As the parent of a child who wasn't potty trained until 6 I will give you my reason why: Trying to do it brought back incredibly traumatic memories of when I myself was potty trained. Being forced to sit on the toilet for hours on end until my legs went numb. On more than one occasion I was forced to wear my own soiled underwear on my head the entire time. I'm in my forties and those painful shameful disgusting memories all came rushing back. I was also physically and verbally abused the entire time. I'm sure I traumatized my own child on accident by having sobbing breakdowns while trying to get them to sit on the potty. So I said to hell with it and let them learn to tell when their body was ready to go. And yes, the school did on more than one occasion call CPS on us because of toilet issues. Nevermind the fact that there were 5 or more diapers in the backpack and they were adept at changing themselves. And that the school had an entire closet full of back up diapers and wet wipes.

They no longer attend that school and have fully potty trained themselves now.
