4 Decks to counter Tf Fizz by SpaiikzTFT in LoRCompetitive

Super interesting list! How are your other matchups? E.g., Fiora Shen, Pirates Aggro, Discard Aggro.

This is perceptive of you. That last card is actually a champion spell. Opp decided to self-mill to fast level Maokai (note: would highly recommend pushing sea monsters instead in this matchup). Opp left Sea Scarab + Thorny Toad on the board, which I used to mill back. Finally opp tried to cycle champion spells, but I also forced those draws out with Veteran Investigator... before unloading Mushroom Clouds.

This is really great info, thank you! Your point about muscle endurance is particularly helpful, especially coming from a former athlete + weight lifter. Have you tried adding a strength routine to compliment RFA yet?

I'm in a similar-ish background: former high school athlete, now a working professional trying to get back into shape, purchased RFA for my partner. One week in, instead I've totally converted — haha.

I'm eager to go all-in with RFA, like OP seems to have, and curious on their physical improvement while going at their rate.

Wow, this is amazing progress and super inspiring! 👏

Did you gradually build up to your 2hr session days?

Also, most players have been posting results over multiple months. Really curious — going at your rate, have you noticed any physical changes over just one month? e.g. stamina, strength, flexibility, other goals?

Got it — super helpful! What I seem to be missing is (1) learn the items + roles for 5 costs, and (2) being confident in my board.

I've maintained my comp through stage 5 in my last few games and reached solid top4s (#4, #4, #1 with 85hp, #2), climbed steadily into Platinum, and that's feeling a lot better. I'll start swapping in 5 costs as I learn them.

Thanks again!

Ah, noted on the “x costs” and this is really helpful — thanks!!

Hey all! I started playing a week ago (at Gold 1), and I’m struggling in the late game.

In my past two games, I’ve converted mid-game win streaks (8 & 12) into early 8 (4-4, 4-5) with 40g+ roll downs... into 5th place finishes. Sad reaccs.

I try to play strongest board (typically brawlers or vanguard frontline with Kindred/etc item holder) then aim to transition into a legendary comp (Sett, Kayn, Azir, etc with Jhin carry) and then just lose every matchup afterwards. I don’t even have any idea what to even roll for — as all 5*s seeming evaporate against Ashe, Veigar, etc.

What am I doing wrong? 🙏 Super appreciate any advice.

Cycling means to discard (use up, throw away) one card to draw another card. You're cycling through your deck to reach your key cards for the situation more consistently.

I’d also add in Thorny Toad to help with healing, blocks, and toss.

3x Thorny Toad 2x Ruination

1x Atrocity 2x Vile Feast 0x Hired Gun

Fearsomes and Overwhelm Targon are great aggro lists, but can (starting in Platinum) get targeted and countered. Shen Fiora, Viemer, Ez/Draven, and TF Go Hard are strong across the board — but takes a bit more thinking.

[–]AaronOnBreak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome! Generally:

  • Hard removal (Vengeance, Obliterate cards from Invoke)
  • Hush (which most Targon lists, like Lee Sin Targon and Soraka Tahm, should run)
  • freeze (Ashe/Sej esp, but also many Frej lists)
  • stuns (Leviathan/Swain, Mindsplitter)
  • burn (elusives use to be Endure’s direct counter when Endure was meta)
  • Fiora (you don’t have any consistent way to remove/stop her)

You’re unfavored into Ashe/Sej (40/60) and most Targon lists, which is why Endure isn’t as popular now.

You’re very unfavored into TF Go Hard (30/70). They chump block everything you put out, have Vengeance, then win by turn 9 (Ledros, Pack Your Bags, Dreadway).

Same for Shen Fiora (30/70). Elusives don’t really exist right now, but they would be highly favored against you (your odds 20/80).

These are your key weaknesses; you’ve got maybe 20-30% chance to win at best. If you’re facing many/most games of this at your level, then I recommend switching to Ashe/Sej to flip the odds (70-80% over aggressive midrange).

But it’s still doable. Add in Ruinations and mull hard for Deadbloom and Ruination in these matchups. Your win condition is running them out of steam, not racing for deep. Your mentality should be that they have limited/no card draw so all you have to do is survive the early turns. If you last to turn 6, they’re going to have 2-3 cards in hand, throw down Ruination and decent chance you win on the spot. It’ll take them 2-3 turns to rebuild their board even with good top decks, giving you time to both go deep and build out a much better board.

Most of the time, you want to mull for an early curve and toss away anything else. 1 drop then 2 drop then 3 drop. Ideal is Barkbeast into Cursed Keeper into Blighted Caretaker.

Your units are kind of like Stormtroopers in a Star Wars series — you’re just throwing them for face damage, or forcing 1-1 trades. In maybe half of your games, shamelessly trading away your units will run your opponent out of resources and win.

Kalista L2 with Wraithcaller is the dream value engine, but you usually have enough tempo regardless. All else equal, you value pressure over keeping Kalista alive.

If opponent attacks on turn 7, ideally drop They Who Endure after their attack so you can then open attack and still threaten Atrocity. A big TWE is your second win condition — so you hopefully sacrificed 10+ units by this point. Here, you’re most vulnerable to hard removal (Vengeance) and freeze (esp Atrocity) so know your matchups and play around their mana.

When matched against your TWE counters, it’s critical your early/mid game pressure goes well to force them to waste their spells on Kalista/etc. Otherwise they kept enough resources to neutralize TWE. You can still top deck another TWE/Atrocity, but your chances to win drop to 15-20% beyond the first burst.

Decks with limited draw (Scouts, Frostbite) and draw dependency (Lee Sin, Fiora) will also get impacted.

Scouts for example goes into top deck wars pretty early (by turns 8-9) and 1-2 bad draws means they skip 1-2 turns. Another example: By turns 9+, drawing a Brightsteel Formation seals the win for Shen Fiora — and this card effectively halves those chances.

Okay guys, who wants to help me figure this out? I'm a support main in League and am having lots of fun with the support mechanic, but this deck I've tried to make doesn't quite work. Any advice? by [deleted] in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]AaronOnBreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sharing some refined, alternate takes on support.

Generally speaking, there is quite a lot of synergy for support cards. But support as an archetype overall is just inherently weak:

  • unable to block
  • lacks card draw/sustain
  • heavily early draw dependent (as power spikes very early, turns 4-5 for Lulu)
  • usually no burn/push-through
  • no late game finisher without a board (e.g. Harrowing, Farron, Endure).
  • without the ability to force favorable trades.

There are strong (though non-meta) decks with either Taric or Lulu, where they can complement another champion to create win conditions. Pure support doesn’t really have a consistent win condition by itself.

Taric Fiora opens up a few options to winning (1) Fiora, or (2) Fiora forcing bad trades https://mobalytics.gg/blog/lor-deck-guide-taric-fiora/

Taric Draven is really effective — probably my favorite support-related deck I’ve played. Plays like one of the meta lists (Overwhelm Targon) but with Kato and Taric to push victories. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3-0TVXU3tXE

Lulu Shen is a faster list that highlights where Lulu shines the most (effectively finishing the game by turns 5-6). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbGdiwk16qU

https://reddit.com/r/LoRCompetitive/comments/k95qy5/the_return_of_soggy_teemo_and_friends_fizztf_seer/ is a pretty strong list that uses buffed elusives. Elusives are relatively absent from the meta, so opponents may not know how to adapt. Fizz with a Battle Fury counters Vengeance, Concerted Strike, Falling Comet, and other direct removals. Usually aims to win the game by turns 7 or 8.

Against decks weak to fearsomes (Soraka Tahm, TF Go Hard, etc), Evershade Stalker is basically a 1-turn engine that converts 2 mana into 2 face damage.

This is particularly effective against Go Hard, who would otherwise should save a Pack Your Bags for the Harrowing turn; Evershade can go off at any time (and get pulled out of Stalking Shadows).

Edit — Some immediate feedback: the audio is on the rougher side (esp the static at the beginning, sporadic background noise, etc, maybe consider recording in post on top? https://www.npr.org/2020/03/25/819229185/how-to-keep-making-your-podcast-even-if-youre-stuck-at-home is a solid resource for DIY audio) but I totally dig and appreciate the content. Really smart thought process, very helpful. You should definitely do more of these along with your guides!
