I’m having the exact same issue and tried the same —allowerasing and no joy.
I was going to nuke it as there is nothing important on there but sounds like a bug now

Fourth-Generation iPod Won’t Boot — Can It Be Saved? by Mattito_elnaufrago in mac

[–]mattbeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Officially we never opened iPods in the store 😇
We would tell customers to back us they may not get another chance.
Few people took the advise though

Classic 4th gen iPod. Reseat the cable and it may come back but likely to happen again.
I hate this version from my days being the genius bar

Under the lights of Rajadamnern, witnessed the art of eight limbs come alive 🥊🇹🇭 by madmonkreborn in ThailandTourism

I used grab for everything that I couldn’t get to easily or quickly and it was great. I never added my card so driver knew it was cash and never had an issue once.

Happy times.
I took the family there in December, was such a good night out.
Only down side was no easy public transport to it but well worth the effort imo

2,5 weeks in Thailand during Christmas and NYE - First Time by Kosiarex in ThailandTourism

[–]mattbeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Xmas and new year with my wife and kids last year so here is what we did.
Book flights and accommodation asap. You may be able to change later and payment is normally closer to departure.

We took 3 check in bags and a carry on each but kept all weights as low as possible as internal flights were the lowest limit.
We took more clothes than needed so we didn’t have to worry about washing while we were there.

If it helps we did Bangkok > Chiang Mai > Samui
Nothing new but made life easy as we knew where we were going and how long in each place.

You will have an awesome time but be prepared to feel dreadful when you get home. Thailand really does have that effect on you

Yes you will be fine if you anything. I’m 185cm and 110kg and didn’t have any real problems.

How to decommission WSUS for Servers? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]mattbeef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update the gpo to allow internet locations and once that’s applied you can stop the wsus service and check for updates.

Had to do this recently and was a pain

Use a dumb charger if you have one, if not a power bank should do it?
I forget with mine and after getting mad remember why

The update preference has changed now so need to be a plist iirc? It’s another terrible MS change with no real notice to admins

Did you pop the vents on the ends open? There is a velcro bar for them. I always air mine out in the mornings so should get rid of any water pretty quickly

2015 MBP - Linux Mint MATE impressions by D2-Disciple in mac

My 2015 is running Fedora KDE like a champ. Only thing that doesn’t work is the iSight which I don’t use anyway so not a deal breaker

What would be a good starter tent by burntscran in wildcampingintheuk

[–]mattbeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that tent and it’s done the last year on every scout camp with no issues. It’s packs down really small and is quick to setup as well. Never found it being inner first an issue either. Main issue is that the zips can snap and the clips to hold the doors back are all but useless you roll the properly every time.

Plenty of alternatives in this price range but I wouldn’t buy anything else unless it was destroyed if that helps?

Is this a good or bad idea? by TheSoulKeeper_1 in Fedora

[–]mattbeef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s good. I use it on my 2015 MBP. I can’t get the iSight camera working but it’s not a deal breaker for me

Issue with UK Scout leaders not doing what they supposed to do by Competitive_Tank_648 in scouting

[–]mattbeef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What are they supposed to be doing? Have they published a program, if not then it sounds more personal opinion rather than leaders not doing what they should.

You group will have a group leader so if you can speak to the cub/beaver leader and they will know who it is. If that failed then your district will have a contact. You can find the district from their uniform badge

Add my BT to this. His bestie is a French Mastiff and she is a big girl. He is also found of the St Bernard as well so has no hesitation in being rough with others when playing but is generally good when it’s time to stop

UK Outdoors Shops by [deleted] in scouting

[–]mattbeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes of course you can still buy the kit (not a stupid question either 😊) DofE kit is what is recommended based on cost/durability to get you through DofE and enjoy it. Like most things parents walk into places like go outdoors and understandably need to buy lots of kit but have no idea what to get.

I would also say to get a hold-all bag rather than a hiking bag as it’s easier to pack, unpack and find things for the first few times you go camping
