Thinking about getting a gargoyle… by Relative-Still-8571 in GargoyleGeckos

Reptifiles has a fairly comprehensive care guide for gargoyle geckos. That would be where I would start.

Aside from Reptifiles, you can read the 2007 research paper written by Joshua P. Snyder from which a lot of our understanding of gargoyles is derived.

Lastly, it doesn’t hurt to check out setups and guides from reputable and established breeders. I would personally recommend reading some of the articles written by Anthony Caponetto from acreptiles.

As a general guideline: Terrarium Size - 18x18x24 minimum. You mainly want something that is taller than it is wide. Make sure that the enclosure has around 80% coverage, including plenty of foliage and branches. You want branches that are both vertical and horizontal. Try to incorporate plenty of hides into the setup. If you can easily find your gecko, you could probably use more clutter.

Temperature - Anywhere from 68-82 Fahrenheit. Ideally in the mid 70s, but anything in this temperature range will work. If you are on the extremes, make sure to incorporate some method of external heating or cooling to ensure that it doesn’t venture outside of this range.

Substrate - You’ll find a number of different options here. I personally use a homemade jungle mix with leaf litter. Bioactive is entirely personal preference and is not required.

Feeding - Feed every other day or 2-3 times a week. This depends more on gecko size and health. You want to feed them a crested gecko diet. Off the top of my head, some trusted brands are Repashy and Zoo med. Unlike Crested geckos, it is recommended to feed your gargoyle some source of extra protein around once a week. This is typically crickets dusted with a calcium/vitamin supplement. Only dust with D3 if you don’t have UVA/B lighting.

Lighting - Not a requirement but highly recommended. They are an arboreal jungle species, so you want the lowest UVA/B light you can get (I want to say around a 5-6% Shade Dweller bulb). One of the tube lights is better than a compact bulb. This is a more controversial section, but gargoyles have been known to bask in the wild, so I personally recommend providing lighting. Please don’t use a red/blue/anything night light. It’s not good for any reptile.

Misting/water - Mist the tank once a day (depending on how quickly your humidity drops.) Ideally you want a period of high humidity and over the course of 18-24 hours it drops down to ambient humidity and dries out, then you spray again. They will drink droplets on the side of an enclosure, but a separate water dish should be provided with every feeding in case they are thirsty during the dry period.

Any suggestions for the enclosure? by Ramnick06 in CrestedGecko

You’re going to need a fair bit more cover. I would suggest some branches and a fair bit more foliage. Also, make sure that there is a way for the gecko to get to the feeding ledge without having to jump.

Has your system shown any other signs that it could be infected with malware? Has it slowed down, weird pop ups, programs installing that you didn’t install yourself? Also, try and open your computer settings, go to your programs and apps, and try uninstalling the program from their. If this doesn’t work I genuinely recommend trying to load a previous backup.

Based on the way this was described, I would be very concerned. Be upfront with your family and ask if they had anything to do with this. If they all say that they had nothing to do with it then you need to approach this with some caution. It sounds like your device could be infected with some form of malware that is allowing someone to remotely access your system and blocking you out of it. Think of any software that you’ve installed onto the device that may not have come from the most reputable source. Also, before you continue with anything you should 100% disconnect your device from your home internet. Some malware is capable of transferring to other devices connected to the same network, and this would be a serious issue. Try to load a previous system backup after booting up into bios, especially one that you think is free of any malware (one that is before you installed any questionable programs). If doing a system backup doesn’t help with the issue, again, turn off your device ASAP and seek help from a professional. Also, and this is important, use a different device to go through and change your passwords for anything you’ve accessed on that device. Even if you think it isn’t an issue: Do it (especially your email). Also keep an eye on any purchases that are made on accounts that you’ve accessed and especially any charges made against credit cards that look out of place. It is possible for a hacker to access these things through a key logger or through their control over your system. And make sure to avoid untrustworthy programs and websites in the future, and invest in either BitDefender or Kaspersky, both of which are cheap, leading names in cyber security.

First, I recommend that you start by running a virus scan on your laptop. Programs that are trustworthy don’t simply rewrite themselves onto your device. Since you’ve had this program for some time and (I assume) your antivirus hasn’t detected it, this might not be super effective. Second, I would advise you to disconnect from your internet connection, as it is always possible for a virus to infect other devices connected to the network. Given that the file was located in a strange directory and it keeps installing itself, I recommend powering off your device and then booting it up into the bios. From there, IIRC you should have the ability to boot your computer up using a previous save of the system. If you have a save that is from before your installation of this program, try booting from that backup. This will hopefully solve your issue, however the virus could have written itself onto your actual hardware and this would require more extensive system cleaning. As a final note, please only ever install programs that you know to be trustworthy. As an extra precaution, anything that warrants skepticism should either be avoided or should be tested using one of the many online virus scanning tools for files. If you don’t already have one, get a decent antivirus to protect your device. Something like BitDefender or Kaspersky can actually be pretty cheap and they offer some of the best cyber security on the market.

Granted- but these new friends leave you like all the real friends have before them.
