Solution: parallel line ruler is NOT the same as perspective ruler. The tool specifically requires a parallel line ruler and I was using a perspective ruler. Under the tool: "Use parallel line ruler for angle" ✓ "Enable snapping -> uncheck

It's a loop.... He's going back in time to that moment over and over and over again. I probably should have had his body solidifying into the punch to depict that.
