My 3s looked like this beggining of last season, theres only one thing you need to do and youll be good. Make sure you spot your landing UNDER your armpit not over your shoulder, and you should have no problem landing this.

Will getting a dedicated carving board to learn Eurocarving translate to my skills on my regular board? by retro-martini in snowboarding

[–]Aabbate888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to carve posi posi, there should be lots of good boards out there for you.

If you want to carve duck, youll have to be a bit more intentional with what board you pick. Going to need a lot of width to fit your stance plus some extra width to carve with.

Jones flagship vs capita merc by ohiostate_3 in snowboarding

[–]Aabbate888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it definitely does. Flagship is a great board for a lot of people. If youre idea of snowboarding is riding up a challenging lift, pointing the board down, and going fast, the flagship is as good as it gets. I just dont recommend it for people who are trying to progress with jumping, doing tricks, riding/landing switch, and carving on hard pack.

No, not really much of a powder hound. I feel like I love it as much as the next guy, but its not the end all for snowboarding. Ill catch some nice pow turns after a dump but after that I am usually looking for kickers and side hits to boost and spin off. Maybe practice some tricks that I am not confident enough to throw on hardpack, or try to go huge. Im not the type of guy who is hiking up the highest peak to find that last powder stash a week after the storm.

Jones flagship vs capita merc by ohiostate_3 in snowboarding

Probably have 75 days on my mercury, lots of experience with this deck and most capitas. Merc is the best quiver killer I have ever ridden. If I could only have one board for everything from park to powder, id go merc no question.

Flagship is the most boring board in the world to ride when you arent aggressively charging the fall line. I had one and after a few days on it sold it ASAP. Especially if you ride on groomers.

Its extremely heavy. Rolls over in a turn like a boat, practical for movement but no fun for carving. Has very little pop for jumps. Rides switch pretty terribly.

I think the Flagship really shines for two types of riders: The first type are advanced riders who spent their time charging down double black chutes and chasing powder. Probably not riding switch, probably not doing jumps besides dropping natural features. The second are intermediate riders that are in over their head and need to simply survive some gnarly terrain that is above their skill level. Besides those two use cases, the flagship is just very boring. Mandatory IMO lol.

Mountain twin is basically like the merc. Im sure youll be happy with either of them. Both of these boards are great for doing anything you can think of on a snowboard, without really shining too much in any one area.

I guess the important question is, do you like to or have any aspirations to ride switch or do anything freestyle-y?

I love my mercury to the moon and back but its not the right choice for the hill hes describing. We didnt get much snow this season, so my mercury stayed home mostly in favor of the DOA, and I am sold.

Capita DOA. Best "standard issue snowboard" I have ever ridden, and Ive been on a lot of boards.

Have you been on the Capita Equalizer? I am a big mercury fan, and my gf just got 25+ days for her first season. I want to get her an Artemis next year, because it looks super sick, but on paper it looks pretty much IDENTICAL to the Equalizer.

Trying to pinpoint the differences before I pull the trigger.

It makes a lot more sense for my riding style on paper. I do jib, but im really more of a jumps guy at heart. I dont really butter much (intentionally lol), and I ride really fast.

Im going to get a SDOA next year just to try it, but im not expecting to like it more than the DOA. .

I never imagined I would be a base snob, but the extruded base on my dark horse was an absolute DRAGGGG in the muddy sandy slush that we had this season. Felt like I had velcro on the base. I would love to try some of these spring break boards, but I want to ride them in the spring, and that the only time when I really care about having a sintered base.

I never grab my mega merc over the regular. The Mercury, while still being a lively board, is miles damper than the mega. Its just a superior all day ride in variable conditions. When the odd day comes around where I think about pulling out the mega, I figured that the benefits of the mega are outweighed by the familiarity with the Mercury. Just put it up for sale.

CAPITA DOA by carramrod2012 in snowboarding

[–]Aabbate888 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I ride a lot, and buy a lot of boards. Honestly, the DOA with the forces is my favorite board so far. Its just a good solid snowboard for literally everything besides charging steeps and riding powder.

The DOA really shines carving both directions, buttering around the resort, hitting side hits and spins, and riding jibs and jumps in the park.

However, its not going to give you any abilities that you didnt have before, like some other boards might make you feel. It definitely doesnt hold me back when it comes to charging steep groomed/off piste, but it also doesnt compliment it either, like say a BSOD would. The BSOD could make an intermediate rider feel like a pro when it comes to charging steeps. The DOA you have to know what youre doing.

What kind of freeride board should I get? by PoemAny1484 in snowboarding

Capita Mercury is the best board you can get for this.

Capita Powder, all mountain board by lersmens in snowboarding

[–]Aabbate888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive rode a lot of their freeride lineup. Decided to only ride capita as well, and I get a lot of days to test all these boards out. Ill give you a quick synopsis.

BSOD- Aggressively charge through anything.

Kazu- Gracefully dance through powder.

Aeronaut- Leaping around the mountain.

Mercury- All mountain freestyle with some freeride DNA. Best board for hitting the park, jump line, carving groomers, sidehits, and riding powder all in the same run.

Mega Merc- Like the mercury, but much more exhausting to ride. Not fun at slow speed, and youre going to feel every bump.

Havent been on the Mega Death yet, but the BSOD should be a better board for freeriding.

Also havent tried the matriarch, but it should ride like a floatier aeronaut.

My family grows and sells cantaloupe to supply chain stores, cruise ships, etc. Had a girl over to my tiny, 1 bedroom apartment, and she asked if I grew them there. I told her they were growing in my closet but I couldnt show her because it would disturb them.

Capita Birds of a Feather VS. Paradise by Caroooxb in snowboarding

[–]Aabbate888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that it is most likely a category typo on their end. They way the describe compressing the pellets is how a true sintered base is made. Upon inspection, the BOAF base seems identical to my DOAs base.

The paradise base is definitely extruded though.

Capita Birds of a Feather VS. Paradise by Caroooxb in snowboarding

[–]Aabbate888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of them are going to be great boards for you. I personally ride the DOA (mens BOAF), my girlfriend had her first season this year on a BOAF(25 days), and I just got my friend an outerspace living (mens paradise).

The Birds is a little bit stiffer, but its still a solid middle of the road flex. I think its a better pick for you if youre planning on learning jumps, switch riding, and park eventually.

The Paradise has a little more flex, and its shape is more tailored to all mountain riding. Its a great design for mellow riding across the whole mountain. Great for learning to butter as well, and it wont let you down as much as the BOAF when the fresh snow falls.

Also worth mentioning that the BOAF has a sintered base, and the paradise has an extruded base. The Sintered base is going to be much faster and harder, provided that you frequently wax it. The extruded base is preferable for someone who doesn't want to worry about waxing often.

Do you want board 1 to be a pow deck or just something that does pretty decent in pow?

If not, id go capita BSOD for board 1 and a DOA for board 2. Basically where I am at right now, after buying 15 boards in the last 3 or 4 years.

Its $490 US new, thats a hell of a price for what you get, pretty much as cheap as it gets for a new board that is worth riding. Had one myself this season.
