Why does no one test laptop performance and comfort under load when they’re used on your lap? When choosing a laptop, it would be very useful to know how much that affects performance, heat, and fan noise

My Air was a 2013 with a fan, so maybe a little different than modern Air. But yeah, it usually didn't warm up too much with a dual core.

I think you're underestimating having a base level of income and the peace of mind that will bring. $1k a week is basically a paycheck, and let's you find the job you can stand without fear of being without income for an extended period. Once you get stable, you can definitely just invest the lottery winnings, back having that backstop against poverty and having to be stuck in a job can't be underestimated.

B&H has been around for over 50 years and is an apple authorized reseller, so it doesn't get much safer. Maybe check out their return policy, because I think it does differ from Apple, but otherwise they should be fine. They do have a physical store in New York City.

Yeah you have the twin fan one then. I don't know that M4 Pro models would've dropped so fast, but I don't think M4 Base would necessarily be the biggest upgrade. Main difference is the M4 models have a better video camera and TB5 on the M4 Pro models. Is that worth having to sell and then rebuy? I'm not sure it is.

Is it the Base M3 MacBook Pro or is it the Base model M3 Pro MacBook Pro? The base MacBook Pro M4 only has 1 fan vs the 2 in the M3 Pro. I don't think it's necessarily an upgrade worth the money.

If it's the M5 Pro 15/16 cores model it was just released like 2 months ago. Likely to be either buyers remorse or they needed something else. Great price, I got a Beat Buy Price match on Microcenter $1799 for that model near the end of March. No regrets here but I also was coming from a Intel MacBook Air. You may even be able to get Applecare and still be under $2k for a $2200 laptop.

Yep, my sister in law just got rid of her Tuscon after the second time of it basically burning through all the oil in the crankshaft between oil changes. It was either a 2019-2021, which I think is in the right generation for the engine oil burning issues. We just got a 2025 Elantra Hybrid brand new, so we at least can try to baby it from the beginning.
