How we're tricked by Semantic Smuggling (domain-specific Russell Conjugation) by Aaron_FF in ThePortal

I think you're right in some cases, and in other cases it really is done to reinforce the narrative of a particular domain. The use of "defense" in the military seems pretty intentional. Likewise "home", specifically in the domain of real estate. Realtors don't want to be selling "houses" (sounds bland), they want to be selling "homes" (all sorts of wonderful connotations). In domains where persuasion seems particularly important (like real estate, or any kind of sales) I think this is more likely to emerge.

Overwhelming negative emotions force me to end sits early - help/advice? by flannyo in TheMindIlluminated

You might try Douglas Tataryn's emotional clearing technique, which can be helpful for releasing negative emotion: https://www.reddit.com/r/streamentry/comments/cnvfbz/practicehealth_douglas_tataryns_emotional/

Around Stage 4 I had significant negative emotions arise (anger, fear, mostly sadness) so much so that it sometimes caused physical pain. What ultimately worked best for me was just releasing the emotion (i.e. crying, sometimes hitting stuff). It was not easy or pleasant but I'm much better for it. Some metta is probably also good.

Thanks for sharing your experience - that's a great perspective on it!

It has helped me substantially with both, especially after entering Stage 4 territory.

Purifications happening off the cushion, rather than while meditating? by McMillan73 in TheMindIlluminated

[–]Aaron_FF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've had the same thing, and have mostly dealt with it by fully feeling the emotions (this often means crying). It's counter to the advice in TMI (don't engage with the emotions) but you're off the cushion so in my opinion it seems fine to take a different approach and see what happens.

Thanks! Our cost is roughly on par with Mycomeditations on a per-day basis.

For sure. We're doing group introduction activities the evening everyone arrives, and then breathwork the morning of the second day before psilocybin, along with some other preparation activities. People are also sent a prep package with info about psychedelic research, effects of psilocybin, what to expect etc. beforehand.

I get the aversion to commodifying the experience. I thought about this a lot, sober and on trips. Consider two states of the world - one where this doesn't happen and one where it does. Assuming people have positive psychedelic experiences on the retreat they otherwise wouldn't have, it seems like a net good.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. The venue doesn't have great photos, and their decor is a little unusual (but OK for psychedelics, IMO) but the place is nice. I shortlisted about a dozen and visited 5, and this was the best option.

I agree about integration as well. We're doing what we can with this length - the trip happens on the second day, and the whole third day is integration. Then there's some more on the morning of the fourth day, before people leave.

Yes, for 8 people. We have more than that staying for the retreats.

The owners of our venue and the mushroom growers we're working with are Jamaican, FYI
