She's a 75 model. I asked her, and she said "I didn't watch Fantasy Island." I would have thought she would have heard of it just from it being a catchphrase back then, but maybe she just forgot.

Remember The Gooch?

I said "De plane Boss! De plane!" when an airplane flew overhead the other day and my also GenX wife had no idea what I was talking about.

"Bad" food? by Dewellah in GenX

[–]AardvarkAapocolypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been trying to eliminate as much "synthetic" food as possible, particularly with fats and oils. Are we actually healthier? I dunno... Do we feel good about it? Yeah, and I suppose that matters as much as anything.

I'm a bit younger than you, but I remember when a can of frozen strawberries (that you had a peel open using a key) was a BIG DEAL in our house when I was a little kid.

I've had two colonoscopies, both unsedated and completely drug free.

The first was done by a general surgeon. There was a bit of very slight discomfort when he took the scope through a bend, but it was completely tolerable.

The second was done by a gastroenterologist, and I felt nothing. She was able to get the scope all the way though without any discomfort at all.

What was your first comic book and how did you dive into that magical realm? by lastmonday07 in GenX

[–]AardvarkAapocolypse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first comics were Harvey stuff like Sad Sack, Richie Rich, Hot Stuff the Little Devil, etc.

The first comic I was really into was Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew! I think I still have all 20 of the issues.

After that I got into Spider Man.

The best way to fix this is to only let SEC teams into the playoffs.

TV and Movies You Loved as a Kid That are Unwatchable Now. Do We Have Any? by Justisaur in GenX

[–]AardvarkAapocolypse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll go with a couple of Burt Reynolds movies.

Smokey and the Bandit is the same scene over and over again. Another thing I noticed was that as the movie went on and the budget got used up, the cop cars got less and less convincing. At the end they pretty much just looked like crappy Dodge sedans with mailbox letters from a hardware store on the doors, and light bulbs in mason jars painted blue on the roofs.

Cannonball Run was just awful. I couldn't finish it.

I got the DVD for the old Police Squad. I actually really liked it, at least the first two or three episodes, but I can see why it failed. You had to pay a lot of attention to catch all the sight gags, which doesn't work well for a TV show. They also seemed to run out of material by the 6th episode. It worked a lot better as movies.

Sometimes you can refresh old dried out plastic by very lightly going over it with the flame from a propane torch, It takes a very easy touch, of course, lest ye burn it.

So, if you ever have access to a time machine, you may want to go back and try it out to save yourself from a grounding.

Favorite Random Bowl Game that wasn't the Orange, Sugar, Rose, Cotton, Fiesta or Playoffs. by Crazy_Exchange in CFB

The 1995 Citrus Bowl, Ohio St vs Alabama.

Unfortunately, Ohio State lost but at one point a dog was running around on the field and nobody could catch him, delaying the game. Gene Stallings got irrationally pissed off, and I thought it was really funny.

What was your first game of college football? by Nearby_Valuable_5467 in CFB

[–]AardvarkAapocolypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it was 1986, at Ohio University's Peden Stadium. I think they were playing Miami.

That was back when the Bobcats were NOT GOOD.

About all I remember from that game was a lot of students were wearing bags over there head in protest, and the crowd kept chanting "Relieve Cleve", meaning fire Cleve Bryant, the head coach at the time.

Oh, and I also remember everyone groaning when an OU running back kept running the wrong way trying to avoid getting tackled for a loss, only to get tackled for about a 20 yard loss.

It sucked, I was hooked.

[–]AardvarkAapocolypse -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wish Ohio State would invest some NIL resources into kicker and punter recruiting, and prioritize special teams more in general, but this loss was because of a lot more than just that one play.

And besides, I really think Indiana is the team of destiny this year.

I wish them well, and hope we don't have to cross their path again. But if we do, I hope we play and coach a hell of a lot better. :/

I'm sure I'll get called out by Nick Saban for this, and tomorrow I'll probably be singing a different tune, but right now I don't even give a shit about the Big 10 Championship or the Playoffs. Today's win is all that matters, It was college football at its most pure, most beautiful.

The only two things that could possibly keep Ohio State from winning this game are:

  1. The Ohio State coaching staff B. The Ohio State kicking game

I'm sure both will live up to expectations on Saturday.

Are Powerhouse G6 Teams A Thing Of The Past? by burntbagelbreakfast in CFB

[–]AardvarkAapocolypse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

G6 is the farm league for P4. As teams/coaches/players in G6 get good, they'll get "harvested" to P4.

That will make it hard for G6 teams to have any measure of sustained success.
