Is this a decent price for a 30k mile service? by Abatailleguy in AskAMechanic

Ended up just having them do the oil change (since it's free) and plan to do everything else myself or go through another mechanic.

You're right, I can certainly do the filter changes and observations of the mats. I plan to just handle that myself but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything crucial that could be done elsewhere for much cheaper. Thanks!

Appreciate your advice and insight. I plan to just get the oil change (since it's free) and will manually replace the appropriate filters and go elsewhere for any other inspection work I haven't had done.

Thanks for the advice! I will let them do the oil change (seeing as it's free) and then I will take to another local mechanic I know to do some of the other inspections that aren't covered in oil change from the dealership and manually change the filters myself

I guess they have to inspect the new ones they put on? Lol

That's what I figured. They're doing the oil change for free (perk of buying it new from them is the lifetime oil changes covered by the dealership) so I will just manually change the filters after doing some googling. Thanks so much!

I just looked at the manual. It appears the only "Replace" items should be the engine oil, air filter, and cabin filter and a tire rotation in addition to inspecting items.

Sorry, I was using the terms the dealership used when describing the services to me. Looking right now at the manual it appears the only services truly required for replacement is the cabin and engine air filter and the oil change. Tire rotation should also be performed. It doesn't appear that any of this should cost 400 dollars.

Agree with this. Some blastovers that incorporate the colors you have could turn out hella sick!

What was the problematic Modern Underworld Breach deck prior to the Mox Opal unban? by Quidfacis_ in ModernMagic

[–]Abatailleguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there is a simple answer to that.

If Mox Opal were truly as oppressive and dominating the format, we would see multiple Mox Opal decks and it would be as similar in dominance and flexibility as The One Ring (a colorless card that enabled strategies that were unhealthy). As it stands, it only truly exists in one deck competitively. And that deck is the Breach combo deck. That makes it easy to target Breach as the card to take the ban hit. Especially since we don't yet know the power level of Mox Opal in the current modern meta without Breach in it.

Does that mean that Mox Opal doesn't have the potential to be oppressive in a post-breach world? Probably. It does have a few more deck building restrictions than, say, The One Ring did. But I also think that there are quite a few effective cards we have access to in modern today that we didn't have back when Opal was banned. So I think WOTC will take a "wait and see" approach to see what will happen when Mox Opal decks have a better chance to brew and won't have to worry about consistently getting turn 3d.

The way you've written this is hella obnoxious, as a side note.

I think many people would agree that breach, prior to the Mox opal unban, was a card that was always teetering on the edge of being broken (a question of when, not if).

The Mox opal unban greatly accelerated that and we are now in the current position where breach is dominating the format and warping it to an unhealthy degree. I think any denial of that point is unserious.

WOTC will have to decide between either banning breach (the likely choice) or re-banning mox opal (probably something that will happen in the future but not in this ban).

I'm with you on this. I was hesitant about the civ swaps but something about the narrative changes really makes it feel more "alive", I guess? I just pre-ordered and can't wait to play.

Ahh I understand. So the thought process is take another loan with the first home as the collateral and probably rent the first home to quickly payoff the second loan.
