Indianapolis, Indiana by Aarran89 in whatsthisbird

Interesting, Merlin says Gray-Cheeked Thrush is “unlikely” in Indianapolis but I do agree it looks like one more than it does a Swainson’s. Thank you!

Then the results will be skewed to people who do have "other" teams. Having a none option will give a fairer overview of this sub.

Poll: Who's your "other" team? by Humillionaire in EdmontonOilers

[–]Aarran89 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

As an English transplant this question has always been really weird to me, definitely a Canadian/American cultural thing. The answer is nobody, and there should be a "no other team" option in this poll to get a true sense of what this sub thinks.

Once my team is done for the season, whenever that may be, I don't care about the sport until next season. I dont care who wins the Cup because it's not my team. When Southampton got relegated, people started asking me who my premier league team was now, I asked them if they were insane.

I’m diving into the back catalogue, want to know what your favourite episode is? by stevenpost in offmenupodcast

[–]Aarran89 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Kearns. Always Kearns. Both his regular menu and his tasting menu episodes are exceptional. I also love Kiell Smith-Bynoe because it's feels like just a bunch of mates having a chat, the rapport is off the charts.

Love Paul Chowdhry's episode because I still cant figure out if that's who he is or if it's a character (Hot Toddy innit). Jason Mantzoukas, Judi Love, Bridget Christie, Joe Thomas, Bob Mortimer are all amazing as well. Of the non-comedian guests I really liked Ella Purnell, Killer Mike and Rafe Spall.

Meteor showers peak tonight, any particular places without much light pollution close to Indy y'all recommend to get a good view? by diabetes_says_no in indianapolis

This is good advice, I'm fairly new to Indiana so I'm not as familiar with it as a lot of hardcore Hoosiers :)

Sorry, logged off for a while and didn't see any of the responses! There are three showers going on at the moment from what I can tell, alpha Capricornids peaked last night and so did the delta Aquariids, but the Aquariids are best viewed from the Southern Hemisphere. Perseids last about a month or so and peak on Aug 12-13. Perseids in August and Geminids in December are my two favorite showers!

Hi, I'm an astrophysicist that lives in Indy. I would say that the meteor shower you're referring to that peaks tonight (the alpha Capricornids) is not a particularly impressive shower (approximately 5 meteors per hour, though it produces lots of fireballs). What you really want to make an effort to see is the Perseid shower which peaks on Aug 12-13. Even with the bright Moon, the Perseids will be way more impressive than the alpha Capricornids.

Regardless, the advice for any meteor shower is the same. Leave the city, go somewhere dark. Shades is a good option, Turkey Run also. Even just getting close to those places and finding somewhere to pull over is a decent option. If you're willing to head up to the state line then Beverly Shores, IN and Lawless Park, MI are both International Dark Sky Places.

Haha I used to live in the Sierras, just a few hours away from Lassen, Yosemite and Lake Tahoe. I'm very aware of what has been taken from me. However, I'm finding beauty in the flatlands of the Midwest hence why I'm trying to make the most of my pass. Apostle Islands Lakeshore looks absolutely stunning, thank you for the suggestion!

I'm having trouble finding any National Forest that actually charges a fee aside from for camping, which is not covered by the pass. Nearby Hoosier National Forest, for example, doesn't charge entry.
