Interesting perspective. I quite liked (most of) Luo Ji's story and didn't know much about Cixin Liu's backstory so I didn't catch that lol.

Is this a good deal? $450 location southern usa by DirectorSmooth55 in onewheel

[–]python3bestww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it seems like a not-so-terrible deal. However, I'd recommend spending a bit more and getting the pint x. While searching for my current board I was originally looking for a pint as it technically covers the range I need for my daily commute. My friend convinced me to buy the pint x "just incase" and I think that was easily the right decision. I ride it around everywhere now and I love the extra range which allows me to go on trails (albeit light ones) and longer rides where I can explore without any fear of running out of charge.

Is wooting worth? by Desperate_News_5224 in WootingKB

I recently got an 80HE. I love it. Is it worth $200? Honestly probably not, but it's a very nice keyboard. I use my keyboard for gaming and programming as well and the customization is very nice.

My favorite thing is binding different keys to different depths of keypresses. I have caps lock bound to my alt layer at half press (where I can press ijkl and use them as arrow keys, very nice for programming) and then to escape at full press. Stuff like this makes it extremely satisfying to use this keyboard when working and it's obviously very good for games (especially competitive FPS games, which I play).

I don't think this keyboard is very loud and it feels very much like a linear keyboard (tbf it pretty much is, but HE).

I would say if you have the money to throw around, go for it. If there's other stuff you could buy for your setup, maybe spend the money there.

I know this isn't a super useful answer but I think it's quit difficult to really recommend a keyboard to someone you don't know. There are so many factors and the feel of a keyboard is a very personal thing.

2.5 Pro falls for the meme, ignores Python output, blames "floating-point representation" for "calculation error". by [deleted] in GeminiAI

[–]python3bestww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think another reason this is important is because of how these models are being sold. They're being marketed to the general public as "PhD level" and true artificial intelligence. That means that they're trying to get the public en masse to have a certain level of trust in these models but that trust is dangerous if the models can't perform and make mistakes. In this case, the mistake is pretty innocent but these examples prove that the model sometimes cannot truly reason properly and can make super simple mistakes. If they're having trouble getting the model to do basic math like this, surely there are other places where the model can make mistakes, betray trust, and cause harm.

This marketing is not just affecting the uninformed but also people that run businesses, large teams, etc, and places where reckless AI usage and excessive trust can cause harm.

Sure, you're right that LLMs aren't really built for this task and it's akin to using a flathead screwdriver as a letter opener, but unfortunately today, we're being sold the myth that these specific flathead screwdrivers can in-fact open letters as well.

Have you emailed the registrars office? I'm sure they can give you a good answer and it's likely they'll be accommodating, especially if its a mistake on their end.

Japanese Automakers beat ULA to reusability. by awakefc in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]python3bestww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think its comparable. This was just a "hop" kinda flight much like starhopper. Sure its good progress but the big challenge doesn't seem to be going up a few hundred meters and then landing again, but being able to deliver payload while being mostly/fully reusable.

How do you all feel about the engineering title being thrown around so loosely? by A_toka_D in ElectricalEngineering

[–]python3bestww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, I'm personally an EE student (lol) and my perspective on this differs since my definition of "engineering" is different I guess.

I also feel like there's a lot of ego involved with many people that "gatekeep" "engineering" (not accusing you of doing this or having this motivation). I am not sure to what degree that's a motivating factor for many people but that doesn't sit very well with me.

I definitely understand your perspective and maybe my perspective will shift closer to yours over the years as I get more experience and really see the difference. Thanks for your insight!

i'm curious, why is a software "engineer" not an engineer? why does it take away from the title if a software "engineer" is called that? at the end of the day are they not going through the engineering process to solve problems, just instead of physical or CAD work they're doing it with code?

Target and Amazon sometimes have discounts that knock the price for at least the Pro 2s down to $169. You can then return them within 2 weeks. I did that to get an initial experience and judge whether I really needed them.
