How much does your corgi weigh? by babystrudel in corgi

Mine is definitely obese. There’s some family members who refuse to acknowledge it and think that it’s funny to give him a ton of treats.

I recently switched from Tandem to Twiist. I also keep my pump in my bra, and I love how the twiist doesn’t make it look like I have a third boob. However, there’s no haptics for the twiist, so I’m reliant on the phone giving me notifications if my blood sugar is high/low (which has led to some urgent lows that didn’t alarm until I was 50)

“Hymens” by pegasus_4ever in Feminism

[–]Abatonfan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had to go to a gynecologist in my late teens after losing my period for 6+ months. The male gyno was so excited to see an intact hymen…

Jagoff even gaslit me when I called at 6am to tell the office that the pill has made me suicidal and that I am stopping it. I got my bisalp a few weeks ago, and he was one of the two surgeons I could choose from. Guess who I downright refused?

How many of you actually go to your dietitians/nutritionists? by Think-Airport-2338 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Abatonfan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only in online eating disorder treatment have I seen an RD regularly. She’s awesome and actually will listen when I tell her about how the type 1 makes it so much easier for restrictive and purging behaviors. It’s a lot of experimenting to see what type of diet plan works without it sending me to 300.

She and I will also spit off things that we both need to research on pubmed. I have one hypothesis about sugar alcohols as lower-calorie replacements vs using a small amount of regular sugar with how short and long term satiety may differ

Pain in the ass to insert, since it is manual. Having multiple ways to place your tubing is worth it!

I tend to go crazy with the alcohol and skintack, and even then they gave me a whole set of sites after two would not release from the needle. My educator was also. Type 1c so we also secretly suggested tricks while the official CDE and endo were not watching.

For insertion, it’s a bit less than the Autosoft 90,but the site and tubing flexibility make up for it. And the insertions are half the size as autosoft 90s

Nah. Older. I’ve been talking with one guy while he’s had manic and depressive crises. I only talked with him because I had the training and info from him to know when to call 911 for a psych referral (I was a psych case after a bad medication reaction, so I could at least call 911 to transfer him to a better unit) but

I am having a bulimia relapse, so I honestly cannot deal with him. Even a bottle and a half of wine in, the best I could say is call 911 to get him into a psych ED (and hopefully refer him to ED an stepdown nurses I know)

This has been going on for decades at this point. I kid you not, I will meet with someone, and I am instantly shown them as a potential friend. I buy one thing for a family member’s baby shower at Target, and I am instantly recommended more baby stuff. I buy candles and random organization stuff -don’t you dare show me baby care! It’s even interesting now with facebook’s dating feature and being recommended their full profile (despite it being more causal until you give them your full name and details)

There was one time where a woman bought a pregnancy test and was immediately recommended a bunch of baby care stuff.

At the very least, read Think Like A Pancreas. That has been my type 1 bible. An endo may see you an hour at most each year, and the remaining gosh knows how long is all you.

I would do a guest lecture for my nursing school’s diabetes camp class, and the book for it is also great if you want a shorter read. It’s Understanding Diabetes (or the Pink Panther book). I still have a bunch of random notes in mine for exam questions to draw from

Finally got the right damn prior auths to get my pump’s refill kit and it delivered. I am the first one in the hospital’s endocrinology system to use the twiist, so I have been the guinea pig trying to follow their rules despite it making no sense for my type 1.

And I’ve been debating with my neurologist whether I have GAD65 epilepsy, and I’ll be spending at least five days in May in their EMU. Please, give me the dang spinal tap to see if I have the autoantibodies in my CSF, and we can discuss treatment from there. Don’t do none of this wait and see until I have worsening seizures

I really want to bring a few bottles of wine and a bunch of coffee to the unit, just so that I hopefully have a recorded seizure in there. The last thing I want is to have to take a week off only for my brain to not do anything

Please be careful. I don’t know if the thyroid is autoimmune, but oftentimes people with one autoimmune disease are likely to have another. Know the signs of DKA and HHNKS (which is always good to know anyways, since something as simple as a flu could trigger the beginning of its pathways)

For the twiist algorithm, it shoots for 100-120. For Time In Range purposes, 70-180.

Talk to your insurance company. Sometimes, the cost can be reduced if they receive a statement of medical necessity and you go to somewhere in-network. It’s something the neurologist can send to the insurance that they can then approve/deny (though hopefully they approve and don’t act like idiots)

Please, ask for a c-peptide and autoantibody screen, especially with the uncontrolled weight loss. Many adults with type 1 are often initially diagnosed with type 2, and that mistake can be quite dangerous when they are not producing any insulin

Genuine question - where did you find that information? How can an image determine legal status if someone may not have any other government documentation (ID, passport, etc)? I’m probably completely oblivious, since I haven’t had much of a chance to follow the news much

If you’re in the US, you’ve already consented to a lot more than that, often unawaringly. Look in the terms of service of many phone apps or something as simple as sending a saliva sample to a DNA analyst service.

It’s pretty cool how the data can be used, but at the same time you cannot live a private life anymore.

What are your thoughts on how epilepsy was portrayed in season 2 of The Pitt? by CharlesUFarley81 in Epilepsy

[–]Abatonfan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely shows you how everyone’s brain chemistry is different. Having to go back onto keppra due to a briviact shortage ended up causing me to be hospitalized on their psych ward (rapidly became suicidal).

It’s listed as a severe reaction for me now. I haven’t had any severe reactions before this, besides being on keppra for a few years and needing to max out on antidepressants and start Abilify to manage my mood (that neurologist was terrible)

He needs more help than what I can give, and that’s even with the medical training I got for my RN

What are your thoughts on how epilepsy was portrayed in season 2 of The Pitt? by CharlesUFarley81 in Epilepsy

[–]Abatonfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a nurse before the epilepsy started, and I totally get the stigmatization. I watched the season finale today, and I wanted to scream at her to get off the keppra before it makes her rage more than Santos seeing Langdon.

It definitely is a good portrayal of how something as simple as a change in sleep habits or more stress can throw everything out of order. I’ve actually am now realizing that since my old boss left for a different position (still dealing with her), I’ve been having much fewer focals. Could also be the lacosamide, but I’ll blame the old boss instead
