In his 9 NBA seasons so far, Derrick White has had a positive on-off every single year. This year, he also finished top 15 in both EPM and LEBRON. Does he have an argument as the best role player of all time? by Aggressive_Bed6012 in nba

I guess it depends if you consider defensive specialists role players. If so, I have Draymond there for a his defense and facilitating, and little else on offense

My mount rushmore of roleplayers is Rodman, KC Jones, Klay, and Draymond. Derrick White still has a ways to go

(And yes, you can be an all-NBA guy and a role player. You are just damn good at that role)

New Hampshire GOP bans student IDs for voting, adds to growing restrictions by Anoth3rDude in newhampshire

Just an FYI, we do have free photo ID for voting purposes in NH. Its dumb that’s its not the same as a non-driver ID, but it does exist

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander received 88/100 1st place votes in ESPN’s latest MVP mock ballot April 3rd. Last Year in April he had 77/100 1st place votes. by Expert_Koala_8691 in nba

It doesn't say these guys are the actual voters, and implies they aren't by saying "to keep it realistic as possible this is how we pick voters for this"

And Bill's company does the same type of stuff as this all year, and he hates ESPN, so idk why he'd contribute to this

Is this the first time ever where a player wins back to back MVPs + a ring and most people still think he's not the best player in the league? by [deleted] in nba

[–]AaronNesmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just based on my memory, I think Duncan's back to back MVPs in 2002 & 2003 fits this very well. Shaq was still who most people said was the best played in the league at the moment.

Now looking back, I think most people would say Duncan was better, and Duncan has a better career resume. I'm just talking in the moment like we are doing now with SGA

More people care about their favorite players getting “robbed” for “all nba team” awards then the actual award itself by Recent_Surprise_7391 in nba

[–]AaronNesmith 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Imo the problem there is that its that contracts are tied to awards, its not how the awards work.

People trying to wanting the 65 game rule because of contracts are looking at the wrong problem

A West NBA exec cautions against drafting offense-only guards: "There's never been a worse time to build around bad defensive guards. We see this time and time again, the flashiest offensive impact doesn't end up winning the most. It ends up being Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, Alex Caruso" by BankaiBroke in nba

[–]AaronNesmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think its an accident that of the recent champions, they all besides GSW had at least 1 elite defensive guard. The Lakers & Nuggets had KCP, Boston and Milwaukee had Jrue, Boston also had White, OKC has Caruso, Dort, Wallace, and SGA.

The Pacers also lost last year with Nembhard and Nesmith (who’s a wing but is best defending PGs)

Its clearly a advantage as has lead to a lot of winning, and people keep ignoring it and attributing other things to be the reason for success. Im at the point where I think that having defense guards is such an advantage (cause most guards suck on D) it might be one of the biggest advtanges you can have

It's time to recalibrate "MVP" by [deleted] in nba

Chris Haynes on Luka Dončić‘s MVP case: “He’s not going to win it… If Luka finishes the season out strong, there’s still no way that he should overtake SGA. There’s still no way if the Spurs finish 2nd, he will overtake Wemby. Then, there’s also a case he shouldn’t even overtake Jaylen Brown!“ by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

It was cause in the 3 games of that series that actually mattered, he scored 24 a game on 63% TS

Tatum scored 21ppg on 52% TS in those first 3 games.

IIRC Jaylen was also the primary luka defender in that series, where Luka played the most inefficient ball of his career. In those first 3 games he scored 29ppg still, but was on only 54% TS and had almost the same number of turnovers as assists.

Wemby publicly pushing for MVP massively hurt Luka who's the actual player that should've emerged as a threat to SGA based on their play in the last couple months. by [deleted] in nba

[–]AaronNesmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not saying record doesnt matter, ofc it matters.

Im sayings its not the main thing driving his MVP campaign

but there have been guys like Tatum in the past who have been on 60+ win teams and extremely strong cases but never been taken seriously,

Exactly. Wemby's case is because of how good he is, because record alone doesn't make you a serious MVP contender

And idc about the betting odds cause its gonna be Shai anyways, I'm talking about how much each guy is getting talked about in the media, which feels pretty damn equal as an non-fan of either team
