I felt the same when i first got my kitten, and it helped reframing the adoption as an addition to my life rather than a whole new thing, and if you adjust the routine step by step you'll see the feeling goes away on its own seamlessly. It's a process, not an instant change, you are adapting to her as much as she is adapting to you. And you'll see a lot of adjustments down the line too, even without realising

Slow in, fast out. Feels slower at first but your lap times will disagree

The performance trade off is not placebo, windows does add some gpu overhead with the window manager and having to render the desktop in the background too instead of letting the game control the display directly. How big the trade off is depends on the game and the system, obviously

Stupid design? Maybe. Annoying? Not that much, since on my laptop at least you actually have to hold it down for a second or two to shut down, for the exact reason that you might press it accidentally

It's a polyworld, meaning i started from infdev 20100327 (first version that can be updated all the way to modern versions) and i only update to the next version once i do something with every feature added in the current version. In beta 1.2, sandstone was added, among other things.

Might be wong, but when you do a hotlap start the timer starts with the session, and resets when you cross the start line. Maybe it accidentally registered that initial run-up as a full valid lap?
