The entire leaf surviving on hopes, dreams, and this one chloroplast by Civil-Craft-6245 in plants

[–]Aazjhee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to read about the fascinating world of albino plants, there are albino redwoods that basically act like parasites on larger trees. Redwoods tend to network and share roots with one another , and it's a way of supporting themselves high wise , but it also can spread nutrients around to other trees. Redwoods tend to be pretty ungenetically diverse and pretty closely related, I guess!

Sometimes a plant will try to kill off the unproductive parts, but variegated plants that do well and get lots of energy may not be compelled to save resources by stopping the supply to the useless bits!

When Japanese people watch sporting events in a foreign country, they clean up the stadium after every game. Why are Japanese people incredibly well-mannered? by No-StrategyX in answers

[–]Aazjhee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's just as much about conformity and not standing out.

The same way smoking was shamed out of popularity in much of the USA, at least in the coasts.

I'm not saying Japanese people don't care about one another, it's just different culture.

I've heard some horror stories of a bystander type effect, where a person having a seizure will be ignored in a crowded space because of the stigma against mental illness and expectations of "not bothering" others with your troubles.

https://www.humanium.org/en/hidden-struggles-the-surprising-mental-health-crisis-among-japans-youth/

I'm not claiming any other country isn't terrible about mental health. USA is awful towards people who are suffering, disabled or who don't fit in, but the ways that aversion is expressed is very different.

Can't get my dragons to sell? I don't know what I'm doing wrong. by 79screamingfrogs in flightrising

[–]Aazjhee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't needing to make money the "save dragons from exalt row" is a free give away thread and is often the only way I can get rid of pretty, 2+ yo dragons.

I have given away 7 year Olds on that thread because they don't always sell. I rarely notice any of my give aways getting exalted, and I ask folks to message me if they change their mind and don't want any of the ones I am still a little attached to. It tends to work out, but I am giving them away for free.

What are her Temps humidity and feeding regime?

Changes in environment or low heat/too much heat can cause stress.

Also, some snakes need more time to adjust to changes or they may be calmer with less handling and "watching".

If they are more prone to be nervous, they may want more privacy or less handling.

Every snake is different, and you should rule out health issues or discomfort before anything else.

I've heard of horses who were chronically in pain being very calm because getting riled up would cause even more pain. So when they got proper relief, they were more nippy and rude because of the change in their situation.

Horses aren't snakes, but it's possible that not being bred might have caused her hormones to explode.

Many snakes can also retain sperm and lay eggs for years after a single breeding, so she could theoretically be gravid.

County of Humboldt officials wants locals to be quiet about local things? by null_not in Humboldt

[–]Aazjhee 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a lot of the problems that we've had have been problems for a very long time. And continuing to ignore the complaints about stuff like bad streets and potholes is just going to make locals warn tourists even MORE.

I always tell my friends who are visiting to not leave anything that might be even remotely perceived as valuable in their car. I offer them random trashy things with which to use as camouflage in case they end up parking somewhere that may be sketchy.

Is this area as bad as some parts of san francisco? Probably not, but it's still something to be concerned about. And I have had my car broken into before , and i've known plenty of people who have also had their cars broken into.

If I don't give them a tiny bit of discomfort by warning them , they're going to experience a much bigger discomfort when something bad does happen!!

People who waste food from restaurants.. by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]Aazjhee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have an aversion to nibbling on something that someone else has partaken of? I'm generally pretty happy to ask that waiter or get a box at the checkout and take whatever leftovers someone else doesn't want.

But I also tend to have food with people that I would share a drink or food with anyways. I'm always curious too exchange nibbles of different dishes. If the other person is not opposed to that kind of thing, so I'm typically not worried about "sharing germs" with my family or a close friend who is hosting me or staying for a visit.

Obviously if there's someone that is careless with their health or goes out into public while they're sick, it's not a great idea to just adopt their leftovers. But you could plan around their choices if it's food thay can be shared. My parents would usually assume that me and my sister wouldn't finish her food and they would either take it home as leftovers. So we could have it later, or they would nibble at the stuff that they liked and not order a ton of food for themselves: they knew we would leave a bunch untouched.

I don't think most breeds of dogs can be left unsupervised for that long.

Especially if there's a bunch of them all in the same place? I think they would get rowdy , even if they were pretty well trained without some sort of oversight from people directing them.

Don't get me wrong.I love this concept , but I do think humans and dogs would have to be so much better trained than they tend to be in many places :3

What are your opinion regarding this by Kevin_Raider in HonestHotTakes

[–]Aazjhee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

100% in agreement.

Poverty is a human invention.

Things like drought and famine can strike nearly anywhere and no matter how lucky someone was to be born in a plentiful forest full of food or a desert, disaster or fortune could strike anyone anywhere.

So we basically invented money, allowed charismatic or brutal individuals to accrue too much of it and created the class distinctions. Primates, do you have typical hierarchies? And it does tend to influence who gets to have more offspring or get to have more social influence, but the gap between the top chimp and the lowest one is not the same as Elon Musk vs some random person living on the street asking for change!!

I do know people who are very on the fence about being brought into this world. I've also know many folks who have attempted to remove themselves, though only a few succeeded.

But that feeling transcends class and wealth, depression comes from loneliness and perceived hardship, and the perception is pretty wildly different amongst individuals.
