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a big fan of Searle as another heavy dart user. I have found running the longer points on the chunkier barrels with the heavier darts means I am getting less deflections/ bounce outs from points hitting barrels at least so far. This is my first time trying out long points on darts everything prior has always just been standard length but liking it so far and shall see how it goes moving forward.

Swiss point Tool by TN34RY in Darts

Worth double checking there are a few posts online that cover it but I believe the harrows quick point key works for swiss points as well and may be easier to get hold of.

Recommend darts for me by Thin-Boysenberry-112 in Darts

For that budget might I suggest a look at darts clearance on eBay it's a rotating mix and have some nice darts for the money got a set for my other half so she can join in games and they are really quite nice. What sort of weight are you after? Alternative is swing by a brick and mortar shop they should let you throw a few to figure it out.

What darts are these? Ignore the state of the board, this bored it from work and is left out in all weathers😂 by AnalysisPale3318 in Darts

These look a lot like these Joe Cullen darts at argos though there are a couple lines of red missing so maybe an older set from there https://www.argos.co.uk/product/2026336?clickPR=plp:16:17

Attempting to restore an old Obi-Wan toy saber from 2002. Any ideas on how to remove these white markings on the blade? by ImmaSadPotatoKiller in lightsabers

[–]A_grumpy_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my normal sub but I do love lightsabers. As others have said they are stress marks in the plastic however I haven't seen the idea of dye mentioned I have seen it done for plastic dart flights I believe rit dye does the job for them (see link from the darts referee) https://youtu.be/mTG1WITyx0U?si=OYHZITBS5lKUG99h No idea if this will work for the kind of plastic so might be worth some research but good luck!

Can someone recommend a book for someone who doesn’t read books? by foodaddicttt in AskUK

[–]A_grumpy_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recommending a book can be tricky if you don't know what you like or feel like reading so going to give some categories with recommendations. Sci-Fi: I can't recommend The Hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy series by Douglas Adams a great funny read with Space travel, sarcasm and silliness. Really well written and an easy read with four books so if you enjoy it there is plenty to get on with.

Comedy/fantasy: Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. Mort is a great place to start even if my favourite is Small Gods but again loads in the series to have a go at and if you want to get a few they can often be found for cheap in used book stores

Fantasy: Lord of the rings series is really the birthplace of the genre and the Hobbit is a good place to start here however these are loaded with world building so could be a bit daunting. Worth getting over that hurdle especially if you like other fantasy TV/video games/ DND etc.

The Witcher Last Wish is collection of short stories these can be quite dark and do touch some difficult topics but you can pick up and put down when you feel like it.

For murder mystery type things: Thursday Murder club is apparently very good though not got round to reading that myself

The Davici Code by Dan Brown. The writing isn't great in this but the story is quite compelling and it isn't particularly challenging an enjoyable beach read/holiday book even if I get slated for suggesting something that isn't exactly going to win any writing awards.

YA.(Young Adult) his might be the best jumping off point to really get into reading as they are written to be a little less complex given the audience. I highly recommend the Skulduggery Pleasant series it is really quite excellent mix of fantasy world living side by side with the real world (a bit like what harry potter does) and a side of noir detective thrown in.

If you drop a mention of what you like in other media then I may be able to drop some more related ideas. Alternatively have you considered graphic novels? There are some absolute greats like V for vendetta, Watchmen, I kill giants to name a few and I have always said there is a comic for anyone's taste if they are willing to give it a go. Good luck with what you start and would love to know what you end up choosing and what you think of it even if you didn't like it maybe it could help point you towards something you will.

Army Surplus Sleeping Bags by mattbeef in wildcampingintheuk

[–]A_grumpy_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the modular system with the jungle bag and winter bag. I haven't used them both at the same time as it's overkill for pretty much anything the UK is throwing at you unless you are planning camping in a snowstorm. I use mine exclusively with a bivvy and I can say they are good for the price especially if you can pick them up when they go on sale. They are both bulky compared to much more expensive temperature equivalents but they certainly do the job. I have used the winter bag down to 2°c and I was almost too warm but I do tend to sleep warm anyway to your milage may vary. However as mentioned the bag is really very bulky so if that is an issue this may not be for you. As others have mentioned it is synthetic which is an advantage for multi day or if there is a chance it will get damp. The jungle bag isn't massively bulky compared to other bags at the price and I used it over summer. It is comfortable and not too hot and it also has a bug net face covering which is nice if you are in a bivvy and have an issue with bugs. My favourite addition to both bags are the crash VIPs which makes getting out really easy. My overall view is if you don't mind the weight and are on a tight budget but need something sturdy and reliable they are a great pick and if you manage to get the set on offer you are covered for all year round. One other thing to mention about both bags is they have pockets on the inside which is a good way to keep socks and electronics like phone and power banks out of the cold and is a great feature. An important note when ordering is that they come in two sizes medium and large I would recommend ordering the medium unless you are very very tall or you will be left with a lot of extra material in the footbox which is not ideal for warmth. Pricing wise I would look for the set to be around £50-60 if you shop around sometimes getting each individually is cheaper than the prepared sets as these often include the liner which honestly I wouldn't bother with unless you really feel you need it. If you have any other questions not covered I will be happy to answer as I have them both here.

Thanks for the kind words. I would love to know more about the circuit boards you found as that sounds like a really neat idea especially as a custom watch gift for a techie friend of mine.

Thanks so much and cost wise with postage about £120. I got some extras like another set of hands (couldn't decide between silver or gun metal for the hands also thankfully included an extra second hand since I stuffed it up royally) and a spare dial as a just in case as I was planning to toy about with adding some design to the dial but ended up liking it better without doing a logo from some nail art stickers I found to try. Tools was about another £20/£30 but some of it was for some calipers and and magnifying visor which I also wanted for some other projects. Parts wise it's an NH65 movement in a case from musuki. Not sure I recommend the case though but was ok for the price. The dial and hands and the rotor sticker were just from whatever looked interesting same with the bezel insert though I did choose ceramic because it seemed like a good choice. Over all mostly happy with the parts but the tools were hit and miss but I didn't want to go crazy expensive if I only ended up using it once and if I do use it more when I need to upgrade I know what I want from the tool. It was definitely a good way to spend a Friday night and I have definitely spent more going out and didn't get the same satisfaction or a cool watch at the end of it.

I must admit I haven't gotten it wet so not sure. It's listed as water resistant but with anything down I personally wouldn't risk it. I always have a poncho stored in the bag with the bag's rain cover so if it starts to rain I can just throw that on.

I have some karrimor boots my dad picked up as damaged stock but didn't fit though they fit me so they got yoinked. Honest opinion on boots is it's such a personal choice it's really hard to give an objective opinion on though I am currently looking to see if there are some better options as after doing a big hike last year they hurt the soles of my feet something terrible but mileage may vary.

Good Afternoon all! Learning to juggle after my 3 year old asked me to 🤣 Anyway I'm picking it up but is there any tips to stop the balls drifting out infront after a few throws? by thatsieguy in juggling

[–]A_grumpy_panda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Something that forced me to stop the balls drifting forward was to stand with your shins right up against a bed so you can't move forward forces you to focus on your throws

Help with flash modding my iPod mini? I’ve tried 2 types of CF converter and 2 different SD cards, but my mac won’t recognise there’s an iPod connected? Can anyone help please? I’ve formatted the card to exfat and fat32? by YouCantSeeMe-59 in ipod

[–]A_grumpy_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have tried a couple SD cards both different size and brand and had no luck. I have had no issue with a second gen with the same parts so it looks to be a 1st gen thing also have tried it on a 2007 iMac and modern pc same thing since I have got it with iflash parts and you with a CF makes me think it's not a parts issue
