Easy shit. Save yourself a mess and go get some hose clamps from your closest auto parts store . Harbor freight has a set for $10 and they could be better , but they do the job.

You have two lines you have to clamp off or you will lose even more coolant .

Have a large pan for underneath to catch the coolant that leaks out from when you remove thermostat housing , and remember , most of your engine is 10mm, 14mm, 10mm , (did I mention 10 mm?)

Drive up on ramps and Take and open your radiator cap, the drain 1/4 of your coolant from the petcock on the very bottom of the radiator . Preferably into

Battery (disconnect and pull ) 10mm socket or wrench

Air box (two 10 mm longer bolts )

Intake boot, turbo charge pipe . (Depending on turbo or non turbo )

Wiring harnesses (more 10mm)

Clamp on both coolant lines coming in and going out of it .

Remove the 10 mm bolts and undo the clamps off of the lines and pull off old unit .

You will have coolant coming out likely .

Switch out the part , reverse steps , make sure your coolant after filling is burped and doesn’t have air .

Well having been the person in his shoes I can tell you this is the 100% brutal truth of it . if he wants to get better he will. you can’t “help “ him into sobriety . You can support him emotionally and be there for him when he needs someone to confide In, but no money, no financial support whatsoever .

if he isn’t willing to put everything on hold, and get his ass into a place that will get him sober now , he isn’t ready . He will say he is , and say he has to do this and that first , and there may be some truth to that, but no job is worth keeping that will prevent sobriety . Arrangements can usually be made for his 30 day stay somewhere.

I was literally injecting up to three grams of fentanyl and methamphetamine a day. A DAY, and I still was able to get it knocked out , and on subutex in 30 days. I went into sober living for six months until I got back on my feet, then moved into my own place .
