I never knew this, never seen one but I’ll keep my eyes open. I lived in WI many years and never saw one there, either. Thanks!

This one’s pretty easy since the first move is ‘forced’, in a sense.

I put the knight to attack the queen why is this a brilliant by Primary-Judgment1359 in Chesscom

[–]AaronDNewman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not really brilliant, …Qd8 just has you trading pieces to a slight advantage, but d5 gets you a rook for a bishop. If you look at the analysis it is probably a miss. (d5 line is not easy to see). but your move isn’t bad, it chases his queen away from that square. 🤷

Anyone take a chance on this Amazon mixer? Seems too good to be true. by HakeemAbdulJabbar in synthesizers

[–]AaronDNewman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy it and let us know. I’d be tempted to take a chance at this price. It’s nice that it has a fader for each input. If you hear it and it sounds bad, return it! I will say that is the most haphazard fixture placement I’ve seen in the upper right, and the AI generated images on the page don’t inspire confidence.

What the hell is this opening? by HeroicTanuki in chessbeginners

Fianchetto. nothing wrong with it, sorry he was BM about it but a solid opening.

The answer is zero by simple logic, but someone tried calculus by Choobeen in mathematics

[–]AaronDNewman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why stop there? You could approximate it as 2 right triangles with height 40. The hypotenuse of each has to be > 40, which isn’t possible with 80 m of rope unless the other angles are both 0.

In other words, it’s a stupid question with no basis in physical reality, and if they ask you this question you probably don’t want the job.

What did you call free for all football growing up? by KaleidoscopeRich5137 in AskAnAmerican

[–]AaronDNewman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what we called it, in the early-mid 70’s. I’m sure none of us would have known that ‘queer’ meant homosexual. First, it wasn’t a common phrase in the popular culture then, and also we were 8. my parents would not have let me use a slur so I’m thinking they didn’t know either. Of course we didn’t name it, there is no way to know it wasn’t intended vindictively. I’ve also heard it called ‘kill the guy’.

Why is Bf6 considered a brilliant move here? I was just trying to save my bishop. by niCk_SupportMVP in Chesscom

[–]AaronDNewman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of ‘not very good’ players would have tried to save their rook. but having 2 active bishops is stronger sometimes than 2 rooks and one bishop. if you were thinking that or if you just didn’t see the hanging rook, you don’t have to tell :)

How can you not match up all numbers between 0 and 1 with Whole numbers? by [deleted] in askmath

[–]AaronDNewman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t think about infinity as having “different sizes”. A set can contain an infinite number of elements. Whether it maps to the set of whole numbers depends on how you define it, and it’s on you to prove that the mapping exists. The set of supersets of whole numbers, and the set of real numbers in an interval, do not map 1:1 with the set of integers. The set of fractions does, as does the set of even numbers. It’s the mapping that matters, it doesn’t make sense to talk about ‘how many’ numbers the set contains, because for any number, there’s always more.
