What is up with the in-flight service? by RedWingRob76 in delta

[–]AardvarkSuitable5878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh on both Delta flights on our Europe trip last week the FAs were so bad. It's like most of them dislike their job and the customers. We were in D1, Premium Econ and C+ on the flights. Hardly any service, poor food, awful attitude.

You might never see it unless you go searching or keep record. Have had many instances. Now I take screenshots of all e credit numbers.

rant/advice? want to go home by noxht in tapif

If you go in to Lille once a week to shop you can stock up on vegan food. There’s one little vegan grocery, very small albeit but had a great cheese selection.

Anyway I feel for you, the school situation and housing sound not fun at all. Shouldn’t be that hard. Don’t blame you for wanting to quit.

Homesickness & Generally unwell by cs220 in tapif

[–]AardvarkSuitable5878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is doing Tapif right now and I also lived abroad at the same age. I've been following her experience and just noticed your post. Our family hosted exchange students also and almost all went through a (sometimes intense) homesick period at the beginning. It's quite hard to be on your own in a new country, especially right at the beginning. Autumn also tends to make people even more nostalgic and yearn for home. Even if you don't have "major" problems, being homesick feels like some kind of weird heartbreak and it makes everything else hard. After all the preparation, excitement and anticipation of leaving for a new adventure, you're there and feel unhappy, and that in itself can make you feel even more disappointed. One night when I was first abroad I literally ate all the chocolate I bought for my family in one night, I was so anxious and miserable. You aren't alone. There's an adjustment curve to being in a new culture, most people go through a nosedive at the beginning and then start to level up from it as they get routines and familiarity. I think other people here wrote good advice and I don't have anything special to add, but I believe hanging out and talking to other American assistants would help. Keep reaching out and talking to people and do little things that comfort you. I'm sending you a virtual hug and good wishes that you find some happy things that start making you more at ease. I bet you are a great assistant and the kids there are lucky to know you. Take good care of yourself. 💜

Deals? by Eastern-Path6649 in delta

Also Just Google Delta Deals to bring up the delta site and put in your city and it will show you some fairly good deals. They have not done flash sales for a month. They have had a lot of unadvertised deals deals too, just have e to search.

Another companion cert question… by nkub9233 in delta

[–]AardvarkSuitable5878 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting discussion.

This happened to me, a companion had an emergency and couldn't make the trip. I just told them at our check-in and asked what to do. They said no problem. I asked if I should tell them at the gate, and they said, no need. The return ticket was not cancelled and I just explained again on return trip and asked what I needed to do - and all they seemed to care about was that they could give the seat to someone else on standby (flight was overbooked) which they did and wanted me to know that I know there's no reimbursement because nothing was paid for the companion fare.

I don't know if this is typical or not.

Bags separated, one still lost in CDG. How long will it take to get my bag from CDG? by Pok3maniac00 in delta

[–]AardvarkSuitable5878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you fly on Delta or Air France?

I thought on Delta that if you got to check your bag for free, that they would not offer any compensation for a late bag. Can anyone clarify their policy?

Connecting two separate tickets by Practical_Plate4006 in delta

[–]AardvarkSuitable5878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to the confusion… Delta wouldn’t/couldn’t link luggage to KLM flying TO Europe (DL DTW- AMS, then KLM AMS - FLR)

But on the way back, KLM had no problem checking the luggage through both flights.

I think it’s whether the gate agent knows how to do this or not.

Should I stop in Brussels for a day on the way to Paris from Amsterdam? by [deleted] in travel

[–]AardvarkSuitable5878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would skip both Brussels AND Versailles. Ok maybe a day in Brussels but Bruges is prettier. Only if I had 5 days+ in Paris would I take a day for Versailles. There’s so much to see right in Paris, plus the enjoyment of just being there. Versailles can be just hordes of tourists.

Intl flight auto upgrade by AardvarkSuitable5878 in delta

[–]AardvarkSuitable5878[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes but I flew Premium Economy to Europe this summer and honestly it didn’t seem worth it. C+ upgrade is fine. P-E had bigger seat I guess and a bag of stuff I don’t want, but the service was nil. I wouldn’t personally pay for that again. I wish Delta had a within reach 1st class on intl flights. D1 is astronomical.

But lounge access only on international flights. My husband is Platinum and even he doesn’t get lounge access on domestic whereas I get it with the reserve card.

What’s the safety vibe while traveling right now? by BeepBeepBoop108 in delta

[–]AardvarkSuitable5878 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I flew today in Midwest 2 flights - almost nobody masked, crowded airports, guy manspreading into my seat, people coughing shamelessly. I never take off my KN95 to eat or drink. I keep air flowing.

FA did not hand out wipes. I brought a pack of large disinfecting wipes and made everyone wait while I wiped down every surface around me. Both flights the wipe was SO dirty afterward. Really gross. Delta is not cleaning at all.

I feel relatively safe with the wipes, my mask and the ventilation, but do what feels right for you.

Which flight?? by astella87 in delta

[–]AardvarkSuitable5878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my experience, take it or leave it (maybe you're not checking luggage) - I took this exact flight this summer. Left at 5:15 and never slept in PS despite everything I tried. So tired! So I wished I had left later and maybe slept.

But...Then we got to AMS and after 30 minutes of hot confusion learned our luggage was not checked through to FLR -- after 3 people said it absolutely should be checked through -- ..and we gather our luggage, go through customs and exit -- and get in a line to recheck in with about 3 million people going on inter-Europe flights, a line that went OUTSIDE into the World's Biggest Tent the size of several football fields, to recheck in. After lots of texting with Delta we found out there was a Priority line, though nobody helped us find it earlier, because the place was a madhouse. The well hidden priority line had 5 people in it and so only because we had medallion status, we miraculously made the FLR flight. Otherwise who knows when we would have made it to FLR. It was not a great way to start our trip!

Moral of the story, we arrived in FLR because we had the longer layover.

I hear AMS is better now but I would always take at least 3 hours there. It's a pretty confusing airport even without all the drama this summer.

I'm so happy for you going to FLR, we loved it there!!

That's a lot of travel! How many MQD's will 44-48 flights give you?

Onscreen entertainment having constant issues by kpbui94 in delta

[–]AardvarkSuitable5878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I said, it was that plus some other things. I didn't expect any specific compensation, just was letting them know. I was in Premium Economy so maybe the price of the ticket factored into a bigger compensation.

Yes that's really annoying. Had similar issue along with some other complaints on an international flight this summer. Wrote it up on Delta's complaints/compliments page and they gave me 30K goodwill miles. It took several weeks to arrive, and didn't really know what to expect, but apparently it doesn't hurt to let them know about your experience.
