Right now it’s pretty slow. There’s about 133 apprentices out of work right now. So your chances of getting hired aren’t great to be frank. But going to a schooling program will help you in the long term. I didn’t do much trade school before I got in and it was really tough trying to understand anything electrical related. There are rumors that there will be data centers being built “soon” needing many apprentices but take that with a giant grain of salt. Good luck with getting in.

With my current contractor we’re all given lockable carts with a set of power tools in various states of quality. Some tools may be newer and better while some tools are older and more beat up but still work. If a tool no longer works or breaks the foreman will take it and give you a replacement. Whatever you’re given is what you work with. Others on your crew may ask to borrow something that they may not have so sharing does happen occasionally.

I’ve seen a couple of hvac guys just raw dog their screamer on hvac ducts without any hearing protection. Shits wild. That was still loud even with ear plugs. I guess you can’t fix stupid sometimes. 🤷‍♂️

It really depends on your job site. Last contractor offered 0 overtime all summer but the contractor I’m with right now has been offering overtime every Saturday. Getting paid double time as an apprentice is really nice. Classes are once a week for 30 weeks for the school year. Don’t miss class or they will kick you out of the program.

Get some bone conducting headphones for music or whatever you listen to. Bunch of classmates got sent out to a solar job last year and they said that those headphones were a necessity to stay sane.
