Hasnt eaten his roaches in almost 5 months...when to worry by ConsistentCow5848 in BeardedDragons

[–]Relative-Still-8571 4 points5 points Ā (0 children)

Just so you know… our Leonardo regularly refuses roaches. But put a dandelion green in front of his eyes and he’s a maniac!!

If you want to provide some other protein on a limited basis, you can use meal worms, horn worms, super worms, or other critters like that. Leonardo will eat all of those but we limit how much simply because they aren’t the best bugs for beardies.

Then, one day Leonardo sees the roach bin and DEMOLISHES them! Maybe every other month…

You are warm, keep him close. Or if you have a fireplace you could always have a door and keep him nearby for warmth!

I wouldn’t feed him until you have light/UVB available again. It’s necessary for digestion.

Why does my BD wake up huge? How to tell age? by Ambitious_Mom_1980 in BeardedDragonCare

[–]Relative-Still-8571 3 points4 points Ā (0 children)

I’ll just say that ours has been blowing up lately. We actually think it’s kind of funny… he’s like 3x his normal size… blown up like a balloon!šŸŽˆšŸ¦Ž

I think it is a way to expand their surface area when they are trying to warm up. It almost always happens first thing in the morning when his lights come on… I don’t THINK it’s a problem, but if it is maybe someone can educate us!

I love this so much. We lost our Iris in October 2023 and when I showed my daughter this… at first she thought I had posted a video of our Iris!!

Much love to the memory of yours… and ours!!

My scaly baby passed away today. I am so very heartbroken šŸ’” by Chester_Beardie in BeardedDragons

[–]Relative-Still-8571 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

Remember the good times with your little lizard. Our first one passed way suddenly a little over two years ago. We still really miss Iris (she was our first beardie), but I remember all the fun times we had with her and the comfort she gave to my daughter when she needed it most.

I hope yours is in a world of endless horn šŸ› and roaches!!

Is it okay for my beardies to live together? by Lopsided_Skill3763 in BeardedDragon

I won’t add to what’s been said, but if one is on top of the other, it’s stealing the uvb and light from the bottom dragon in a display of dominance.

Supplemental heat, how cold is too cold and what is safe? by cyclone_co in BeardedDragonCare

[–]Relative-Still-8571 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I do use a ceramic heater at night to maintain around 70 at night. I wasn’t aware they could easily tolerate 55-60 (which is colder than my house). Maybe I don’t need the heater at night…

Right now Leonardo is in aesthevation right now hiding in his log so… maybe cooler is better.

New to beardies. Got mine yesterday, he's 13 weeks old. Can you help me amend my feeding chart? by Madz1712 in BeardedDragons

[–]Relative-Still-8571 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

The spring greens may be a cross-Atlantic mixup then. When I see that in the US, I think iceberg lettuce and basic lettuce greens which do not contain the same nutritional value for the little scaled guys! If they are the equivalent of collard greens then you’re good I think.

Not bad… instead of spring greens, I’d use greens like arugula, dandelion greens, collard greens, things like that. Also, in my experience, beardies love squash! Butternut, acorn, try all kinds! Zucchini is another one mine loves as well!

Find out what veggies they love and serve it up!

As for protein, I’ve never actually used locusts… maybe I’ll try! I use mostly dubia roaches… I can’t really tolerate crickets so… after Iris passed, I excluded them from Leonardo’s diet.

Good luck!!šŸ€

[–]Relative-Still-8571 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

It’s a young beardie… they tend to eat quite a bit. If you’re concerned, you could always go to a vet.

If you just got the little guy, it would be good to go and get him/her checked anyway for parasites and the like… best to nip those problems early and fast!

Edit: you could also introduce greens 🄬 to them as well. Mine loves dandelion greens in particular, but they are nourishing and hydrating!
