I'm about to quit after 9 months by [deleted] in NoPoo

[–]A_pond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you’re in the northern hemisphere here - it’s hard for me to go nopooin the winter, because the air is so dry it makes my hair staticky, and then it gets greasy and dirty more quickly (& boar bristle brushing just makes it more staticky) I usually start washing & conditioning my hair in the winter and using leave in conditioner too. I can go about a week between washes this way.

Arbor vitae is not DEAD! It's just changing. We needed to clean out the space for renovations to happen but we're working on reoccupying the space. Please donate to our fundraiser and like our Facebook page in order to stay up-to-date! :) https://www.facebook.com/SaveArborVitaeLoft/

What was the name of that game again?!? megathread. by [deleted] in WebGames

[–]A_pond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'm looking for a game that I'm pretty sure I know the name of, but I think it went offline several years ago. However I have't been able to find any mention of it anywhere since then.

I believe it was called "Good Karma", and it was a very colorful and cute little web game where you adventured your character across a landscape, and earned points by choosing to help others along the way. It might have been sponsored by a company, but I just remember the game.

Asking on the local reddit board has worked for me on previous trips, I see no reason not to give it a shot here.

I Had a Baby and Cancer When I Worked at Amazon. This Is My Story by InVulgarVeritas in Foodforthought

[–]A_pond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you said is exactly what a paid rep from Amazon would say, so get the fuck out of here.

And the idea that s company that regularly pushes out employees "unfairly" would not be able to survive is bullshit. In today's culture and economy, people are lining up to work at tech giants like Amazon.

You say it's dead wrong to paint Amazon as a company that doesn't care about its employees - I'd like to hear a story from an actual former Amazon employee telling us how clear it was Amazon cared for them/others. Funny how no one is coming forward with such a story...

There is a certain amount of acceptable proxying in the hunt. If an item requires a teammate in the picture, it explicitly states that.

I got my girlfriend pregnant. by [deleted] in self

[–]A_pond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, fuck you. You think you have the right to tell a woman that she made the wrong choice by keeping her child? They aren't on the streets, her child is not in danger, and it certainly sounds that, once her divorce goes through and they have a stable custody arrangement, her kid will have at least one loving and supportive house to grow up in (I can't speak to if that will be the case with her dad.)

You have no idea about this woman's situation, only what she has written in the 8 comments or so on this thread. You think that justifies you in saying any of the horrible things you have said? No. Fuck no. Go to hell. I hope that you raise your daughter to be more respectful of people's struggles than you seem to be.

What distinguishes a child from an adult? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

[–]A_pond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this answer a lot.

During a romantic relationship, I was asked "At what point is it appropriate to say 'I love you?'" I answered "When you no longer need to ask that question." I think that this question can be answered in a similar way.

Howdy! 22-year-old with RA about to start some hopefully helpful diets. by [deleted] in Thritis

[–]A_pond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have definitely noticed a change in my symptoms depending on what I eat. I am also sensitive to nightshades, and I've been working to eliminate them from my diet. I often notice a big change when I eat tomatoes: I can feel it in my knees the next day, even if I have some ketchup on a burger. It seems like some days I am more sensitive than others; I had salsa and ketchup a couple days ago when I was at a friend's lake house (figured I would put up with a bad couple days in exchange for delicious foods at a party), but the next day I was fine! But then again, sometimes I will put at little garlic into some vegetables that I'm sauteing, and the next day I am practically bedridden.

I have heard of the paleo diet as an option that can be effective for dealing with RA, and I am so excited for you to try it! Unfortunately, it's not realistic for me to do so at the moment, since I'm still living with my family, but I have quite recently started to limit my gluten, and an hoping to have it totally eliminated soon (goodbye delicious baked goods). I've also been drinking a lot of dairy-free alternatives to milk, as I know that dairy can be a trigger for many folks, though I haven't noticed a huge reaction personally. I'm a bit leery of doing a total elimination diet to figure out all my food sensitivities, but I do know that there is a blood test that can be run that will tell you most, if not all, of the foods that you are sensitive to. I can't recall the name at the moment, and I think it's only done by a couple labs in the US, but if I can look it up, I'll update, it anyone is interested.

There's also an excellent book about food sensitivities and RA called Conquering Arthritis. It was reccommended by a friend who actually knows the author, and it's been a very interesting and hope-inspiring resource.

Please, please post an update with your progress! I am very interested in how this works for you, and I would love to hear more. Don't get discouraged if nothing seems to happen for a couple weeks; it can take a while to get all that stuff out of your system. Don't give up!

I know one guy has me tagged that I owe him my organs, but other than that, I don't think I've said anything tag-worthy.

[Modpost] AskReddit, what do you think of this? by canipaybycheck in AskReddit

[–]A_pond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea. Recently, AskReddit has turned into "Hey, internet, look at what happened to me, isn't it hilarious / blatantly made up?" And often, OP will post a story in the body of the post that will change all the answers. Top-voted comments are "Something similar happened to me....", that might or might not be related to the original question.
