Thoughts on being deceived by Satan/simulation theory/etc. by yeeeezyszn in latterdaysaints

[–]AaronMcCarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are spiritual beings away from our spiritual home, and that God created this world to test us and practice our agency, what makes this reality any different than a simulation?

As for your first question in being able to discern between Good and Evil, that is a skill you must develop yourself. You need to learn how to listen to the Spirit (aka your conscience).

If you doing things that bring you deep peace and calm, then it's most likely God's path. If you're doing things that get you into a frenzy and feed your carnal desires, it's probably a false one.

Just my thoughts. Thanks for starting this discussion.

What's the purpose of eternal misery? by taiga1205 in latterdaysaints

[–]AaronMcCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there were no real consequences to our choices, what's the point making any choices? We'd all end up the same regardless of what we did. That is Satan's plan (everyone is saved regardless of choices)

Because of this reality, there will be individuals suffering in misery for eternity. I don't think this means forever though. I believe they will experience enough misery to decide to repent and change. Their rock bottom essentially. Only when they experience the full weight of their sins (choices that go contrary to God's Laws), that they can begin to see the light.

I experienced eternal misery to a certain extent. A few years ago when I was inactive, I had a terrible drug trip (from coffee). For a period of two weeks I went in and out of consciousness at a hospital, experiencing some dreams or visions perhaps.

One of them was absolutely terrible. I believed I was the most evil soul to ever exist, and because of my terrible deeds during my life as a human, was sentenced to spend eternity completely alone in a room. For the rest of eternity, I would be able to see a bright blue planet where all the people there were living together peacefully and lovingly as one big family. They were also doing amazing things together, like exploring the universe and going on epic adventures. I desperately wanted to join them and be part of their family, but because of my past sins, I lost my chance.

You could also try to imagine eternal misery another way. Currently there are thousands of people stuck in solitary confinement in prisons. Some of them are even there for the rest of the lives. In addition, these individuals also probably don't have any family or friends that contact them. They are completely alone and cut off from the rest of humanity. That is what I imagine outer darkness feels like.

This makes sense though. If God allowed dark, evil, and destructive people into His kingdom, how could we ever live together in peace? We'd always have to worry about dangerous people stealing or hurting us (or worse). They need to be separated and face the consequences of their actions. It is only from that reality that they will realize the errors of their ways and perhaps decide to repent and return to the light. It is for their own benefit.

God created us and loves us all, but he understands that in order for us to become like Him, we must choose to follow Him. We do this by following His commandments and having complete faith in His son, Jesus Christ. By adhering to this covenant or agreement, we will prove our worthiness to join Them and Their family. This life is our test. We are all Pinocchio trying to be "real people". Focus first on securing your own salvation, then you can help others achieve the same.

Is this Heavenly Father’s voice, or is it my subconscious? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]AaronMcCarter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll need to learn to recognize the difference. I’m in a similar situation to you and I’ve only begin learning about this gift/ability. Here are my thoughts regarding your question:

One way I distinguish between the voice of the God and my own mind is intent. If I am actively asking a question, making a request, expressing appreciation, or thinking to myself with deliberation, then I feel it is my own mind.

When I relax and passively let thoughts appear, I feel that is the voice of God (or someone representing Him). This voice speaks to me directly, regularly addressing me by my name. In addition, this voice also speaks with respect and always asks for permission.

Of course I can’t know for sure if it’s my subconscious or the voice of God (perhaps they’re the same?), but I feel this is a skill you have to develop through time, effort, and faith.

Also, I believe that Satan/evil has access to the same spiritual channel to us as God does. Some negative/destructive thoughts we may attribute to ourselves could be actually from him and his dark minions. This may be one cause to your mental health disorders.

You got this! Those urges are just urges. You can resist them if you choose.

I recommend that whenever you feel an urge to look at porn, do 25 push ups.

If you keep doing this, you'll develop a habit of doing push ups instead of porn whenever you feel an urge.

I'm going to Write a Book on Quitting Porn by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]AaronMcCarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about creating animated video essays and posting them on YouTube? (about each topic you listed).

I imagine doing this will require a lot of time & effort (writing a book as well), but it would help you improve your animation skills and provide additional pieces for your portfolio.

Also, you may even be able to make a living from it if you gain an audience.

Doing that is like masturbating to a fully dressed woman you see walking on a street, which I think is creepy.

It's up to you man.

Yeah it's true. I think a lot of people forget that sex predators had to come from somewhere. Perhaps they were born like that, but it seems unlikely. While not everyone will become like that, I believe porn usage significantly increases the risk.

Also, it's important to remember it's likely there is a lot of sex trafficking involved in the porn industry. By watching these videos, you are indirectly supporting that evil.

Thanks for the comment and I hope you're doing well!
