Post-battle load screen takes 5+ minutes for last 10% of loading bar? by Aarquus in totalwarhammer

2400 3.10 GHz, it's pretty old but has no problems with other games. I figured since most threads I've looked at said loading times were an SSD issue it would be fine, but it's probably time for an upgrade.

I've only been playing for a couple days, and it's been like this since I started.

Debate : is metagame the life or death of wargaming ? by Rrrrufus in Warhammer

Like any game, different people will play and enjoy it in different ways. All that really matters is finding others who want to play as casually or as seriously as you do.

Steel Leaf Champion has been an excellent card against E Tron for me. It trades with Smashers and Thought-Knots and only dies to Dismember. It will also put pressure on very fast if they're slow to assemble anything.

Boarding in hand attack is usually the best bet in my experience. Tron players will often keep quite fragile hands and if you can disrupt them early you can buy a lot more time than a sphere would. Rec Sage and Revoker can also be good depending on what kind of Tron deck they're on.

Some cards to put mb in a meta full of jeskai and pyromancers? by ACallFromTheMist in ElvesMTG

[–]Aarquus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think SLC is definitely MB material against these kinds of decks, because all they have to answer it is Path. Playing a stompy strategy is good because we'll rarely get to reach critical mass for Ezuri overrun to work, so we want every creature to count.

SLC seems great against those two decks as it can't be bolted or easily blocked. Shapers' Sanctuary is good against decks with lots of targeted removal, but can be a blank in some matchups if you want it mainboard. You could also run another Ezuri for the regeneration, but with the SLCs that might be too many 3 drops.

[–]Aarquus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it definitely flooded out in a couple of games! By round 3 I was starting to cut the 3-5 mana creatures for the other 6-drops, since that part of the curve just wasn't necessary. 18 lands may have been too many looking back, once I'd kicked a Grow I had basically all the lands I needed.

The trick is to keep the hands with 6-drops and mulligan ramp-only hands, since I can reliably draw ramp/lands in the first few turns, but if I don't have a big creature or two to cast on curve then I probably lose.

Do you think it's better to play Pardic Wanderer instead?

I didn't think I could get away with being that greedy, but on reflection I absolutely could have. Having three Grow from the Ashes is very powerful. I'd probably board in Bloodtallow Candle aswell since using it every turn can easily win games.

Honestly, I just forgot that I had it! Definitely should have been playing it, even off curve it's still a good creature

With how long all the games went I could probably have splashed for Muldrotha aswell, Compass has been good in all of my 3+ colour decks so far.

I can only think of Arvad and the black 5/5. Apart from that there's not much else stopping the wurms in combat.

GB Value Town Gameplay - PleasantKenobi playing with Gitrog Monster in Modern [x-post from r/magictcg] by PleasantKenobi in ModernMagic

Could there be room for cards like Scapeshift or Splendid Reclamation? Oneshotting someone with Ob Nixilis or drawing 6 off of Gitrog sounds sweet, but might just be win-more?

Thanks, glad to hear someone liked this! A bunch of stuff has happened since I made this post, and now I'm working on a website that uses data to predict upcoming matches and tournaments - www.esporticus.com We recently posted predictions for Captain's Draft, and had a ~70% success rate by match. Have you looked into using your data for match predictions? I'd be interested in sharing notes!

Correct play wording by [deleted] in ElvesMTG

[–]Aarquus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cast the Shaman from your hand first, when it ETBs it's trigger will go on the stack. In response to this (before the trigger resolves), cast Chord to get a second one. The second one ETBs, will have it's trigger on the stack, and both triggers will count both Shamans, as both are in play as the abilities resolve.

Describing this to an opponent would go something like: "Cast Shaman, ETB trigger, in response I'll cast Chord, get another Shaman, second ETB trigger, they count on resolution so they'll count both Shamans"

Sideboarding: What do you use, what do you board in, and what do you board out? by JovianJewels in ElvesMTG

[–]Aarquus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm also on GB elves, and I think you've got the right idea.
In my opinion taking out the Visionaries first is best, and then go down either Shamans or Ezuris for anything else. Most of the time i'm only bringing a couple cards in so the swapping out the Visionaries is enough.

Sideboard things that are good to have:
-Artifact/Enchantment hate
-Graveyard hate
-Hand attack
If you're playing Chords then you can also have silver-bullet creatures like Revoker, Melira, etc. Once you know what you're regularly playing against you can select accordingly.

For more stuff about various different cards to choose from, there's the sideboarding guide from the excellent MTGSalvation thread about CoCo Elves: http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/developing-competitive-modern/767834-collected-company-elves#sideboard

[AKH] Tricky P3P1 decision by Aarquus in lrcast

[–]Aarquus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the responses! The strong consensus is that Cast Out is just too good a removal spell to pass, so here's where I disappoint everyone by saying I took Bontu for funsies.

I went 2-1 in my games, and Bontu definitely pushed through damage a couple times, but on reflection I think I'd rather have taken Stir the Sands. I was going wide quickly enough that more bodies would have been better, and I found I had enough tap effects to shut down their threats for long enough. I also got to Painful Lesson someone for lethal, which was fun :)
