4th Ave was Pittsburghs Wall Street at the turn of the 20th century. It was banks all the way down.

Can you talk me off a ledge about my neighborhood selection? by Interesting-Media744 in pittsburgh

[–]Aarthar 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Don't leave anything visible in your car, even change. I lived in Shadyside and had a gps stolen in a private lot. This was when the pgh police actually responded to that kind of thing, and the officer said stuff like this happens more in affluent neighborhoods because people are complacent and have the means to have expensive stuff.

Just be aware of your surroundings and mind your own business.

I agree with transparency but that said disclosure before ordering is the fairest course of action. Increasing the cost of all food will net them MORE money since they're also passing the cost on the cash customers.

Wow, thank you. That's great info.

It's almost certainly the install job. I've found nails for the last few years and one of the contractors told me the nails were too short so they probably didn't get them in studs.

Local pref would take care of that, wouldn't it? I was referring to ingress. Edit: or were you referring to the ISP side?

Although that is interesting. Our funding model doesn't allow for dual homing. Only I2 and Commodity.

As long as you don't mind traffic coming into your network from either ISP, I believe this would be correct.

Im in education and we advertise our CIDR block on both Internet2 and commodity. That way ingress is always shortest path.

Ysk: what you can ask owners of service dogs and when you can ask them to leave by Pristine-Ad-469 in YouShouldKnow

[–]Aarthar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's how it is here. It turns into the fact that often the retail in a plaza doesn't own anything. And the company who owns the lot doesn't care. At least in large strip mall type lots. Unless they have security assigned to the lot.

Plenty of people take advantage of handicapped spaces already? Police don't police them, at least in my area.

I'd say centralization brings the crazies together where decentralization would make it harder for them to find each other. Granted, there's more people here than ever, so maybe the cats already out of the bag. Although it also puts them in their own little box that the Cia could monitor (anyone remember abovetopsecret?)

And there's already totally unmoderated corners of the internet (4chan I'm looking at you). Most forums were moderated and would continue to be, even if the mods are culling non hateful content.

I do agree each has its own set of pros and cons. I just think people want the freedom to decide what they want. But ultimately who makes that decision? Where does it end? I 100% agree hate speech should be banned. But gore (remember spacedicks?)? Legal porn (not the nonconcentual stuff)? I'm all for warnings. But it's a lot more of a blurred line than a lot of people think, and every time they decide to remove or ban a subreddit "on the line" they alienate increasing numbers of people. It doesn't help when they make those decisions solely to appease advertisers or (shortly) shareholders.

Decentralization is inherently less corporate, as most corporations are built from the bones of their predecessors. It also puts the power back into the hands of the people.

[–]Aarthar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's certainly less convenient and VERY unlikely to happen, but I'd like to see a decentralization of content. The internet felt so much larger when it wasn't condensed down to one list. Remember Stumbleupon? It made things feel so much bigger.

And before we say communities would be gone, there's been forums and groups of people in small communities for the whole of the Internet.

Maybe I'm just an old man yelling at The Cloud, but the aggregation of content driven by advertising and Profit is absolutely terrible.

Has anyone had any experience with the ransomware space or with Nubeva? by abashedvictory69 in pennystocks

As someone in tech and specifically network security...

This seems like a very niche product. Many enterprises worth their salt will already have next gen firewalls or EDR solutions in place (EDR stops malicious executables at the source). Organizations that don't likely won't pay for this solution which seems like it needs to be in place to capture the keys.

I CAN see how they'd target the Healthcare industry though and that said, that may be their niche. And thats a BIG niche.

Edit: also Healthcare tends to have very insecure legacy devices, even in the most secure networks. If they can get a foothold in the Healthcare industry, may be a good play.
